On Friday, January 26, 2018, I interviewed John Townsend, the current owner of Townsend Sign, and the nephew of Kenneth Townsend, the man that erected the Giant Tire in Allen Park. He stated the tire was shipped in pieces via TRUCK in 1966. Kenneth Townsend's obituary in 1982 stated the pieces came by TRUCK, and John stated that the information came from the family.

Several newspaper articles state it came by truck. The first mention of rail was erroneously reported in 1994, and that mis-information has been repeated by others without any verification of the facts.

Michelin admits that they have no record of the shipment, and are only repeating what they heard.
