Notability of Gillian gibbons

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Gillian gibbons requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 15:26, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I recommend starting the article with the {{inuse}} template at the top of it. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 16:10, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, but I see you can be 'creative, eh?' when you have decided to get an article deleted (ecancerjournals), so I suppose you would just choose another reason to put that tag on if I did that. Buckethed (talk) 16:12, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If it's truly non-notable, it won't last no matter how long you take to edit it. But at least the {{inuse}} tag will give you a better shot at circumventing the speedy deleting admins. I don't actually have the ability to delete anything. Admins make the call. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 16:19, 26 November 2007 (UTC) P.S. Added a welcome template with useful links for your benefit Happy edting!CobaltBlueTony™ talk[reply]

Note in retrospect -> the topic was in fact notable; and was re-created by others, and still exists on Wikipedia. The name of the person involved is now used as a redirect to the topic (hence blue link, not red link, above). Buckethed (talk) 09:38, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

Thank you for the note - this happened nearly two months ago and I had completely forgotten I had done it. Bobo. 12:13, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of 2008 Spain Pilatus PC-6 crash

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article 2008 Spain Pilatus PC-6 crash, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. MilborneOne (talk) 19:13, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Note in retrospect -> this was kept as notable. Buckethed (talk) 09:33, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

October 2008

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia! I am glad to see you are interested in discussing a topic. However, as a general rule, talk pages such as Talk:Qantas are for discussion related to improving the article, not general discussion about the topic. If you have specific questions about certain topics, consider visiting our reference desk and asking them there instead of on article talk pages. Thank you. Bidgee (talk) 09:12, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Note in retrospect -> this was for discussion related to improving the article (discussing whether an incident should be listed on the Qantas page or not). In the end, the incident was included and also has its own page. Buckethed (talk) 09:34, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Qantas Flight 72 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia, because it appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion. If you can indicate how it is different from the previously posted material, place the template {{hangon}} underneath the other template on the article and put a note on the page's discussion page saying why this article should stay. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. If you believe the original discussion was unjustified, please use deletion review instead of continuing to recreate the page. Thank you.

    • Other than 'Assume good faith', which is absent here, my search for Qantas Flight 72 gave no clue of that backup copy above, or of the deletion review - so I recreated now the article has become notable. I have blanked it so it can be deleted. I will post a message on your page to find out how to search for this kind of thing (deletion reviews / userspace backups) in the future - as they don't turn up on the mains search.Buckethed (talk) 20:49, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I used the warning because it contains the correct links, not because I thought you knew better. We are not allowed to recreate deleted pages just because we think they should be recreated. There are exceptions, but even an experienced user such as myself often asks an admin to check on a deleted article before we recreate it. This is especially true of an article deleted by an AFD. Sorry if you felt I was not assuming good faith. - BillCJ (talk) 21:06, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • OK! I will be sure to ask an admin if this crops up again, as I guess they have more advanced search options. My view was that the AfD was over, and it was now a 'blank slate' to recreate the article - but only if it had become notable, which it had due to the new development. Thanks for the advice though :) Buckethed (talk) 22:46, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Note in retrospect -> This article still exists, and was indeed notable. Wikipedia gave me no warning that I was recreating a speedily-deleted page when I made this article. Buckethed (talk) 09:36, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article 2008 Spain Pilatus PC-6 crash has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non Notable Event - Fails WP:NEVENT and WP is not a newspaper

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Oops, found this too late! It survived 5 years though, and was notable according to the Aviation Project guidelines. Interesting / notable things included the fact that it wasn't just a 'light aircraft crash', instead it contained 10-11 skydivers, but when it was at a fair altitude, one of the wings simply snapped off during flight, forcing all the skydivers to bail out one by one; 2 people died - the pilot and one skydiver. Also nearly notable was the fact that it had been used in the 'Live Honda Advert' the day before (this was the next flight after that flight). The Honda Advert was aired in the UK, live, and involved skydivers spelling the letters H O N D A one by one, as they were in freefall. The prelude to this was also part of the advert, so it would have been ridiculously notable if the first 'live' advert of its kind showed live footage of an aircraft breaking up mid-flight! When I have more time I'll recreate this page (under the Aviation guidelines and will have to recapture all the references!) :) Buckethed (talk) 04:00, 19 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
