Hello CloudNine/Archive 1, welcome to Wikipedia!

I noticed nobody had said hi yet... Hi!

Arthur Erdélyi[edit]

May I thank you for your excellent article. I have a project going to write articles on major jewish scientists of the 20th century and have created dozens of stubs. It would take me forever to expand them all into articles of such quality! - Newport 12:49, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks :) I'm willing to help write more articles around that subject if need be (general biographies on mathematicians are especially short. CloudNine 07:49, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

James Bond[edit]

Hi, I see you have been getting involved with reviewing some good article nominees - this is excellent, given that we have something of a backlog at the moment! Just a heads up - one of the good article criteria is that all images need an appropriate copyright tag (and, if fair use is being claimed, this includes a proper fair use rationale). It's not enough to be illustrated, it's important that the illustrations have correct copyright information. My guess is you forgot to check this for James Bond, since several images had inappropriate or deprecated copyright tags (often lacking source information) and many claimed as fair use lacked article-specific fair use rationales (these need to be specific to the individual article, because "fair use" depends entirely on context, unlike PD or GFDL claims). Don't kick yourself too badly for it (a lot of reviewers seem either to forget to or not bother), and already some of the tags have been updated. It's just something that's worth looking out for - incorrect copyright tags are an automatic fail for either "good" or "featured" article status. (The good side of this is that it can save time reviewing if you check the image copyright statuses first!) TheGrappler 15:03, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

  • Ok, I don't think I quite realised that :) I'll keep that in mind when I review in future. CloudNine 16:22, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Flora nomination change?[edit]

I have tagged Flora (plants) as a stub, as a first step to change it to a WP:COTW nomination. I personally believe there should be a complete re-write of the article. Do you all agree to make the change? --Francisco Valverde 08:01, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Hussein 'Abd al-Majid[edit]

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from Hussein 'Abd al-Majid, which you proposed for deletion, because its deletion has previously been contested or viewed as controversial. Proposed deletion is not for controversial deletions. For this reason, it is best not to propose deletion of articles that have previously been de-{{prod}}ed, even by the article creator, or which have previously been listed on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If you still feel the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article, but feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! Please give me feedback, again :)[edit]

I know you have given me a feedback on peer review and I appreciate it very much. So I have added some more information in the introducion part and "Naming Convention" part. Pixies (band)[edit]

I reverted your edit to the Legacy section of this article. There is no reason the information you deleted does not belong in the article. PT (s-s-s-s) 19:56, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

  • Not to speak for CloudNine, but there is plenty of reason. The article is about the Pixies, not the person you mention. Some people are trying to make this a Featured Article, which do not contain trivia about things distantly connected to the article subject. –Outriggr § 05:04, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
    • Then take out all the stuff about Weezer, U2, etc., as well. PT (s-s-s-s) 20:29, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
      • Asked on the talk page, but just in case you missed it.... so you're saying as long as there is a verifiable source, you are fine with the passage? PT (s-s-s-s) 22:53, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
        • If there's a direct quote and it's well-written into the main Legacy passage (rather than right at the end), I'd be fine with that CloudNine 06:46, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
          • That seems like a fair compromise! I have re-included the passage in a way that allows for expansion (i.e. mention of other acts that names the band as an influence), and with the reccomended citations. PT (s-s-s-s) 00:07, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
            • After all of that, and us working it all out, somebody removed it erroneously as spam. I have put it back in, will you help me keep watch? PT (s-s-s-s) 00:02, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Is this Brodie guy notable to anyone outside of Phoenix? I have seen local performers who sound a bit like David Byrne, but I'm not about to add them to the David Byrne article... -- Xinit 01:47, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

James Robert Baker[edit]

Hi CloudNine, and thank you for your input. I have made the various formatting changes you suggested, and expanded the lead to the article. However, the InfoBox is *completely* filled in. I have a magnum opus section entered, but someone has deleted it--there is a discussion page about the usage of that in the infobox, and whether it is appropriate. Anyway, could you have another look at the article? Thanks again. Jeffpw 17:01, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

  • OK, I have added some book cover pics. I don't think there is a fair use problem, since I do discuss the books in the article. You're right--it does make the article more visually interesting. About the pic of Baker himself--I thought it was fair use, since it is on the back cover of his books, and there is a "book cover" rationale listed. Am I misunderstanding, or being too lax in my interpretation of book cover? Your help is sincerely appreciated. I have worked for weeks on this article, with almost no feedback at all.Jeffpw 17:54, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Thank you *so much*, CloudNine, for the GA status on this article!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You've made all of the effort worthwhile. You have no idea how hard I have been working on this. By the way, the literary executor of Baker's estate has read the article, and suggested I write his bio--that thrilled me beyond belief, since I am such a big fan of James Robert baker. Anyway, I am looking at the Fair Use rationales now, and will have that fixed today. Thank you once again! Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you....Jeffpw 19:38, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
    • No problem :) CloudNine 19:40, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
  • I wanted to let you know I reverted the edit you made to the controversy section (the quotation marks), as well as returning the order to the way it was before. Here's my reason: To put the controversy section at the end, the reader is left to wonder why Baker killed himself--the article jumps right from publication of his first book to his death. It just didn't seem to make sense to me that way. As to the quotation marks, I did read about them in the WP style section, and tried them out, but didn't like the way they looked at all. They give the section an extremely casual look, when something serious is being discussed. Please feel free to discuss this on the FAC page, and if others agree with you, it can be changed. For now, though, I wopuld prefer to leave it the way it is. Thanks. Jeffpw 19:42, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Global justice GA[edit]

Hi - thanks for your review of Global justice, and point taken about citation: I'll try and get them sorted over this week. Cheers, Sam Clark 09:18, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Non-WP related question - are you the same CloudNine that used to be on the Blitzcoder forums? Alexj2002 21:52, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Yep, the very one :) I definitely recall a Alexj2002 on the forums as well :) Do you know any other former Blitzcoders on WP? CloudNine 22:01, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
That's pretty cool, I just saw your name on a talk page, and the description on the user page seemed to fit. Don't know of any others that have made it over here, but then I haven't really looked! Alexj2002 21:54, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Your edits to 12th Archeological Conference[edit]

I noticed that you removed information from 12th Archeological Conference article and replaced it with a stub. Was this because the text was not wikified? Wouldn't it be better to leave the unwikified information and instead add {{wikify}} (as before) and have WP:WWF wikify the article, so the information can be kept? I haven't reverted the edit, as you're a more experienced editor than me and I may be completely wrong :-). Could you explain to me why you did it? Thanks, 0L1 Talk Contribs 15:47 4 11 2006 (UTC)

It was nonsensical in parts, veered wildly off-topic and was in general completely unreadable. For example:

What can one think when even today, after many centuries they are "beating musicians" but this time not the skomorokhy, but the unfortunate blind Ukrainian bandurists. What can one think when they destroy their simple instruments? This is not a rhetorical formula: two years ago one of the bandurists came to me in tears. What had happened?

I felt a better path to take would be to rewrite the article. CloudNine 17:22, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Xbox 360 Good Article (On Hold)[edit]

Rational was added for all images, and sections needing referances have done so.123wiki123 05:14, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

I don't feel this article is ready for good article status just yet, alot of unreferenced material still and some biased information lurking.
Care to tag[citation needed] anything that needs citation?

Nice Work[edit]

A Barnstar!
The Original Barnstar

I am a ultra fan of the Pixies, Frank Black, and all related. I noticed you have extensively improved these articles and have dedicated much time to them. This may not mean anything to you, and you can delete this barnstar if you want, but excellent work! Awesome to find a hard-working fan. Nice taste in music BTW (I play bass too). Thank you very much for the Barnstar, Cloudnine. Your help in reviewing the article was instrumental in having it pass. I'm working a bit on a few articles now, but nothing special. Jeffpw 18:45, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Mark Twain news item[edit]

Hi. I noticed you had done a number of edits recently on Mark Twain. In the course of gathering sources for an entirely unrelated project, I stumbled across an article in the February 19, 1991 editions of the San Francisco Chronicle, headlined, "'Huck Finn' Manuscript Discovered." According to the piece, Clemens scholars were astonished at the manuscript having turned up in a San Francisco attic, since even Twain himself was convinced it had been destroyed.

I thought about summarizing and referencing it in a "Trivia" section, but decided against interjecting myself in that manner in what appears to be an ongoing active, albeit informal, collaboration. If you are interested in receiving it for use in the Twain article, or know someone else who might be, I would be happy to transmit the full text via e-mail. (I retrieved it from a subscription database, and it is under copyright, so I cannot post it online). -- J-M Jgilhousen 01:28, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
