[edit]Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Video mail. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. McGeddon (talk) 17:49, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

Sources and promotion in article space
[edit]Hello, I'm Ponyo. I noticed that you made an edit to a biography of a living person, Manika (singer), but that you didn’t support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. Wikipedia has a strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. In addition, please ensure that material added to articles is not worded in a promotional tone. Wikipedia policy requires all edits to be neutral in tone. Thank you --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 16:38, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
Please do not add unreferenced or poorly referenced information, especially if controversial, to articles or any other page on Wikipedia about living persons, as you did to Manika (singer). Thank you.--Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 02:49, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
Please stop adding an unsourced birthdate to Manika (singer). Wikipedia policy with regard to biography articles is very strict with reagrd to what material can be added to articles and the types of sources required to verify information. If you continue to add unverified and unsourced information to the article you may be blocked from editing, so please do not restore the unverified date. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 03:26, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
Ponyo, thank you for the clairification. I have the date directly from Manika. How would I properly verify the correction of the birthdate? Thank you in advance for your kind assistance.
- Unfortunately we cannot accept someone's word only with regard to biography material as it is considered original research. Is there any reliable online source that confirms the date? Perhaps an interview with a reliable news outlet? Or does she have an official biography page that can be used to confirm the information? --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 16:09, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
Ponyo, Thank you again. Would her personal website be an acceptable official page to confirm her information?
- An official website is considered a self-published source and can be used to confirm basic information in an article as long as it is not promotional in nature and is not unduly self-serving. Does Manika have an official website which confirms her date of birth? If so I can help you format the reference within the article - it can be tricky for new editors.--Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 23:07, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Continued promotional editing
[edit]I'm sorry but I have again reverted your addition to Manika (singer). I tried to clean it up and just remove the most promotional bits, however it was nearly impossible. The tone is totally inappropriate for inclusion and it appears that you have too much of a conflict of interest to be able to edit the article in the neutral tone required by policy. A good rule of thumb is, if the material sounds like it was pulled off an official/marketing website (which was the case with your prose) then it's likely too promotional to appear here. Could you explain how you are affiliated with the subject of the article? --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 19:55, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
Thank you once again for your guidance. It is really appreciated. I do some occasional internet work for her and her manager. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.9.60.197 (talk) 20:29, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
Manika is a TOP 40 pop artist who is rapidly growing in popularity. Since she toured with One Direction her Facebook has exploded from a hundred thousand followers to over three million. The material on her existing page is a year old and desperately needs to be updated. What I posted is all cited and there are hundreds of articles backing up those claims. Her activities MUST be updated to avoid her wiki page from being embarrassingly outdated. She is a very popular, fast-growing act and things are fluid as she has a Top 40 song breaking now on radio and is releasing her debut album that her four million fans have been waiting for two years now AND she is touring with Aaron Carter this summer (One Direction was LAST SUMMER!!). The label hired me to bring her wiki page current. As I said, everything is factual, nothing is overstated, and all claims have references in major online entertainment articles (hundreds of them) throughout the Internet. This page must be updated or wiki is going to look terribly inaccurate. Manika performs in front of sold out arenas and those fans do wiki her and her page is just too outdated. Please let me update this NOW. I have NO ulterior motive but to bring it current and make it accurate! Thank you!
- Promotional editing is against Wikipedia policy - you absolutely cannot edit the article to add marketing prose to it. As you have a clear conflict of interest with regard to the artist you should use the article talk page to communicate the updates you would like to have made to the article. Cut and paste {{request edit/request}} followed by a list of the desired changes on the article talk page along with a source for verification for each item. A neutral editor will in time review the edit request. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 22:15, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
