September 2020[edit]

Information icon Hello. Your recent edit to Larock appears to have added the name of a non-notable entity to a list that normally includes only notable entries. In general, a person, organization or product added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create such an article, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia's notability guideline. Thank you. Apparition11 Complaints/Mistakes 01:07, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.
  • Please stop creating inappropriate lists just to try to include a non-notable person. Even if one of these lists was appropriate, entries would need to have a preexisting article and red link would not be included. Thanks you. Apparition11 Complaints/Mistakes 01:18, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Please consider this your final warning. I found the other edits you made under different IPs and reverted those, too. This is becoming disruptive. Please stop. Apparition11 Complaints/Mistakes 01:23, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What is the difference between the truth and advertising. Thought the truth is the most important factor. I have one IP address in my home but multiple computers. I was using the IP address to begin with. Then Wiki suggested I not do that. I only go on about once a year and forgot old password and user name so signed up for a new one. whitleyhollywood

Whoever did the last undo edit messed up the reference. Someone might want to fix but not me. Whitleyhollywood — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.151.205.135 (talkcontribs)

You should not be editing information about your relatives. - MrOllie (talk) 18:48, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why? Do you know their history better? I had this problem over ten years ago and it was resolved. Why are you starting it again? Not just me saying this. For example Britannia Encyclopedia says it along with Hollywood Citizen, New York Time, Los Angeles Times. I know there is a lot of misinformation out there but it was done by people who did not have the facts or documents. That is why history gets distorted. I am just trying to make Wiki legit. That is why schools do not want students to use it as a source. Not sure who you are or what you historical credentials are. When did you arrive at Wiki? Even the Hollywood Chamber has acknowledge this info. Whitley Hollywood — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.151.205.135 (talkcontribs)

You may bring up inaccuracies on the associated article talk pages. You may not edit articles about your relatives to portray them in the most positivle light possible, that is a problem per WP:COI and WP:NPOV. If anyone 'resolved' this in a way that you believe permits you to do this, they were mistaken. - MrOllie (talk) 19:04, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

At this point I am use reposting things that were there for several years but have given them proper references. I do ot feel it is useful to make wiki viewers have to join memberships or pay to see information. Someone else is also editing and I have tried to leave them alone if they actually go to a reference. I have no idea if they are good or bad. I wish you would look at the references example Historical Societies, City websites, UCLA, etc.. Why are you against these sources. Are you saying that anyone, and I mean anyone can edit a page but a relative? Don't understand the logic as I am not using my website as a reference. These references are creditable. Interesting that Wiki has blacklisted encyclopedias as I would think they are reliable sources. 73.151.205.135 (talk) 00:59, 9 February 2021 (UTC)whitleyhollywood[reply]

Self published books, blog postings, historical societies and so on are not proper references, see WP:RS. UCLA holds some primary sources, but use of primary sourcing is limited as well, and papers are not automatically reliable because UCLA happens to have a copy of them in their library. You're also removing sources that actually do meet the guidelines as you're adding ones that don't, which is a big problem. MrOllie (talk) 01:11, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, 73.151.205.135. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. MrOllie (talk) 18:24, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Could you disclose who you are employed by? I am not employed by anyone and have received no financial gain by being on this website. Just wondering what you true interest is? 73.151.205.135 (talk) 01:02, 9 February 2021 (UTC)whitleyhollywood[reply]

Conflicts as envisioned by Wikipedia policies are not strictly financial in nature. Editing about your family is a conflict even if you don't make money off it. I'm employed by a corporation who has absolutely nothing to do with Hollywood, land development, the film industry, or any other conceivable connection to H.J. Whitley.- MrOllie (talk) 01:16, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

So once again I will ask why are you interested? If you are working for a corporation how do you find time to be on Wiki all day long? Are they instead interested in deleting historical facts. I did not request that people write articles and refer to my web page. I am a member of the Hollywood Chamber. I attend the Academy Awards and talk to the press. If they decide to write an article for their job it is their business not mine. Is there a policy against newspapers interviewing me or putting me on television and radio. You must realize that I know more history about the founding of Hollywood than anyone alive on this subject.Plus do you really think I played apart in all the articles in early 1900, I wasn't even born then.73.151.205.135 (talk) 03:43, 9 February 2021 (UTC)whitleyhollywood[reply]

I'm interested in making sure that any and all articles on Wikipedia follow our content policies. MrOllie (talk) 03:50, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is not a shared IP address. I just have several types of computers and Iphone, etc. that I use. This is my home office not a corporate or shared building. 73.151.205.135 (talk) 01:03, 9 February 2021 (UTC)whitleyhollywood[reply]

That is a boilerplate notice that is added to nearly all warnings on IP talk pages. At some point this IP will be recycled by your internet service provider and will be assigned to someone else - these notices are for that person who may someday see this discussion. - MrOllie (talk) 01:13, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Is it true that anyone but a relative can edit even if the sources used are reliable like Cities, Los Angeles Library, UCLA Special Collections, published books? 73.151.205.135 (talk) 01:06, 9 February 2021 (UTC)whitleyhollywood[reply]

I am curious why MrOllie is free to put on what he wants to solve a conflict he has caused. Where is an impartial person?73.151.205.135 (talk) 03:46, 9 February 2021 (UTC)whitleyhollywood[reply]

Feel free to raise the issue at the relevant noticeboard, which would be Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard. - MrOllie (talk) 03:49, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
