Thornbury Town FC[edit]

Lol ill be dead by the time that happens

Thornbury Town FC[edit]

Oh right so if Thornbury got to tier 10 and went back down their article could stay.

Thornbury Town FC[edit]

To some extent Yes but if you delete the article then delete the others aswell. Cheers.

Thornbury Town FC[edit]

Fair enough so how come teams from the same lague as thornbury have articles And also. Cup eligibility Being members of a league at a particular level also affects eligibility for Cup, or single-elimination, competitions.

FA Cup: All levels (in theory; in practice restricted to Levels 1-11) Football League Cup: Levels 1-4 Football League Trophy: Levels 3-4 FA Trophy: Levels 5-8 Conference League Cup: Levels 5-6 FA Vase: Levels 9-11 FA National League System Cup: Level 11 (contested by representative teams from each league) Beyond Level 11 the pyramid becomes regional and the cups become accordingly regional. Further down the pyramid is split on a county basis, counties having their own cups accordingly

Thornbury Town FC[edit]

Ok so what your saying any team below level 10 are too bad to make an articale on lol. Why level 10 is there a big step up from 11 to 10 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Leeds5359 (talkcontribs) 09:50, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thornbury Town FC[edit]

Why are you wanting to delete this article just want to know, they do exist clubs below thornbury have articles.

Crabble Stadium[edit]

Hi. The "Crabble Athletic Ground" is in The history of non-league football grounds by K Miller, page 98. things to add :

  • The new grandstand was officially opened on August 25th 1951.
  • In 1952, the Supporters' Association finance (around 3000£) to cover terracing on the bank.
  • The Chelsea team included Alan Harris and Terry Venables. (floodflight first game)

Everything else (and more) is in the WP article. Yours in sports! (excuse my very bad English) Clio64B (talk) 20:44, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Thenewsaints.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Thenewsaints.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:11, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thanks for adding this image to BCFC, gives me a good reason to remove this season's third kit which is completely boring. I've added it to Alec McClure, seeing as it's him wearing the shirt. Was wondering where you got 'circa 1911' from, though. According to Historical Kits we adopted that shirt c.1913, according to Tony Matthews Encyclopedia of BCFC it was 1914-15, and Keeping Right On the official history, which isn't all that reliable, carries the same picture captioned "... dated back to 1919/20 and is worn here by Alex McClure who led the club to the Second Division championship that season" (which he didn't, because it was the following season). cheers, Struway2 (talk) 10:02, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm. The shirt may well have been adopted that early, but McClure didn't join till 1912 (which I suppose is circa 1911). I'm sure the image is still PD-US though, whenever it was actually taken. McClure left in 1923 by which time he was 31, and the bloke in the picture doesn't look 31 to me. Would that be a sound argument to use at an Image for Deletion, do you suppose? cheers, Struway2 (talk) 10:24, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adam Miller[edit]

Hey Chris, my usual source indicates he was only an Academy player. Google "pride of anglia "Adam Miller" " and take the top hit, that's all I have right now on him. Hope that helps. The Rambling Man (talk) 08:59, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Penalties[edit]

You asked for a citation about the new idea for penalties kicks. I have worked within the Swedish football federation and we talked about this to Mr Balter last fall. It has been reported, however my Google searches today have turned up nothing. I will speak to our contact at UEFA about this next week. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.217.73.154 (talk) 19:07, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hess/Bates quote[edit]

Page 81. The full quote from the programme notes reads: "What a pleasure it was to entertain Gillingham. Of course it was heightened by the result, but they were worthy competitors. Five goals down, two minutes to go and they still played as if their life depended on it and with style. Good attacking football played in good spirit from both sets of supporters and both teams. Special mention must be made of Andy Hessenthaler, who never stopped running for them. A fair-haired kid and clearly a product of the Gillingham youth policy, I was going to sign him until further enquries revealed that he was 35 years old!" Alf Bentley[edit]

Hi there ChrisTheDude. Just to let you know that I have just created Alf Bentley, which has turned one of your redlinks to blue in List of Gillingham F.C. players with less than 50 appearances. However it is very obvious that they are two different footballers, so disambiguation will be required. If and when you create an article for "your" Alf Bentley, give us a shout and I'll help out with the necessary. All the best. --Jameboy (talk) 15:15, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I've also created Alfred Bentley as a disambiguation page. --Jameboy (talk) 15:27, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent. I've now moved "my" Alf Bentley to Alf Bentley (footballer born 1887). Although he's probably more notable (having played most of his career in the top flight), I don't really see him as being the "primary topic" as such, given that a) he played a very long time ago b) there seems to be very little information on him, and c) I'm pretty sure the vast majority of Baggies fans wouldn't have heard of him anyway. --Jameboy (talk) 22:00, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Newspaper References[edit]

Hey Chris, I have a reference in a newspaper I'd like to add to an article, but I can't find the article on the paper's website. Do you know if there is a template for referencing newspaper articles? Thanks for your help --Jimbo[online] 17:39, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Image:EfeSodje.jpg[edit]

A tag has been placed on Image:EfeSodje.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [4], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:EfeSodje.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Polly (Parrot) 15:10, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have reviewed this article and placed it on hold. The issues I have brought up in the review are fairly minor, as the article is very close to being ready for GA status. I have placed the article on my watchlist, so I will check back when the concerns have been addressed. GaryColemanFan (talk) 00:31, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It would appear that what I predicted on 29th May last year has now happened: the version of the Hess article that Dover lifted for their site almost without editing as the biography of their new manager is being cited as evidence of the same claims here. I suppose the fact that they have made some changes means that they can be said to be verifying that which they did not change. It does make me wonder what I might have got away with claiming though. New Project[edit]

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 04:43, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:BarwellFC.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:BarwellFC.gif. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Dover/Bostock[edit]

You seem to have your ear to the Dover ground. There is a lot of nonsense going on with some unregistered editors and the John Bostock article. Have Dover signed/loaned this guy at all, or is that, like other large parts of the article, fabrication? I think I sense the hands of the mates of a 16 year old winding him up. the referees a wanker[edit]

It is obviously not the most charming of phrases, however it is used commonly, but it is proving a little hard to cite. Hmmm what to do? I don't think anyone can dispute that it is used, even in Japan the team Urawa Reds use the chant.

Should it not be included due to minimal citations? Should it be included because it is not disputed? Should it remain and have a "requires citations" tag? or should it not be included just because it is crude?

Sennen goroshi (talk) 15:05, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So, do you think that just because it was a featured article, I should not add to it, without meeting all the criteria? There are many articles with citations required. I really am not trying to be an arse about it, I wouldn't be saying this if it were a fact that is likely to be disputed - however both of us realise that the chant is used, its hard to cite but it's use is a fact. I didn't see people requiring a citation for it being included in the wanker article, so I don't see why it should be required here.Sennen goroshi (talk) 15:16, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

bastard/wanker its all pretty much the same. I really was in two minds over the article, but it did seem notable and was just annoying me with its lack of available citations. I really don't know if an undisputed statement can be included without citations. But thanks for fixing it.Sennen goroshi (talk) 15:26, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:BasingstokeLeague.jpg}[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:BasingstokeLeague.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. BCFC 2007-08[edit]

Hi. Don't know why I moved the 06-07 one to the proper capitalisation but not this one. I've reworded the lead. It appears such errors are surprisingly pervasive. Both Arsenal and West Ham use the future tense, Derby and Man City are in both the Football League and the Prem, and Chelsea have spent 15 consecutive seasons in the Barclays Premier League (apart from being 16 seasons, it wasn't even Barclaycard, let alone Barclays, till 2001 :-) Perhaps another time, though, you might consider being kinder towards an editor who clearly doesn't find spelling easy; it may be an "obvious mis-spelling" to you and me, but if it was obvious to the editor they wouldn't have made the mistake. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 19:54, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:MilesHunt.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:19, 4 June 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 20:19, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gillingham seasons line graph[edit]

Would you mind giving me a crash course on how to include the seasons in the relevant graph axis. I'm making two columns in Excel: the first is Year (that is, the year in which a season ended); the second is Finishing position. When I highlight both columns and create the graph, it puts the contents of both columns into the lines on the graph, instead of just the finishing position. As a quick fix, I highlighted only the Finishing position column, which, instead of listing the seasons on the axis, lists 1 to 54 (one for each line in the Excel columns). Here's my current effort. How did you do Gillingham's? - Dudesleeper / Talk 01:11, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and I haven't based the positions on the other 91 teams (or whatever the relevant total of League members is for each season); just their placing from the top of the League pyramid. - Dudesleeper / Talk 01:15, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think we might have different versions of Excel, but I worked it out from your directions and it worked. Thanks for your help. - Dudesleeper / Talk 18:29, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
