Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions; however, it appears you may have written a Wikipedia article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – please see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to or change an existing article about yourself, you are welcome to propose the changes by visiting the article's talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was the page I created deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss this with the deleting administrator. Thank you. creffett (talk) 13:19, 19 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

COI

[edit]

Hi, you should note that using an account name of a living person who isn't you can lead to a block. However, its clear that you had no malicious intent, but you've probably realised that writing what appears to be an write about yourself doesn't help you.

You said I am a writer, and I have been supporting Bobby Mill's career throughout the years, therefore I have been involved in searching about his life, history etc. You have an obvious conflict of interest, and you must declare it. If you work directly or indirectly for him in a paid role, or otherwise are acting on his behalf, you are very strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all, and you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Bobbymill. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Bobbymill|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If you are being compensated, please provide the required disclosure. Note that editing with a COI is discouraged, but permitted as long as it is declared. Concealing a COI can lead to a block. Please do not edit further until you respond to this message.

Also read the following regarding writing an article

  • you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to him or his organisation, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what he claims or interviewing him. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls. Most of your text was completely unsourced and the refs you did give were local and school newspapers, not publications showing national notability, and some gossip type web sites, not independent third-party sources.
  • There is no evidence that he meets the notability criteria above. Most of your sources just say something about his 20 acts of kindness which isn't notable, and the page is basically a fan page which gives no indication that he meets our notability criteria for music, even if everything you say is true.
  • you must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic. Your fan page was full of opinions like best known for his love song stories, distinctive energy and stage presence... Generally, what drives Mill so much is his positivity and love for life, people and music., just promo
  • there shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections, and even there they shouldn't be links to YouTube or social media
  • you must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient. I note that all your images have been nominated for deletion.

There's no point restoring the text, it's mainly unsourced chat that should be on FaceBook, not here, and nothing to suggest he meets our notability criteria, so it would just get deleted again.

Before attempting to write an article again, please make sure that the topic meets the notability criteria linked above, and check that you can find independent third party sources. Also read Your first article. You must also reply to the COI request above

Reply from Bobbymill

[edit]

Hello Jimfbleak. Thank you for you reply.

I just wanted to say that, I am a fairly new writer and I did not know that the username could have such a big impact, sorry. Also, I am not paid for this and I have not been employed by Bobby Mill to do this so. The text was purely written by myself and has not been 'stolen' from elsewhere. And Bobby Mill has done a lot for the country when he was younger, so I would not know how to find the sources (official websites etc.), but he definitely deserves a Wikipeda article/biography.

Could you please tell me how to improve the notability, because clearly he is a public figure doing something for the world.

I really hope you can help me make this possible. I thank you in advance.

Regards,

A couple of things:
  • When replying to people on your own talk page, it's usually polite to notify them using {{re|username}}, like so: @Jimfbleak:, so that they know you replied. That notified him that he has been mentioned in this discussion, just remember that for next time.
  • If you aren't Bobby Mill, then as Jimfbleak said, it would be best if you requested a username change (see WP:RENAME), since your username implies that you are someone you are not. It's clear that you aren't intentionally impersonating him, but it still can be confusing.
  • Please review the rules on notability for people (WP:NBIO) and reliability of sources (WP:RS). I understand that you feel that Bobby Mill is important, but he needs to meet the notability standards to merit a Wikipedia page, and the evidence for him meeting those standards should come from reliable sources.

Nothing to add to what Creffett has said. You can't improve his notability, he either meets our criteria or he doesn't. At best it's [[WP:Too soon}} Jimfbleak - talk to me? 05:36, 20 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
