Numerous renames
Is there a reason you renamed several templates from Template:1867 Canadian federal election to Template:1867 federal election? and applies to multiple other templates. Ebbedlila (talk) 20:28, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- Do you mean I removed the word "Canadian" from them? I don't see any examples of that, but if I did it was a mistake. My moves were an attempt to disambiguate and standardize the names. —Arctic Gnome (talk • contribs) 20:35, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
oh it was my mistake with removal. Meant to ask about moving the 1867 from the end to the front. Ebbedlila (talk) 20:37, 28 June 2023 (UTC) I realized that I had numerous templates created where the 1867 number is at the end. Can you consider creating a blank page to Template:Canadian federal election, 1867, and move the page, and subpages at one time? Ebbedlila (talk) 20:40, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- After all of the articles about Canadian elections were moved to put the year in the front, we ended up with two different formats for the templates. When I do clean-up on the templates, I sometimes move them to match the new naming convention. —Arctic Gnome (talk • contribs) 20:42, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
alright. I guess I'll rename the templates I created. This could take a while. Ebbedlila (talk) 20:45, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- I've been thinking about arranging for a bot to move them all one day. But in the mean time, it doesn't cause any harm to have the templates split between two different formats, so don't spend too much time moving them if there are edits you could do that would be more visible to the end users. —Arctic Gnome (talk • contribs) 20:50, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
I'm back with a question. I had (temporarily) created Template:Canadian federal election, 1867. I wanted to ask if you can rename it to Template:1867 Canadian federal election, with all subpages. I can't move subpages at one time tho, and it would save some effort and time. If it can be done, thank you. Ebbedlila (talk) 13:09, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
- I can't believe that worked; you're a genius! It said it could only move 100 subpages, but that still means most of the work was done for us. One issue to fix, though, is that not all of the templates use Template:CANelec, and are therefore not automatically put into categories. —Arctic Gnome (talk • contribs) 15:57, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
was wondering if I can get the page mover rights. look like it has the move subpages right, and I wish to do it to every other category. Ebbedlila (talk) 22:21, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
- Sure, you've been here long enough to get some extra powers. Make sure you familiarize yourself with Wikipedia:Article titles and discuss moves that might be controvercial. —Arctic Gnome (talk • contribs) 15:03, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
@Ebbedlila: You've probably noticed that you can only move 100 subpages at a time. That means it will miss most talk pages during a move, so you should go back and move those too if you haven't been. I just went back and moved the provincial talk pages that I had left behind. If we don't move them, we'll end up with a bunch of WikiProject banners on the talk pages of redirects. If you use the same technique to move the talk pages, it will automatically skip past talk pages that were already moved in the first pass. —Arctic Gnome (talk • contribs) 15:01, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
- Understood. Ebbedlila (talk) 15:02, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
- I'm glad to see that the two of you are talking because it has seemed like you have been reverting each other. Sometimes, Ebbedlila and Arctic.gnome, the entire Wikipedia Move log consists of page moves the two of you have been doing. And every time I've deleted a broken redirect that is leftover from one of these page moves, I get a message stating that there are 50+ subpages....for each random broken redirect page I've deleted. At this point, we must have tens of thousands of subpage redirects! Are these all necessary? We are talking about thousands and thousands of redirect pages for all of these elections. And if you move all of these subpages, then you have created even more thousands of redirect pages. I hope that you two get on the same page and any unnecessary page moves (and redirect creation) can be avoided. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 06:05, 8 July 2023 (UTC)
@Liz:, just so I understand what you are saying, are you asking whether the redirects leftover are necessary? and that it is preferable to not leave a redirect? Ebbedlila (talk) 12:00, 8 July 2023 (UTC)

Unreferenced
Hi there! I see that you've created many (very many!) templates with election results. None of them are referenced, tho. Do you have a plan to add references to them? -- Mikeblas (talk) 04:22, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
- I wasn't the one who grabbed the data from the original source. I simply moved them to the template space when the same table existed in more than one article. But I agree that they need sources; adding them is somewhere on my to do list. —Arctic Gnome (talk • contribs) 15:57, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
