The Soetardjo Petition (Indonesian: Petisi Soetardjo) was a petition presented to the Volksraad, the semi-legislative body of the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia), which urged the Dutch government to organize a conference, with representatives from both the Indies and the Netherlands, to discuss autonomy and self-governance for the colony within the limits of the Dutch constitutional framework. Introduced by Soetardjo Kartohadikusumo in 1936, the proposal was generally regarded as moderate and vague. Its rejection in 1938 became a symbol of Dutch political intransigence and helped to unify and further radicalize the Indonesian nationalist movement.
