Bureau of Meteorology logo

You can't use the Bureau of Meteorology's logo as it's copyright meaning it's uploaded on Wikipedia for use only (IE: Fair-use) in the Bureau of Meteorology article and can't be used on any other article or userpage. The same goes for the cricinfo logo. Bidgee (talk) 05:14, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, Australia in the general history of it, particularly the olden day teams, although not this current team. I can't stand Ponting. Although I think the Indian media is even worse quality than the Australian tabloid press and can't stand them, especially the really bad television commentators they have. Although the Indians who write for Cricinfo, as with all of the Cricinfo staff are tremendous. I do wonder why the Indian media go so soft on their players for being so lazy though. Its a bit like

Measuring the Tamar river - do you do it along the edge or down the middle, um er differences in counts are due usually to the number of deleted edits. Some counters are polite enough to show the diff - in some terms I am a 45,000 edit editor, and in others 46,000 - I have contributed in my time to edits/articles that have been deleted - now over 800 i think. Hardly - some judge wp involvement by FA and GA - all that does is attract ego ridden flies, others by RFA - that attracts drive by shootings from people who dont know any better - and some by the number of people now out (I know more people who have left editing than are current) - and even more some judge by edit counts - some by DYK - I think in the end if you help the poor critters who read it as an online encyc - if they actually find something out that isnt ridden with non english or bad article tags - well thats is it in the end - and if the tamar river has islands - maybe they are not notable - but hey some editors seem strongly driven to identify every bit of named land or object on the planet - whatever - real life is far more important SatuSuro 03:09, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

You gotta do the series of questions - is it really notable? do you have a good mix of RS, are they easily V, and are you thinking of the whole of Tas - would it be better to have the major ones in one art? I would think that the big problem with it is lack of adequeate RS. A question for you this time - how easy would it be for you to shoot a couple of decent photos of the model of the bridge disaster in the Hobart museum? Mine are pretty bad cause they're just frozen frames from my digital video and there were other people standing on the other side of the glass. Its just a thought. I'm about 3,000 kms out of range. Queenstown oval

Is very close to speed delete - the photo is too big and the lack of text would be enough to fall under the guidelines for speedies - you need to reduce the size of the photo and find some refs and add text and also find some categories - for heavens sake! maybe famous but there is not a sign of anything that supports that in the text. hmmm SatuSuro 04:21, 13 January 2009 (UTC) Same with bay of fires - dont be suprised if someone tries speedies - oversized photos (this is an online encyclopedia not a bloody photo gallery ) and lack of links or text or refs - please be more careful SatuSuro 04:36, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

image hint

Hi. Noticed that you had changed the image in the Tasman Bridge article (not the disaster article) and another editor quickly reverted your change. Thought I'd offer a couple of (hopefully helpful) suggestions in case you were wondering why your edit was reverted. Of course I don't actually know what motivated the reverting editor, but I'd guess the following: 1) you didn't explain (in the edit summary) why you changed the image in the first place. Unusual for you because your edit summaries are normally comprehensive. 2) the image you inserted wasn't bad, but it didn't show quite enough detail of the bridge i.e. it needed some cropping and even some brightness/contrast enhancement. Basically - the bridge was just too distant (this is only my opinion of course). Actually - the image you replaced, and which is back there now - is probably a bit too 'close' itself ie it shows the bridge from an unusual angle and under unusual lighting conditions - which doesn't give a good picture of the entire bridge and its geographical context. Generally, with bridge photos - I find the best all-round angle is a 3/4 shot - from one end - which covers the whole bridge whilst still giving some detail of the construction method close-up. Of course, all of this is a matter of style and preference rather than rules/policy of course! GlenDillon 14:30, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

I guess that's the main one because we are doing OK on the progress. Maybe we should rally the troops for another push. Also I went to the nets on Sunday. Got some photos. People come people go

There are very few apart from chuq who actually stay and plod on regardless - they probably have lives outside of wikipedia :) - I was wandering through lonnie and down south (hobart) over christmas on a very quick trip (family wedding) and took a few piccies and caught up with a few friends from 20 +years ago - but it always takes time to get back into the detail - and actually to get back into the articles - another thing again. Wedding only v short time one saturday afternoon (was staying with one of my friends of 25+ years ago from time shared in Queenstown lives in devonport) - the reception was in the badlands 30+ north east of town and we (my wife and i) stayed in a very secluded cottage on the east bank of the tamar closer to bell bay (ie in gunns effluent zone) than lonnie - I spent more time in zeehan this time than any other - first time stay in probably my whole life - being a queenie based person of the past - great drinking with some real wits of zeehan infront of a log fire (december mind you) in a pub - i got hailed on when i tried to get some digital shots of the west coast range - bah SatuSuro 13:10, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Re:Image licensing

Sorry for the delay. I'm just busy ATM and just got home after working out in 40°C heat in the sun, so I'm quite tired ATM. For the images to be used 'James D Photography you can ask them to remove the restrictive copyright by making the images CC-BY (Creative Commons Attribution) or CC-BY-SA (Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike) as then all you would have to do is upload the images using the Flickr upload page on Commons or you could get 'James D Photography to email OTRS (Open-source Ticket Request System) and you can uploaded the images with what is detailed on the OTRS page I've linked. Yep. In the Riverina. I'm really over this heatwave but Sydney (Media) is whinging about 28°C on the Coast and 34°C in te western suburbs (I'll be happy to have 34°C after having to put up with 37°C+)! At 7pm it was still 38°C but has now just dropped to 31°C with the wind shifting from the SW to the NE and an increase (24% increase of humidity which is now sitting on 39% after sitting on 15% most of the day) moisture as well (IE: trough of low pressure was to the NE of me most of the day but has wiggled back overhead). Launceston, Tasmania record

The station the 39°C was recorded is the station we use for the record. Just that temperatures do vary from site to site (Just look at Ti-Tree and the Airport for an example) and the Pumping station has been closed (since 1980) so it's not the best to use. Nice find[1]! Closet fire is to my SE approximately 30km away but is now undercontrol and the Beechworth fire is approximately 140 - 200km to my S/SE but is likely to head near Albury/Wodonga in the next 2 or 3 days if the fire isn't controlled by then and if the weather forecast of winds are correct. If the fire reaches Albury/Wodonga, Wagga and area to the south of Wagga could be in for some issues but it's really up to the weather ATM. Djanga's addition of a red link to York Park is nicely covered by the part of Wikipedia:Red link that says

"Please do create red links to articles you intend to create, technical terms that deserve more treatment than just a dictionary definition, or topics which should obviously have articles."

On the other hand, your revert is addressed by the bit that says

Oh well, I'm just cleaning up all the cricket ground articles in the West Indies, and this was one of the grounds that didn't have an image. Make sure you and your mates go and support the Windies when they visit Jamaica next, probably not until June or July. As I love watching the crowds over there, but they have been very sparse of recent years, especially at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, where the crowds are pathetic. York Park

Hi Aaroncrick. I just reviewed York Park at FAC, and I have serious concerns about the level of sourcing, and how those sources were properly used. Unfortunately, I feel these concerns are severe enough to threaten the article's GA status. I am not a GA regular, so I have created a community reassessment page to ask for other opinions Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/York Park/1. I think that fixing these concerns could take a significant amount of time. I encourage you to address them to the best of your ability; if the article is delisted from GA there is nothing stopping you from renominating it once all of the problems have been fixed. Rubbish - you just have to try harder - for a start - go to your public library and try the local history section - books - not web sources are available :) - also If I live in Western Australia and happen to have over a 1,000 items about tasmania - simply from living there on the west coast in the mid 70's, and about 5 visits since - there is the issue that there are more books written about tasmania than any other part of australia - if you want help to source some sources (sic) just ask :) SatuSuro 07:08, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Not unusual that, the internet encourages such laziness. Following up on the sources thing, I think that The Robins, 1899-1990: A History of the North Launceston Football Club which is available from the club at York Park, and The Diaries of John Helder Wedge, 1824-1835, Annual report / York Park and Inveresk Precinct Authority (refs section, Launceston library, various years), What's happening at Inveresk, Launceston, Tasmania (various editions again at the library) all would be helpful. Incidentally I did a week-long tour of Tasmania with a backpackers company in Dec 2002 - I picked up in Launceston then we went to Mole Creek, Burnie, Stanley/The Nut, Arthur River, Devonport, Cradle Mountain (fair bit of walking there), Queenstown/Strahan, various national park spots in the middle, Hobart, Port Arthur, Freycinet (we walked right over the ridge to Wineglass Bay), St Helens, and back to Launceston. I've missed many small stops we made along the way, but it was a lot of fun. Disposable camera photos here (open with Firefox only, that site has way too many ads...) The following year I returned but just stayed in Launceston for 5 days, among other things visiting Seahorse World and walking from Longford to Perth. My block

Really I can't get over it. Must say I'm trying very hard not to swear over it. Now I want my blocklog cleared (IE:Blanked) but when I challenged the legitimacy of my first block (After the other editor who made more reverts then myself) they said it's not possible but IMO the developers of the Wiki software need to make it possible.
