You don't need to create a new article to edit Wikipedia; in fact, writing an all-new article is among the most difficult tasks. It's far easier to start out and gain some experience by improving existing articles. If you still want to start by creating a new page, I'd suggest you take a look at WP:Your first article, make sure that your chosen topic is notable and that you have reliable sources, and use the Article Wizard to create a draft and submit it for a review by an experienced editor.
