Chanel Ryan is an American actress, producer, and former supermodel. She has acted in films such as BASEketball, Hobgoblins 2 and Bad Kids Go to Hell.[1] She modeled for publications such as FHM and Maxim.[2] She was been called the most beautiful model in the world by many magazines. [3]
Career
[edit]Ryan was discovered on a beach in her early teens. During her early career Ryan mainly did modeling with sporadic acting work. In 2011, she went from modeling to acting full time. She used knowledge from producing photo and video shoots as well as short films, and applied it to feature film production. She started producing feature films with Crimson Saints in 2013.[2]
Acting
[edit]Ryan's first movie appearance was in the independent film Waiting for the Rocket in 1994.[4]
When she auditioned for the film George Wallace in 1997, notable director John Frankenheimer offered her the part on the spot and in 1998, she earned the role of one of the Felon Cheerleaders in the the movie BASEketball.[5][6]
Her improv training with The Groundlings and ACME Comedy Theatre[7][8] helped her get a guest starring role opposite Bill Murray in the pilot The Sweet Spot as well as the role of iconic entertainer Andy Williams' girlfriend and co-host on The Andy Williams Easter Special for the BBC in 2002.[9]
In 2009, Ryan played Fantazia in the cult classic follow-up Hobgoblins 2 and in the web series Safety Geeks: SVI, as Nurse Foxy.[10][11]
In 2010, Ryan played the lead role of Caitlin Carnelian in the comedy web series Busted Reality[12] which mocks the world of reality television, and centers around three women determined to be famous by any means necessary.
In 2011, Ryan had a cameo in Hollywood Sex Wars[13], director Paul Sapiano's follow-up to The Boys and Girls Guide To Getting Down.
When Ryan was introduced to Barry Ratcliffe, the casting associate on director Leigh Scott's Dorothy and the Witches of Oz the film had already wrapped. Ratcliffe was impressed, and offered her a role during the last two days of pick-ups.[14]
In 2011 She appeared in the opening sequence of Spike TV's Manswers. [15] and in the Masters Of The House as Katy, which was written in the vein of Faulty Towers. In the same year she also played Bride Of Dracula in the comedy/horror Paranormal Whactivity[16]
In 2012, Ryan appeared in Jonas Akerlund's Small Apartments as Swiss Miss.[17]
A year and a half before the filming of Bad Kids Go to Hell Ryan was approached at a Toronto autograph signing by producer Barry Wernick. She was curiuos when he pointed at her and said loudly "You're Ms. Gleason!" They kept in contact until she did play the part in 2012.[18]
In 2013, Ryan had a cameo as Ashley X in the Rockumentary spoof Skum Rocks , which is narrated by Alice Cooper. Other notable cameos in the film include Kevin Bacon, Matthew Broderick, Fran Drescher, Jon Stewart, Steve-O, Richie Sambora and Bret Michaels.[19]
Ryan was legend Kane Hodder's evil sidekick "Isabel", in the horror film Alice D. for release in 2014.[20] .
Photography Production
[edit]In 2003, while recovering surgery, Ryan was encouraged to produce and model for her own calendar: The CHANEL Swimsuit Calendar. She went on to produce award winning calendars every year from 2004 through 2011. She moved on to producing photo shoots for clients. This included covers and layouts for magazines, campaigns for fashion designers, publicity images for films, models, and actresses as well as image consulting.[21]
Film and video production
[edit]Ryan produced two CHANEL swimsuit calendar behind the scenes videos in 2004 and 2005.
In 2009 She hosted and modeled in Behind The Scenes with Chanel & Lollime Swimwear which was shot at CBS studios.
in 2011 Ryan collaborated with fashion photographer Joey Riveroll to make Get Away, a short film noir. It was based on a Ryan's original [film/video?].[22],
Her recent work as an actress and her earlier years of modeling served her as film school. In April of 2013 Ryan was in pre-production of Crimson Saints which is her first feature film as producer.[23]
Modeling
[edit]Ryan's career started in her early teens when she was approached a beach to model for a swimwear campaign. Her work continued and eventually made her a popular model. Ryan had done hundreds of photo shoots before moving on to producing photo shoots for clients.
Ryan was been voted one of the sexiest women in the world and her images have appeared regularly on covers and layouts of magazines around the world, such as FHM, Maxim and Playboy.[3]
Some notable accomplishments are the Garth Brooks in ... The Life of Chris Gaines album cover, ad campaigns for Harrah's casinos, Yamaha motorcycles with motorcross/supercross champion Jeremy McGrath, Burke William Spas and posters for Miller Beer.[24][25] She has done catwalk work for Frederick's of Hollywood, Adidas and Skechers.
Recent ad campaigns include Anheuser-Busch, Harley-Davidson swimwear, and Kai vodka.
Ryan one of the most popular Benchwarmer Trading Card models with close to 50 collectible trading cards as of 2013.[26]
Ryan appeared in over 30 commercials including Pepsi, Saturn, Volkswagen, Del Taco, Wet 'n' Wild Cosmetics, Expedia.com, Coca-Cola, Visa and Audi’s controversial Green Police.
In October 2003, Ryan appeared on The Howard Stern Show, promoting the release of her first CHANEL Swimsuit Calendar.[27]She is also in the January, 2005 issue of Playboy Magazine (in lingerie) for the Girl Of The Month[28] feature, photographed by Brie Childers.
In popular culture
[edit]Ryan has inspired other artists to create works in her likeness.[29][30]
Dave Nestler published images of Ryan in both his sketchbook and trading card series.[31][32]She also has trading cards published by Bench Warmer that are widely collected.[29]
Lorenzo Sperlonga painted Trial by Fire inspired by a photo from Ryan's 2004 calendar.[33][34]
Noted Playboy graphic artist and body painter Mark Frazier as converted images of Ryan into fantasy art as well as painting her body for photography. [35][36]
Dirk Strangely has done a few different renderings of Ryan. The most popular being Saving Chanel Ryan.[37]
Brian Roll used Ryan on the cover of the graphic comic Spy Vs Spy and with a work called Candace & Chanel in which he included model Candace Kita as well. [38][39]
Australian artist Craigos used Ryan's likeness in a comic called Heaven Sent.[40]
Animal Activist
[edit]An avid animal lover and activist, Ryan has two rescues; a cat named Ruby Tuesday and a Border Collie named Lucky, along with the stream of animals she fosters.
A portion of the proceeds, from her swimsuit calendars and autograph appearances, go to support animal charities each year.
She is an advocate for Best Friends Animal Society [41] and Stray Cat alliance [42] , among others. Ryan is very passionate about protection and preservation of all animals. She normally ends every media interview with a plea for people to spay and neuter their pets, and consider adoption from a local shelter or rescue.[1]
