  • @Qwerfjkl: Fine with whatever is chosen, though it's only a matter of short time before it's created. My goal here is/was to ensure the Wikidata entry is created and tied together to other Wikis (like ga.wikipedia, where I've created a placeholder category as it's redlinked from our own infrastructure as we're now in 2023). Fine either way - Alison talk 01:08, 4 January 2023 (UTC)

January songs
happy new year

Alison, thank you for entering the Wikipedian who died in Ukraine to the list! The colours of my January calendar image are Ukrainian for a reason. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:10, 4 January 2023 (UTC)

today, I point at two singers I whose performance I enjoyed. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:00, 6 January 2023 (UTC)

I'm on vacation, - click on songs! I tell my own stories now, instead of relying on DYK. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:06, 14 January 2023 (UTC)

back from vacation - Melitta Muszely died, RIP --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:03, 2 February 2023 (UTC)

WP:RIP

Hi, for some reason I cannot post to WP:RIP talk. Could you please clarify your last comment there, bearing in mind that the article is intended for contributors with a minimum number of edits to EN-WP. Sad although any death may be, your fulfilment of the request runs a risk of opening floodgates.

It's probably best to reply there rather than here. Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 19:26, 24 January 2023 (UTC)

  • Hi there. Okay - once I catch my breath, will add a rationale there. They're a notable Wikipedian with extensive edits on other wikis + enwp, so there is a justification there. We're not going to add every enwp editor that has a dozen+ edits - that's not the goal. Also, I've tried unprot'ing the page now, so try see if you can edit again. Thanks for bringing it up! - Alison talk 21:38, 24 January 2023 (UTC)

Problem with joining to wikipedia

I cant join to wikipedia , i fulfill all parts but at the end there is written “your ip baned” 185.213.230.171 (talk) 05:42, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

"Without warning"

I have emailed the OS team myself to request the log entries be suppressed (you might, in this context, find this proposal at the Community Wishlist Survey interesting).

But, as for Bastun being blocked "without warning", take note that the introductory material on ANEW specifically warns users: "When reporting a user here, your own behavior will also be scrutinized." Since anyone who goes on to file a report is assumed to have read that and understood WP:BOOMERANG just as much as they would at AN/I, a specific warning is unnecessary. I've blocked both the reporting and reported editors on a couple of previous occasions (not always for the same amount of time); I'm not the only regular reviewing editor there who has. There is a specific argument in {{AN3}} for that. Daniel Case (talk) 23:32, 11 February 2023 (UTC)

  • My takeaway from the above comment is that you're blaming Bastún for his own block, given what you did was within the rules regarding warnings; he reported someone so stuck his neck out. Then you blocked him in error - without warning, regardless of whether it was technically warranted. And still not even an apology for the clearly erroneous block of an established editor. Are admins beyond making errors? And beyond acknowledging them? C'mon -we've all been there - Alison talk 00:08, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

IP block exemption

Hi, I am requesting IP block exemption because several of my edits are controversial (specially those relate to Persecution of Muhajirs), and wikipedia recently got banned in my country which was pretty irritating. I am planning to use VPN to hide my identity because several of my edits contain information which might not please the Pakistani government.

I have read the rules for IP block exemption and fully consent to them. FlameAlpha (talk) 16:39, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

Hello. Please kindly self-revert the inappropriate WP:SNOW closure of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Killing of Brianna Ghey. There are valid arguments for deletion, many of which have been laid out by the DELETE side. Routine crime is not normally covered on Wikipedia, even where such GNG may have been met; thus the discussion deserves to be properly assessed based on the merits of the arguments. Thank you. Concerns about page: Global_Language_Monitor

I just deleted a big chunk of text in the page for Global Language Monitor. I mentioned in the change and in the talk page that it violates the rules for original research. I am pretty sure that the company pays editors to revert changes and to keep adding buzzwords and nonsense to their page to increase their ranking in search engines. I believe that the whole page is a trap to increase the visibility of the company on search engines.

Clearly, this issue is beyond my (non-existing) pay grade. However, I strongly recommend that you or another administrator looks into this page as they are clearly violating multiple Wikipedia rules. MexFin (talk) 13:18, 24 February 2023 (UTC)

You protected this page and the article in May 2010 due to BLP concerns that appear to have mainly affected the article. The article was previously the subject of a libel complaint in 2008. Do you believe continued protection of the talk page is warranted? 67.180.143.89 (talk) 23:39, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

I read the coi page and learned I cannot post personal info, but I have evidence this user has a Conflict of Interest regarding their edits to the page Adrafinil. JoeBo82 (talk) 22:08, 20 May 2023 (UTC)

Why not move it to userspace? I'm sure Alison would be fine with that. Risker (talk) 01:48, 5 September 2023 (UTC)

Hiberno-English

The IP has already crossed the 3RR threshold, just using different "nearby" IPs, and two different editors reverting their blantant misrepresentations of the source material shouldn't be viewed as an "edit-war" but basic policy-protection of the encyclopedia. The IP's b.s. is not quite vandalism, but I have no doubt this person would be indeffed by ANI.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  20:33, 27 September 2023 (UTC)

  • Yeah, fair point. My initial reaction was to just put the brakes on before things got overly heated. It expires later today, but I can unprot if you like, seeing as they got (rightly) rangeblocked - Alison talk 17:52, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

Do not edit based on personal experience or primary sources

Information in Wikipedia needs to be built on reliable secondary sources. We do not use primary sources like death certificates. Editors themselves should not base edits off of personal experience. There are many reasons for this. In the case of deaths the cause of death needs to be publicly recognized to categorize by. So you need a secondary public source showing it was at least spoken of in the public record on that person.John Pack Lambert (talk) 14:40, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
