A-League 2006-07 Newsletter I

[edit]
Introduction
The first ever Wikiproject A-League newsletter is here! The 2006-07 A-League season will bring the usual enjoyment and fanaticism that only football/soccer can create. This new season also means a lot of (currently-open) tasks that require completion throughout the course of the next 21 weeks.
Position Ladder
A Position Ladder will be placed on each team page, which will provide an up-to-date visualization of the current A-League standings. However, problems may occur when Position Ladders aren't updated with the new statistics that don't involve matches of the team whose page the Position Ladder resides on. To remedy this, a base Position Ladder will be created, which will be located at {{2006-07 A-League Position Ladder}} (link). Please update this as soon as possible after the match has ended, as this will keep the Wikipedia community informed.

A few notes regarding the base Position Ladder:-

  • Please do not substitute the Position Ladder template on the team pages, as it won’t get automatically updated if you do.
  • Please only update the Position Ladder at the end of a match, and if there is any large dispute about the result, do not add it, but instead wait for an official report by the A-League confirming the result.
  • When updating, make sure to adjust all of the below fields:-
    • The played field – add one (eg. 13→14 etc.)
    • Either the win, loss or draw field, depending on the result for that team.
    • The points field – either add 3 points (win), 1 point (draw) or leave the same (loss)
    • The for and the against section
    • Make sure you repeat this process for both teams – not just the team you follow!
Summary Tables
Each team page will have a Summary Table added to it, which will provide an at-a-glance look at the results of the team throughout the season. We ask that, at every chance you get, you fill in the results of these Summary Tables – it only takes a few seconds, but it will help keep the uninformed "in the loop" – it is an encyclopedia we’re writing, after all.

As with the Position Ladders, a few notes about the Summary Tables:-

  • Please place the winner in bold text (using '''winning team''').
  • With the crowd figures, please only place a comma if the attendance is over 10,000 people (eg. use 8648 instead of 8,468 and 11,482 instead of 11482).

Football infobox

[edit]

Great work with adding the footy infobox to player articles. With the CCM bios, since we have images, you can add them into the football infobox at the top. For example, with John Hutchinson, instead of having the start of the template code as:

{{Infobox football biography | name = John Hutchinson | height = 1.8 m | birth_date = December 29, 1979 | birth_place = Morwell, Australia }}

...you can add...

{{Infobox football biography | image = John Hutchinson.jpg | name = John Hutchinson | height = 1.8 m | birth_date = December 29, 1979 | birth_place = Morwell, Australia }}

...which will produce a centered image, the right size etc. Just replace the image destination with that of the pre-existing image.

John Hutchinson
Personal information
Date of birth December 29, 1979
Place of birth Morwell, Australia
Height 1.80 m (5 ft 11 in)

Keep up the great work! Daniel.Bryant 12:02, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and don't forget to remove the now-unneeded image from the article when you add it to the infobox. Still, great work with the expansion of all the CCM articles (I'm thinking a barnstar is nearly in order :D). Cheers, Daniel.Bryant 09:18, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A-League Newsletter II, 2006

[edit]
WikiProject A-League Newsletter
Issue II – September 2006
Current Player project status
10% complete
A-League News

Project News
  • The Player project has been moved, overhauled and refined. It now is not limited to the 2005-06 player list. However, only 10% of articles are considered "complete", and hopefully we can get this figure to approach 100% by the end of the season.
  • Major changes to the layout of the 2006-07 A-League season page have taken place recently, and an infobox created. A table for attendances, as well as top scorer etc. are now in place. All users are encouraged to update the scores for completed matches as they come in.
  • Recently, Perth Glory F.C. was moved to Perth Glory FC after no objections were raised at the Wikiproject talk page. All links to the old page (including various templates) were changed.
  • The project requires pictures of games and stadiums to help improve articles. Any pictures are much appreciated.
  • The A-League Portal has been set up. Feel free to update the scores, and make sure you check out the selected article and picture each fortnight.
  • The football (soccer) barnstar has recently became the official award of the Wikiproject. Feel free to hand it out to anyone you see making excellent contributions to all things A-League related.

Expansion of WP:A-League

[edit]

Hi Boltonfan22,

Just thought I'd let you know there is currently a proposal to expand WikiProject A-League to include all areas of football/soccer in Australia, including the NSL, A-League, Socceroos, state leagues and more. A more formal proposal page can be found here. Please indicate whether you support the idea or not at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject A-League, and also add your 2c about what the new project should be called. Cheers! – AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 04:18, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Metro Claremont

[edit]

Hi there, I see you have done a bit of work tidying up the Metro Claremont article. I'd like to do the same for other teams in the Southern and Norther Premier League. I don't know a whole long about them, apart from the HUFC/Taroona relegation/promotion battle, so I'll probably be regurgitating their club websites a bit. Are you keen to help out? -- Chuq 09:06, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

Thanks for that paul, that self rightious bastard has no right to do such an atrocity, could i perhaps hire you to make a tanks web page on wiki, all mine so far have been deleted, doesnt matter if ya dont want to =)

A tag has been placed on Hobart Zebras, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable (see the guidelines for notability here). If you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please write {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.

Please read the criteria for speedy deletion (specifically, articles #7) and our general biography criteria. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. MER-C 10:04, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Football AID 12 November – 19 November

[edit]
Thank you for participating in the Football AID vote this week.

Central Coast Mariners FC has been selected as this week's collaboration. Please do help in working to improve it.

[edit]

Hi Boltonfan, The reason I removed the links before was because Football (soccer) in Australia and Football (soccer) in Tasmania are already linked in the template just below that section (the first being the heading of the first template, the second being in the first column of the second template). I intentionally designed the templates so that all related links such as that would be included in the template and therefore wouldn't need the extra links. I could modify the templates if you think the links aren't prominent enough? -- Chuq 09:33, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would recommend changing it on the others - the links are included in the template. -- Chuq 10:16, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Footy Club

[edit]

Hi, I am trying to introduce a club for rugby league supporters that will be more than just a wikiproject and help to encourage rugby league participation and article improvement. I have written down some of my thoughts about what wikileaguies should attempt to do and would be interested if you, like other rugby league supporters, would be willing to be involved on some level. [1], leave signage and thoughts on the talk page if you are interested. Cheers. --Rugby 666 08:17, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vote for Football as the Australian collaboration

[edit]

Hi -- I recently nominated Wikipedia:WikiProject Football (soccer) in Australia/To-do for the Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight.

This WikiProject has been inactive for a long time and with the World Cup coming up, it would be good for football (soccer) articles to be in depth and comprehensive in Australia.

If you would like to support it, click here for the project page to cast your vote

Thanks! Australian Matt (talk) 02:40, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
