Help with Eastbourne article
[edit]I picked out your Wiki name from those who have contributed to this article and wonder whether you could help with the main Eastbourne article, which is current rated as a GA. There are only 116 towns in this category. However, our GA status is currently under threat ... it would be a pity to lose it! There's a problem in the sport section because a lengthy paragraph has been added without a single citation. I don't know where the information came from and it would take me ages to track it down. Could you possible add some citations? Pse leave a message on my Talk Page. Thanks in advance. Mikeo1938 (talk) 23:01, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply on my talk page and the offer of help. I check the article daily because it's on my watchlist. There's not a lot of vandalism and there are several others who keep a watching brief so any stupid things get erased fast. As I say in the section devoted to the recent GA review, there was a tendency (certainly on my part) to feel a bit smug about our GA. It took a great deal of effort to get it in the first place; the prime mover was a editor by the name of Mortimer Cat, but I also did some work. This review by Silk Tork has been a salutary rap over the knuckles and he has spent a lot of time improving the article since his initial review. It was certainly too long and too detailed because text and pictures had been added over the years. It's important to keep it concise; if a section gets too long, a separate article will have to be created, as I did recently for the Blue Plaques. Anyway, it's good to know that you are also taking an interest. Thanks again. Mikeo1938 (talk) 06:09, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Two Footballers
[edit]You recently moved drafts on two English footballers from Draft space to article space. However, they indicate that the two players played in the Football League. In modern times, the Football League sometimes is and sometimes is not a first-tier league in accordance with association football notability guidelines, because the articles didn't indicate whether they were playing at the Football League Championship level. I moved the articles back into draft space and declined them, because otherwise they risked being nominated for Articles for Deletion. If they played at the first-tier level, please update the articles to indicate that clearly with a reliable source. Moving them back to draft space seemed less disruptive than risking having them nominated for deletion, because you can always edit the articles and resubmit them. Robert McClenon (talk) 22:19, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Robert,
- Thank you for reviewing the two articles and also from saving them from deletion. I didn’t expect such a quick response! However, I'm a little confused with the request to provide evidence that these players have played in the first tier. Having read the guidelines, they would, I believe, conform with point 2: "Players who have played, and managers who have managed in a fully professional league, will generally be regarded as notable. See a list of fully professional leagues kept by WikiProject Football." The leagues in which they played were the old Football Division 2, in the case of Simmonds, and Division 3, in the case of Westcott. Both leagues correspond with the modern day Leagues One and Two, which are both listed as fully professional leagues kept by WikiProject Football. I decided to create the two articles based on this knowledge and going by the general practice that players plying their trade at these levels today tend to have an article created for them (if they have made league appearances). I hope you can help, as I'm not entirely sure how to continue, but I'm fairly certain the players are notable. BoroFan89 (talk) 11:23, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

Invite to the African Destubathon
[edit]Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
