Hi, welcome to Wikipedia. I saw the article you created, Frank Hastings, on the new pages feature. You should check out the guidelines and Manual of Style for fiction. The article seems to have a lot of room for expansion, but as it stands right now it doesn't bear much information that couldn't be included in the author or novel articles.

In addition, Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy means value judgements about arts and entertainment need to be pruned out of articles as POV. It's encyclopedic to say a novel is a best-seller, or critically acclaimed, if you can back that up with sources such as major critic reviews or sales charts, but no piece of fiction can be judged "the finest" in anything, unless it's a quote attributed to someone else.

Have fun editing Wikipedia, and leave a note on my talk page if you have a question. LeaHazel : talk : contribs 10:07, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:John Falter in his studio.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:John Falter in his studio.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 01:06, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

Cateogory:Anthropology of religion

[edit]

Charles,

As a housekeeping matter, in order to stay within Wikipedia conventions I have moved the category you created "Anthropology of Religion" to "Anthropology of religion" (only the first word should be capitalized). I also created a sub-category "Anthropologists of religion" and re-tagged all entries that were about anthropologists as opposed to topics to this subcategory. I felt that I should inform you about these trivial matters since you created the category and have been tagging entries. All the best.PelleSmith 01:13, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:RobinTunneyWeb.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:RobinTunneyWeb.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 16:58, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Jack Smart at microphone.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Jack Smart at microphone.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 10:05, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:The Fat Man.gif, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Non-free rationale for File:Threshing Crew (1980).jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Threshing Crew (1980).jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:31, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
