[edit]Created a new article
[edit]Hi Ben, After hours of hesitation and doubt if it is Wikipedia appropriate, I moved my sandbox content and created the "channel expansion theory article". Could you please take a look and let me know what you think? It is just a preliminary version, I will add more content to it. Thanks!M.elvira (talk) 06:51, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for taking a look at the article, Ben! My concern is that it does not show up in Google search as Wikipedia article..is there something wrong with how I created it?M.elvira (talk) 18:00, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
- Got it, thank you!M.elvira (talk) 04:27, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
Hi Ben, I have a question about creating a new article. This week we had a Wikipedia workshop, during which Rob helped me to apply for a approval of my article topic (Channel Expansion Theory), but I haven't heard back yet. He mentioned that I should receive a message stating that it is okay to create this article- or something of that sort. I am not sure what to do next. Can you please help?M.elvira (talk) 00:39, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for the message, Ben. I will continue working on the article in my sandbox then and will let you know when I am ready to move it.M.elvira (talk) 04:08, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
Hi Ben, Per this week's (Week 5) homework, do you have any comments about the sources I've compiled thus far for my topic (Structuration)? They are all books and chapters in books, thus far. Should some of them be articles? Does it matter? Mjscheer (talk) 14:42, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
- Shoot, Ben, where is today's class? Gelardin? Let me know! Thanks! Mjscheer (talk) 15:17, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
Duplicate topic pages
[edit]Hi Ben,
As I brought up in class, there are two pages on Social Information Processing (Theory). Professor Turner mentioned she wanted me to work off of the theory page. My questions to you are: 1) Should the two articles be merged? and 2) If so, how do I do this?
Thanks again for your help!
Jess Js967 (talk) 19:19, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
- Hey Jess, thanks for the reminder. I'll take a look at them tonight and see what's up. In the meantime, since you have a little more background on the topic, take a look and let me know if you can think of any reason why the two pages are separate. In my mind, unless there's a reason for them to be totally separate, its probably appropriate for one to be a sub-section of the other. MyNameWasTaken (talk) 19:45, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit]from the chick who got deleted last semester! Rk384 (talk) 20:01, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks! Hopefully this time you were assigned a pre-existing page to work on! MyNameWasTaken (talk) 20:06, 7 February 2012 (UTC) No problem - I actually chose to leave them there because I thought it was a cool experience and had an awesome time writing about it in my reflection paper for last semester. I was definitely initiated into the Wiki community! Rk384 (talk) 20:12, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

Hello Ben!
[edit]Thanks for your guidance on our project! I had no idea of the behind the scenes rankings, badges, categories, etc. on the Talk pages of my favorite articles. Looking forward to learning more. Bb437 (talk) 04:59, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
- Awesome! Glad you've been exploring! Don't forget to make a user page of some kind! MyNameWasTaken (talk) 05:03, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Cheers
[edit]I hadn't yet posted anything to your talk page… so, here it is. I am wondering where to find the Comm. Org. & Tech. "badge" for our article pages. Any help on that would be appreciated. Thanks, David --DMM78 (talk) 01:06, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- Heya David. Just copy and paste this template: {{User:MyNameWasTaken/OrgCommBox}} onto your user page. MyNameWasTaken (talk) 02:16, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- Gotcha. For that you use this template at the top of the article and talk page: {{ WAP assignment | course = Wikipedia:United States Education Program/Courses/Communication Technology and Organizations (Jeanine Turner) | university = Georgetown University | term = 2012 Q1 | project = }} - MyNameWasTaken (talk) 01:07, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
- Seems that something is missing. I've cut and pasted this information (even added the article title to the end, just in case that was missing; and tried adjusting spacing, to mimic other info box coding), but nothing comes up when I preview the edit changes - as in no box whatsoever.--DMM78 (talk) 15:29, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Yes I intend to add content, I also thought it would be a good idea to resurect the page format so that any one else who wished to contribute could add their content to a correctly formatted page. Also, the main list of episodes was broken by the deletion so restoring the format has repaired that page. Op47 (talk) 20:06, 26 January 2012 (UTC) PS. In future, I would prefer it if you would leave messages on my talk page, thankyou.
- Ok, sorry about that. I was multi-tasking and didn't even think about where I was leaving the message. Thanks for taking the time to reply! MyNameWasTaken (talk) 20:34, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
Copyright notice
[edit]Hello, can you please kindly help to resolve the copyright notice that you put on the article Dvesha (Buddhism)?
I followed the instructions on the notice and created a temporary page and left a note on the talk page: Talk:Dvesha_(Buddhism)
It has been over a day since I made the changes, and there is still no action from any administrators. It looks like they may have a backlog of copyright notices. Thank you.
- Sure. I think its supposed to wait for an administrator or copyright person, but I see no harm in just de-listing it myself. Sorry for the inconvenience, it was my first time running into this kind of issue (copyvio without qualifying for speedy deletion) and just followed the given steps. It seems now like a bit of overkill though. MyNameWasTaken (talk) 20:33, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
- Done! MyNameWasTaken (talk) 20:40, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Corporate Page Help
[edit]Hi Ben,
Hopefully this is the right way to leave you a question! Unrelated to class, I think I mentioned this to you awhile back, I tried to create a Wikipedia page for my company:Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/BroadSoft. As you can see, the article was reviewed and was found to have issues in a possessing a "neutral point of view". Since the article was previously "speedy deleted three times (2 times in 2007, one time in 2008)" by other users, I attempted to create this content strictly by quoting third-party sources - no luck.
So moving forward, my question is what are best methods for creating a corporate wiki page? I can rewrite to avoid the "puffery" terms they suggested and more straight-forward, but any extra insight you might have would be truly appreciated as I also need to create an additional corporate page in the new future.
Thank you!

- Hi Jess, thanks for the message. For starters, I'd take a look at Wikipedia's Conflict of Interest guidelines as well as this page about search engine optimization which both have good explanations of why its difficult to create or edit a page for your own organization. In the end, its strongly recommended for people working for a company to edit it's page (Wikipedia speak for "don't do it, its a bad idea"). Your best bet is to submit it as an article request and let someone else make a determination if its appropriate to be added. I'd be glad to continue chatting about it, either on wiki or in person sometime. I have office hours Thursdays 3-5 at CNDLS, or we can arrange something. MyNameWasTaken (talk) 18:03, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
Thank you Ben! I also have "office hours" at this time :). I have a weekly meeting that usually ends around 3. Can I call you today or next week around that time? Thanks again! Js967 (talk) 18:20, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
- Sure, that'd be fine. I'll shoot you an email through the wiki with my #. MyNameWasTaken (talk) 18:25, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for all your help today Ben. I will keep you updated on the article request. Js967 (talk) 21:24, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

I created a disambig page for Social information processing, which includes 3 articles. However, I could not find a simple way to alter each of the three pages to link to the disambig page. I ended up using this code: {{Two other uses||the information processing that occurs in large-scale and typically networked groups|Social information processing|other uses}} on Social information processing but realized it wouldn't work on the other two pages. Anyways, I'm trying to clean up this mess, but I can't for the life of me find the right template for the other pages. If anyone out there can either find the correct template for me and/or help me clean up the inter-linking between these pages it would be much appreciated. (I also ended up moving Social information processing theory twice, once to Social information processing (Theory) and then again to Social information processing (theory) to fix the capitalization.) MyNameWasTaken (talk) 22:06, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
- For all the templates for the little hatnotes, see Template:About. It's pretty self explanatory from then on. Hope this helped. --andy4789 ★ · (talk? contribs?) 22:57, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
