Deletion review for Emily Schooley

Faramarz Aslani

Hi. I think this page has been deleted by error as he is a notable singer song-writer. I also left a message last week for the admin who deleted the page. Could you please restore Faramarz Aslani.

Thanks. Siba (talk) 15:56, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Oh, that wasn't a good A7. That Allmusic covers him is sufficient to get around an A7, though it will not be sufficient at Articles for Deletion. The admin in question hasn't responded in a week, or edited in a fortnight. I don't make a habit of overturning other admin's actions, but making you go to Deletion Review on this one would be a waste of time. Restored. Courcelles 09:56, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, appreciated. Yes, Allmusic covers him, but I'll try to improve the article. Siba (talk) 10:24, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Teramo jerk

Ciao... I tried to ask for help in avoiding this user to keep reverting Teramo article to his horrendous version (he has long overcame the 3RR limit). I notified the case at [[1]] but so far no one intervened. Can you help? Ciao and thanks in advance. --'''Attilios''' (talk) 09:45, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

I've warned him formally. Both of you have made three reverts in the last 24 hours, so more of the same will have to earn both of you blocks. I recommend you disengage from the situation for now. (Further, new reports on ANEW go to the bottom. This may be why a response was somewhat slow in forthcoming.) Courcelles 09:52, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

restoring protection of Croatian

Hey,

If User:Georgewilliamherbert doesn't do it (and he hasn't been active for a couple days), could you restore your semi-protection of Croatian language? GWH fully protected it for 3d, but that's now expired, and an anon. IP has already falsified quotations. I hate to do it myself, as I'm sure the POV warriors will scream that I'm committing genocide or something, but it's going to be impossible to keep it under control with the 1RR restriction otherwise. — kwami (talk) 13:35, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Done. Another feature request for the next version of MediaWiki, I guess, a way to restore old levels of protection automatically after a temporary period of higher protection. Courcelles 14:48, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
Yes, definitely a good feature to request. Are you planning on doing so? I haven't made one before, but would for this. — kwami (talk) 15:04, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
Seems like this is an old thought, bugzilla:12656 was closed "RESOLVED WONTFIX". Too bad, it would be rather useful. Courcelles 11:12, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

Copyright infringement--query

Hey Courcelles. I was wondering about content copied directly from government websites (non-US, as I have already read Works by the United States Federal Government over at WP:C)--would that still be copyright infringement? For instance, as I have stumbled across them today, content from Australian, British and Canadian government websites (sometimes secondary). Thanks! :-) ~dee(talk?) 16:29, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

IWorks of the British Government are covered by Crown Copyright, so without permission from Her Majesty they're either fair use or impermissible here for 50 years after creation. Being Commonwealth Realms, Canadian and Australian provisions are broadly similar. Courcelles 16:33, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
You may find Category:Public domain copyright templates by national government and Wikipedia:Non-U.S. copyrights helpful, but the topic is a complex one. (talk) 16:43, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
As usual, efficient, quick and perfect. Merci beaucoup, Courcelles. And thank you Fæ--both pages will be very useful, especially templates! ~dee(talk?) 17:10, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
No problem. If you should find a way to get Her Majesty to allow us to use stuff, do let me know ;) Courcelles 17:12, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
psht, I believe I'd have better luck teaching pigs to fly. ;-p ~dee(talk?) 19:40, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

I have replied at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/1994 College Baseball All-America Team/archive1, but I am not sure what you mean by fragment on the first issue.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 17:07, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

Replied over there. It wasn't a complete sentence without saying where they were still active. Courcelles 17:08, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

  • "The album's fourth single, "And I" achieved little chart success in the United States." 27th rank is "little" success? This is too POV-ish for my taste. Later on, something that never got over 30 is a "moderate success".  Done
  • ""—" denotes a title that did not chart, or was not released in that territory." I'll pass along the information that New Zealand has been demoted to a "territory"  Done

Other little tweaks on issues you had have (i believe) been completed. Please take a look so we can finally get this FL closed. Take Care. - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 03:43, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Will look again today. Courcelles 08:47, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hi, Courcelles, and thanks for reverting whatever user:24.137.114.30 did to my userpage. I've been offline for several days and I missed it. (Lucky me!) But I am kind of baffled. I don't recognize the user, and nothing in his contribution record gives me any clue why he decided to attack me. Was there anything in his, uh, message to suggest who he is or what got him so PO'ed? Or would you suggest i just forget it? Thanks! --MelanieN (talk) 04:18, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Nothing I could see, either. Just your standard—if particularly disgusting—vandalism. Courcelles 08:48, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

RevDel badly needed

Hi, Paul Ackerley's article originally contained a LOT of copyvio. Wordsmith removed quite a bit of it back in February, but there was still some left when I checked the article today. --*Kat* (meow?) 05:34, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Mopped up. Yet another article you're the only visible author of! Thanks for cleaning it up! Courcelles 08:49, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Should that be logged at Wikipedia:ARBCC#Blocks, bans, and sanctions? --TS 08:58, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Yep, done. Thanks. Courcelles 09:24, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

User:Attilios on Teramo

Hello, this user keeps on reverting the article to his very personal version deleting the long work of many. He constantly comes to my talk page insulting me in Italian. I'm tired of telling him wikipedia is cooperation and community. Please get things fixed asap.

DDF19483 (talk) 14:01, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi! Honestly, I wonder if you can help to solve this edit war, especially since DDF19483's version of the article is barely written in English and full of errors. Let me know. --'''Attilios''' (talk) 17:16, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Oh dear. It looks like you have blocked Jimbo Wales's friend. Arctic Night 19:08, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Good idea. You're David Cameron? Why didn't you tell me? We could have discussed strange parliamentary systems together. Arctic Night 19:21, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

    • Yeah, that almost fell into the category of "so obviously rejected I could have declined it myself". Almost, because nothing ever actually falls there, but I knew no admin would buy that one. Courcelles 19:37, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

rfppClerk

I believe you're using an old cached version of my script. rfppClerk had a bug were some adminly responses weren't being recognized and counted (in this edit the script says there are 3 pending requests; there is only 1). Just to be sure, can you try bypassing your cache and running the script again? Rami R 20:30, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Done and done. I'll let you interpret the results. Courcelles 20:33, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
I am pleased to see my interpretation above was correct :) Thanks for your time, Rami R 20:36, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for being willing to help here. Points: 1 pt for date relevancy, 1 for underepresented topic (witchcraft), 1-2 for no similar topic on the MP recently. Here's a blurb for you to work with, feel free to tweak/ce/etc:

Grace Sherwood (1660 – late 1740), known as the Witch of Pungo, was a healer, midwife, and farmer who spent her entire life in the old Princess Anne County and Pungo, Virginia. Sherwood's neighbors claimed that she ruined crops, killed livestock, and conjured storms. She was tried for witchcraft several times, the first in 1697 when she was accused of casting a spell on a bull, resulting in its death. The following year she was charged again, for bewitching the hogs and cotton crop belonging to one of her neighbors. Her final trial took place in 1706, when she was accused of bewitching Elizabeth Hill, causing Hill to miscarry. The court ordered that Sherwood's guilt or innocence should be determined by ducking her in water. If the water rejected her and she floated, then she was guilty; if the water accepted her and she drowned, then she was innocent. Sherwood floated to the surface, and subsequently spent up to seven years and nine months in the jail next to Lynnhaven Parish Church. She was free by 1714 and succeeded in recovering her property from Princess Anne County, after which she lived quietly until her death in 1740 at the age of 80. On July 10, 2006, the 300th anniversary of her conviction, Sherwood was officially pardoned by the Governor of Virginia. A statue depicting her with a raccoon and a basket containing garlic and rosemary was erected near Sentara Bayside Hospital in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

IP address blocking

Hi Courcelles,

I wonder if you may be ale to give me some advice please? User 86.155.54.118 is a repeat vandal. Can you point me please at the info on what needs to be done to block this IP address please?

Any help is much appreciated.

Best regards.

Socheid (talk) 21:50, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Well, if they vandalise again, a warning needs to be left on [User talk:86.155.54.118]]. After accumulating four warnings, including one final warning, see Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace for some guidance, report them to WP:AIV for blocking. Courcelles 22:00, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Thank you. Socheid (talk) 21:04, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

FAC

Hey. If you aren't busy, would you mind reviewing the Bollywood film Taare Zameen Par for FAC here? It's already been copyedited by Malleus. Thanks :) Ωphois 14:19, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

I'll take a look if I get a chance, though the subject is pretty much as far from my areas of knowledge as it is possible to get. Courcelles 15:14, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks...

...for taking care of that "purely disruptive material" on my userpage! Arctic Night 16:46, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

All part of the service. (Service you'll be fully capable of rendering yourself once your back, I'm certain.) Courcelles 16:47, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
Oh, I like what you are hinting at :) I think I would like to prolong that for a while once I come back 'full time' though, as there are plenty of articles to be written! Arctic Night 17:01, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
And userpages ;) *Breathes. Delete button is on fire.* Yes, there are plenty of articles left to do, though not as much creation. We still have tons of crap sitting around to make better. Courcelles 18:53, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
Ah - well, there's a lot of stuff still to be made better :) Arctic Night 18:54, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
I sent you an e-mail, just to be sure the "scorched earthing" of your userpages was actually you. Someone said on WT:RFA recently that it would be useful to restrict article creation to admins for a month or two, to force folks to work on the lousy articles. Never happen, but it actually would be good for us to focus more on making existing articles better for a while. (well, and given how much time admins have to spend cleaning out CAT:SD...) Courcelles 18:58, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
I've sent you an email re the reasoning for the scorched earth deletions of yesterday (you might note that these have been partially restored now). Arctic Night 14:41, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Are you also able to restore User:Arctic Night/huggle.css at all? I would go through WP:REFUND, but since I see you're online right now, I'll just go direct :) Thanks, Arctic Night 16:04, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Done. Courcelles 16:05, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. I trust that by your being online right now you've taken a look at my email? Thanks again, Arctic Night 16:07, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
OK, so I'm not entirely sure what's going on, nor what's going to happen, but I would like to discuss this with you over email. I'm signing off for the afternoon now, but I would really appreciate it if you could let me know (privately, of course) what action has been or will be taken, if any at all. I can keep in touch through my iPhone if need be. Thanks! Arctic Night 17:07, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, kind of working (for actual money ;) ), protecting, tracking down a 128 vandal, and thinking about your e-mail all at the same time. I'll e-mail you tonight. Courcelles 17:09, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, not a problem. That's most likely when I'll be signing back on anyway, so there's no rush :) Have fun working! Arctic Night 17:13, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
