User:Thryduulf/What happened after a desysop
Appearance
As of 25 January 2020: From Wikipedia:Former administrators/reason/for cause: 49 people desysopped by arbcom for cause who are not currently blocked or locked. Of those 49:
- 5 are noted as having failed at a re-RFA (2 of them twice).
- 28 are marked as still editing as of 2019 or 2020
- 2 are now known to be deceased (both died less than 10 months after their desysopping, neither ran again at RFA).
From Wikipedia:List of resysopped users:
- Note this is explicitly marked as incomplete. I looked at every entry noted as following an arbcom decision or re-RFA and a randomly selected subset of those not annotated.
- Users re-admined by arbcom decision: 12 (most recent 2009) [note 1]
- Users re-admined following RFA: 5 [notes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
I suspect the real figures are higher than those given here in all cases.
Notes:
- In the 2006 "Pedophilia userbox wheel war" (see Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Pedophilia userbox wheel war) 5 admins were temporarily desysopped by Jimbo. 3 had their admin status directly restored by the arbitration committee, 2 had to reapply at RFA. Of the latter 2, Carnildo ran for RFA twice in 2006, the first was unsuccessful the second was successful. Karmafist ran once and was unsuccessful but was banned later in 2006 for vandalism and sockpuppetry)
- In Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Cantus vs. Guanaco (2004) Guanaco was required to reapply for adminship at RFA, remaining as an admin "unless his re-application is rejected". The application (also in 2004) was rejected so he was desysopped. Two further RFAs (2004 and 2005) were unsuccessful but a third (in 2006) was successful. His last edit was in December 2018.
- Geni had two unsuccessful RFAs 1 year and 1 year 5 months after being desysopped, his third (1 year and 10 months after being desysopped) was successful
- MzMcBride resigned his admin bit during an April 2009 arbcom case, the committee directed a new RFA was required to regain the tools (they are not included in the figure of 49 people desysopped for cause). A re-RFA immediately after the close of the case was unsuccessful, the second re-RFA 4 months later was successful.
- Everyking was desysopped by motion in 2006 (after three previous arbitration cases). Re-RFAs in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 were unsuccessful. The 5th re-RFA in 2010 was successful.

February 2024 update
[edit]Since 25 February 2021 6 administrators have been desysopped following the conclusion of an arbitration case:
- RexxS March 2021; retired before the case concluded
- Carlossuarez46 April 2021; retired before the case concluded
- Jonathunder February 2022; retired before the case concluded
- Geschichte March 2022; retired before the case concluded but later returned, currently active
- Scottywong July 2023; Blocked themselves immediately before the case concluded
- AlisonW July 2023; currently semi-active
Additionally, two editors were desysopped for cause under Level II procedures:
- Stephen. Following a private case, their admin rights were restored and they are currently active.
- and AthaenaraAthaenara's desysop was confirmed by motion in lieu of a case, she was subsequently blocked but a subsequent community ban proposal narrowly failed to achieve consensus. To my knowledge she has not appealed the block.
No editors desysopped by ArbCom have stood at RFA since Fram in 2019.
