Košice IT Valley ( legal name : Košice IT Valley, z.p.o. ) is a cluster that plays an important role in the development of the IT industry in the Košice region. It consists of three basic pillars. Regional institutions such as the city of Košice , the Košice self-governing region , the city of Prešov and Poprad , educational institutions include the Technical University of Košice , Pavel Jozef Šafárik University and companies such as: GlobalLogic, Deutsche Telekom IT Solutions Slovakia , VSE Innogy, Visma, Siemens and the like. It currently has 53 members.

History

The association was founded in 2007 as a joint initiative of educational institutions, government and leading IT companies. At that time, there were less than 1,000 experts in the IT sector in the region of Eastern Slovakia. In 2012 , the association was transformed into a cluster . In 2015 , the cluster was certified for the " Cluster Management Excellence Label GOLD " as the first in Central Europe and is one of three certified clusters in the field of information and communication technologies. In 2017, the cluster celebrated its 10th anniversary. One of his greatest achievements is the fact that several new IT investors were brought in during this period. In 2019 , the IT sector employed approximately 11,000 people in the region and accounted for approximately 16% of the region's GDP.

Economic benefits

The companies associated in the Košice IT Valley organization provide work for thousands of people in the eastern region of Slovakia. In 2013, they employed a total of more than 6,000 workers. In 2017, this number exceeded 11,000 employees.

Main activities of the cluster

• Motivation of children and youth to study and later work in information technologies and robotics.
• Improving IT quality programs offering universities, high and primary schools, and IT companies.
• Support all forms of cooperation and innovation.
• Preparation and implementation of joint scientific research projects and providing advice in this area.
• Support for internal membership cooperation and support for cluster cooperation with other organizations at national and international level.
• Elaboration of analysis, studies and forecasts of further development of the region and society.

Managing authority

The highest governing body of the Košice IT Valley cluster is its general meeting. Other organs are formed by him, resp. elected:

• The Executive Director is the statutory body of the cluster and manages its activities.
• The Board of Directors is an executive body that directs and manages the activities of the association - 11 members.
• The Supervisory Board is a controlling body that oversees the activities of the association - 3 members.
