[edit]

Sure, what exactly do you want to know? --Marco Craso (talk) 07:40, 24 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Marco Craso: Thanks.
  • Can you explain what you mean by: a diffusion cultural?
  • What is: a shelter for cultural exchanges?
  • teach the public their technical. What does this mean?
That's everything for now, but more questions might come up while I'm editing. --♫CheChe♫ talk 10:36, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
1. I meant something like cultural center for the "diffusion" of the culture to the public. A bad translate from the spanish wikipedia.
2. I used the translator for this one but you don´t have a term for this in the english wikipedia. In spanish this is an albergue and in french that is a auberge de jeunesse. Something like a cheap hostel for yount people.
3. In spanish is "enseñar su técnica" (english does not have a word for this? That is incredible! :D - That is something like teach his "how". Something like the procces and how the artist makes his work. Thank you very much for the effort! --Marco Craso (talk) 10:58, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Marco Craso: Ok, that makes sense. For number 3, would 'techniques' work? Or is it supposed to mean 'how' as in 'artistic process' (i.e. way of being artistic/creative)? --♫CheChe♫ talk 11:04, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Also when you say 'promotes itself', does the center provide these courses? (Or just recommended them?) --♫CheChe♫ talk 11:14, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really know. Maybe is techniques the word. That is just about his work process (not being artistic or creative). For example if the artist is a painter his "técnica" would be how he paints, for teaching children or another people just for educational workshops for schools or old people. --Marco Craso (talk) 11:22, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I've given it a go. Check to make sure I haven't said anything wrong. --♫CheChe♫ talk 11:47, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Countershading image

[edit]

Hi, thanks for the conversion. Could you fix the typo, should say "shadowing"? And I wonder if a sans-serif font wouldn't be better - at the thumbnail size used in the article the text comes across as a bit difficult. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 13:17, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Chiswick Chap: Done, and thanks for the diagrams in the first place! Also, if you don't mind, I'm planning to vectorise several others of your diagrams. Best of luck with the coevolution GA nomination. Thanks again, --♫CheChe♫ talk 13:30, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I've just made 6 diagrams of the clap and fling flight of the thrips as discovered by Torkel Weis-Fogh. I have a powerpoint file of all of them – if you'd like it, just ask ... I would like a way to edit .SVG files easily, doing it with Inkscape is possible but absolutely horrible; and I don't see an obvious way to get from .PPT to .SVG, which seems extraordinary for something so simple. Chiswick Chap (talk) 16:49, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Chiswick Chap: Unfortunately I'm not sure about automated conversions. I personally do all by SVGs by hand (ensures the best quality and smaller file sizes), but I think it should be simple to convert a PDF to SVG. I'm not sure what I would do with a PowerPoint file (except maybe run it through a PDF converter), is it possible to export a PowerPoint file as PDF from PowerPoint (program)? If so, then sending those would be very helpful. —♫CheChe♫ talk 17:12, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Operation Uranus conversions ... went wrong ...

[edit]

Hi, I made 2 images, as before, File:Operation Uranus Deception Actual Soviet Dispositions 18 Nov 1942.png and File:Operation Uranus Deception German View 18 Nov 1942.png, and they're in use now. I tried to make the matching .SVG images via PDF and thought I'd succeeded, but the image components seem to have unglued themselves so the images are unusable. (Glum face). We can get them deleted, or better, you might like to overwrite them. They're File:Operation Uranus Deception Actual Soviet Dispositions 18 Nov 1942.svg and File:Operation Uranus Deception German View 18 Nov 1942.svg. Your not-terribly-graphical correspondent, Chiswick Chap (talk) 16:03, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Chiswick Chap: Haha, no problem. I'm always happy to help. I've gone ahead and redrawn them by hand (I can rarely get automated conversion to work myself!), so let me know if there are any inaccuracies. Happy editing! —♫CheChe♫ talk 17:44, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There were five total typos in File:Wasps are Paraphyletic.svg, one that Chiswick Chap spotted and four that I did, including a glaring one "Jew Wasps" instead of "Jewel Wasps". When vectorizing scientific images, or really any that include potentially unfamiliar terminology, it is important to be careful when transcribing text. We have to rely on editors in good standing doing a lot of checking of their own work because we can't review every change in detail. Please double check these sort of things in the future. Your work in vectorizing images is appreciated but attention to detail is critical. —DIYeditor (talk) 23:06, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

File:Whales are Paraphyletic.svg also had one typo. —DIYeditor (talk) 23:21, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@DIYeditor: Goodness that's humbling, thanks for pointing it out. I usually check for spellings once or twice, but I'm not always the best at that sort of thing. I'll make sure to try harder in the future. – Sincere apologies, ♫CheChe♫ talk 17:31, 24 March 2017 (UTC).[reply]
No problem, mistakes happen. Once the images are in vector format it is easy enough to edit them. Ideally other editors could check the conversions. It's valuable to have diagrams in svg. —DIYeditor (talk) 02:15, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Very good. The centaur is missing with correct .svg (white and dark squares) here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Chess_diagram | I tried with .png but .svg is the correct format.

Hello CheChe, thanks for the correction. Still, I think the sentence sounds awkward when starting in singular ("A person") and then going to plural ("they..."). Lehayim (talk) 07:04, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Lehayim: Singular they has been around at least since Shakespeare (and I've been using it my whole life). Still, people do often seem uncomfortable with it for some reason. If it makes you feel better, he or she is also acceptable. (Though going round changing all theys to he or shes is crusading if you don't find consensus first). Rollback granted

[edit]

Hi CheChe. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! TonyBallioni (talk) 16:09, 3 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Pending changes reviewer granted

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.

Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

Warning vandals

[edit]

Hello. Regarding the anti-vandal work you've been doing: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate. They can also be used to give stronger warnings to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Furthermore, users can be far quickly and easily reported to WP:AIV, and make administrator's work in blocking them much simpler, as they can clearly see disregarded warnings relating to recent edits. Thank you. –72 (talk) 14:27, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Pending Changes

[edit]

Hi CheChe, I see that you have recently been granted the Pending Changes Reviewer right. Please ensure that you do not accept edits that introduce unsourced material, especially to BLPs, as you did here. It is precisely these type of edits I protected the article to prevent. Thank you,--Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 18:55, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Ponyo: Thank you for reviewing my review. However, the reviewing criteria at Wikipedia:Reviewing_pending_changes do not require the edit to be cited. In fact, this section explicitly states that the edits do not need to comply with verifiability. The protection level is intended to prevent vandalism, not false or unsourced edits. Of course, it is also intended to ensure that the BLP policy is upheld. In regard to this specific edit (and this is presumably where I am ignorant of something), there doesn't seem to be anything libellous / attacking about it. If it is indeed false then it should be corrected in the usual manner (as you already have done). Regardless, thanks again for your vigilance! –♫CheChe♫ talk 19:21, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
CheChe, I am very aware of the requirement for approving or disallowing pending changes. Edits that add unsourced personal information to articles are contrary to BLP (in this specific case, WP:DOB) and should not be accepted; this is the first point of of the General Criteria of the reviewing process ("you should not accept the new revision if in analyzing the diff you find...It conflicts with the biographies of living persons policy"). Content does not need to be libelous to be contested, per policy "We must get the article right. Be very firm about the use of high-quality sources. All quotations and any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be supported by an inline citation to a reliable, published source. Contentious material about living persons (or, in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion". The reviewing criteria also states "reviewers should take special consideration of the reason given for protection, and attempt to uphold it.". I protected the article to prevent the "Addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content: + persistent addition of unsourced personal info in a BLP", so any edits that introduce such material should not be accepted. When admins set pending changes on BLPs specifically to prevent the addition of unsourced content, it is very important that Reviewers abide by the requirement for reliable sourcing. --Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 19:38, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Ponyo: Thank you very much for the clarification. It has become clear that I need to study some of the finer details of the BLP policy much more carefully (owing to its importance), before reviewing any more pending changes that fall under BLP. –♫CheChe♫ talk 19:47, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, CheChe. Protecting our BLP subjects is one of the most important "jobs" here. --Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 19:57, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Group testing. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Group testing), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Please participate to the talk pages consultation

[edit]

Hello

Our team at the Wikimedia Foundation is working on a project to improve the ease-of-use and productivity of wiki talk pages. As a Teahouse host, I can imagine you’ve run into challenges explaining talk pages to first-time participants.

We want all contributors to be able to talk to each other on the wikis – to ask questions, to resolve differences, to organize projects and to make decisions. Communication is essential for the depth and quality of our content, and the health of our communities. We're currently leading a global consultation on how to improve talk pages, and we're looking for people that can report on their experiences using (or helping other people to use) wiki talk pages. We'd like to invite you to participate in the consultation, and invite new users to join too.

We thank you in advance for your participation and your help.

Structured Data - blogs posted in Wikimedia Space

[edit]

There are two separate blog entries for Structured Data on Commons posted to Wikimedia Space that are of interest:

  • Working with Structured Data on Commons: A Status Report, by Lucas Werkmeister, discusses some ways that editors can work with structured data. Topics include tools that have been written or modified for structured data, in addition to future plans for tools and querying services.
  • Structured Data on Commons - A Blog Series, written by me, is a five-part posting that covers the basics of the software and features that were built to make structured data happen. The series is meant to be friendly to those who may have some knowledge of Commons, but may not know much about the structured data project.
I hope these are informative and useful, comments and questions are welcome. All the blogs offer a comment feature, and you can log in with your Wikimedia account using oAuth. I look forward to seeing some posts over there. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 21:33, 23 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Jo-Jo Eumerus: sorry about that. It turns out I've been a lot busier than I thought I would be. I will be too busy for this in the next few weeks as well. I would suggest it's best to find a GA reviewer for this article in the normal way – though if it still hasn't been reviewed later on I'll have a crack at it. Best of luck with your nomination –♫CheChe♫ talk 17:25, 2 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
