Welcome!

Hello Dessydes, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!

I saw your article on Gong Bao Tian when looking at the stub articles, and it looks good. However, it would be great if you can also find a birth and death year etc. for him, and/or clarify which form of martial arts he practiced (for the category, I don't know much about the subject, and there are subcategories for Category:Chinese martial artists which he could be further categorized to). - Bobet 01:19, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

Welcome All[edit]

Welcome to my talk page. I've just archived it leaving just my welcome message intact, as I wanted to tidy it up a bit, clear a bit of space, etc. You may still write any other comments on this talk page. 01:43, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Hello[edit]

Hey there, I saw your note on Talk:Russian martial arts and thought I'd drop by to say hello. You saw Go Warrior? I thought that it was pretty showy but still interesting. The other episodes of the show are the same.. fast and loose.. entertaining all around. -- Sy / (talk) 22:42, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Shaolin[edit]

Here are the pinyin transliterations for the following:

  • Hernan Province - "Henan Province"
  • Shao Hong - If this refers to the "small hong fist" routine, then this should be "xiaohong".
  • Tong Chi Gong - If this refers to Shaolin child training, then this should be "tongzigong".
  • Dharma
  • Jao Ma – A way to strengthen the fingers. Involves pushing one's hands into dried sand or beans to deaden the nerves in the tips of the fingers.
  • Yao Sher – Don't know.
  • (Dan) Dao - This conforms to pinyin. "Dan" means single, so "dan dao" refers to the use of a single sabre, as opposed to "shuang dao," double sabres.
  • Guan/Quan Dao – Pinyin is "guandao".
  • Arhat – Pinyin Chinese is "luohan".
  • Long – Does this refer to the Chinese dragon? If so, then "long" is already the correct pinyin.
  • Wu Chi Shi – Pinyin is "wu qin xi".
  • Wu Sin Chuan – Pinyin is "wu xing quan".
  • Gao Sin Chuan - "Gou xing quan" is the pinyin for the words you use here, but I've only ever seen "gou quan" used. Refers to Shaolin dog style.
  • Yin Jao Gung - Eagle claw is "ying zhao" in pinyin. "Ying zhao gong" would translate as "eagle claw skill," but I've never seen this usage. "Ying zhao pai" is generally used to refer to eagle claw style.
  • Hu sin Chuan - In pinyin, "hu xing quan". "Hu quan" is the more common term. Shaolin Tiger style.
  • Hao Sin Chuan - In pinyin, "hou xing quan". "Hou quan" is the more common term.
  • Teng Man Chuan – I have no idea where this came from. "Mantis fist" should be "tanglang quan".
  • Dan Tien – dantian
  • Ber Shi Cha – Don't know.
  • Chan(g) Chin Gur - No idea what this refers to.

WWIN[edit]

While I understand the reason for burying certain pages, this is not the place. There are plenty of sites that will allow you to keep private journals (and actually have them private rather than viewable by the entire world). Please see Wikipedia:User_page and What Wikipedia Is Not. If someone else were to request the deletion of one of your subpages, it would have to be publicly discussed. If you make the request, however, the deletion will be uncontested. You can easily get any of your user subpages deleted by adding {{db-owner}} to the page. Thank you. Wikidiaries[edit]

Thank you for your compliment of my userpage. I have to admit, though, that I just stole concepts from other user pages and pieced together what I wanted. If you "edit this page" on my userpage, you'll see a comment at the top that credits the others. As for your Wikidiaries -- I like the idea. It allows you to neatly organize information you want accessible without cluttering your watchlist or user page. I actually came across them while patrolling Anon RC, when an anon made an edit to the subpage I mentioned above (which I see you've had deleted). That, and your own contributions showed all of your subpages. That's how I usually run across most things -- not by the normal "link" route, but by lists of contributions. You see more of the larger picture that way. Happy editing! SWAdair 04:10, 4 August 2006 (UTC) Fiziks 15:52, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Updates[edit]

Hi sorry about the delay in answering your query. As you pointed out the article is incomplete in its historical section and an edit that would remedy this would defiantly be appreciated. That said some people are sensitive to changes in articles, and while I doubt that any upgrade you perform on the article would lead to an editwar it may be best to post the proposed updates in the Discussion section of the article as a precaution. Thanks Freepsbane 00:20, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Shaolin styles[edit]

My position is that, beyond the material in the Exposition of the Original Shaolin Staff Method and the Boxing Classic, what is or is not "Shaolin" cannot be authenticated.

There are some versions of oral history that I believe have more credibility than others, but they do not meet Wikipedia standards for reliable sources.

If you have any questions about language, I'll be glad to help you out, but on content, there is little if no peer-reviewed material out there that corroborates claims that many styles are Shaolin.
JFD 04:16, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

That information ought to be easy enough to find. Just keep in mind that a lot of styles that consider themselves Shaolin or are widely considered Shaolin (mostly Southern stuff like Hung Gar, Choy Lee Fut and Wing Chun) aren't currently taught at the Shaolin Monastery.
JFD 11:07, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

WRT styles currently taught at the Shaolin temple, many of the contemporary monks have made videos, catalogs of which you could use as a starting point for a list, but do try and verify with a more reliable source.

Wikidiaries[edit]

Thanks for it! Liked the one about sarging, the others too. Interesting information. Mathmo Talk 15:44, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

In answer to what you posted on my talk page, probably shouldn't call myself a PUA. Perhaps GPUA is more accurate? Plus I've kind of regressed a bit since having a GF. Still, I do ok. For instance got a couple of numbers last night, not that getting numbers really mean much at all. Don't have a myspace page, kind of hate them because people have such shocking myspace pages (most know nothing about web design). But I'll probably get one soon(-ish), because I can see it's advantages. How about yourself, how are you doing? I think I came acrss your page by looking at "what links here" from one of the seduction related pages. Mathmo Talk 07:13, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
Random question, you are not by any chance in NZ? Just by chanced happened to notice this edit. Mathmo Talk 04:40, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

PUA[edit]

Thought I'd let you know I'm removing the sex stub, though it is kind of related I just felt it is not quite on the mark and something else might be better. Hmm.. perhaps there is a relationships tag. Mathmo Talk 03:36, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Joseph Matthews[edit]

Heh, just happened to notice you refering to him. Don't you find his emails really annoying? Very spamming, think the only reason I'm still subscribed is because I'm too lazy to bother unsubscribing! Mathmo Talk 18:24, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Removed link from the sarging page[edit]

  • Dallas PUA Wiki, don't like it any more? Or more that you prefer the other one you put there? Perhaps I should spend more time instead at that 2nd one you mentioned. Hmm... could be more "productive" there. Heh. Mathmo Talk 09:46, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Wikiproject Pornography[edit]

Hi –

I'm contacting you because you're listed as an active member of WikiProject Porn stars. I'm interested in creating a WikiProject Pornography and have started a poll to see whether WikiProject Porn stars should be merged into that project or remain separate. I'm fine with either. Please weigh in at: Wikipedia talk: WikiProject Porn stars: Proposal: WikiProject Pornography

Thanks – Iamcuriousblue 21:48, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Could you help me write this article?[edit]

The article Nopi has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Strange page[edit]

Hi, Dessydes. I noticed that this page User talk:Dessydes/My Watchlist is being included in some template categories. I was unable to figure out the reason because all the categories are using the ":", which should not include them. In any case, the page is in User-talk space, when it should be in user space. Plus it seems unnecessary as it basically duplicates the functionality of Special:Watchlist/edit. Could you fix the category problems (so that the page does not have any categories at the bottom)? You should also consider moving it to user space. Alternatively, you may wish to just have the page deleted. Jason Quinn (talk) 18:53, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
