View Source Tab

[edit]

I thought I read somewhere on wikipedia that there was an option to have "view source" as a default tab on every page. I looked through "my preferences" and did a google search and a wikipedia search, and I can't seem to find this option. Can anyone tell me:

  • if this option does exist, and if not,
  • where I should post a suggestion for this option

Quite often if I need to figure out how to code a page I'm editing, I find another article that has what I want and I cannibalize. I'm sure this is pretty common. But when I do this, I worry a bit that I'm going to screw up the page or simply show a change in the history where I haven't made a change. I'm sure it's not a real risk at this point, at least not for me. But accidents do happen and I think it's just smart to have the option of just looking at the source without actually being in edit mode.

Thanks!

As far as I know, "view source" only appears when a page is fully protected. You can always undo an unintended page, and if you copy the code to WP:SAND b4 you change anything, there's no risk of a mistake. Xiner (talk, email) 17:18, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. You can add the tab with JavaScript. See User:Misza13/Scripts/View_source. -- zzuuzz(talk) 17:35, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
