Cut and paste from User talk:RHaworth - my page is getting a bit too big

Your suggestions are quite impressive. Shall try to expand in a few days to avoid deletion on account stub. If I am not able to fully avoid deletion due to its short nature, can I delete myself? Can I add some more topic relevance to Thermal Power station, connected with another article on Fossil fuel? Since I am a new comer, such silly questions please. -- 222.153.156.22 10:04, 31 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sorry, have any of your contribs been under threat of deletion? I picked up deaerator because it was in need of tidying, I saw no deletion threat. Points to watch:
-- RHaworth 14:47:18, 2005-08-31 (UTC)

Sorry, I made you worried. Not at all my intention. Thanks for your explaining to me. None at threat so far. I am user Dore chakravarty. Forgetting signing because of lack of practice and carelessness as well. [see 1 below]. The idea of logo is only to say that it is of Wiki paper, suggested by one of my friends. Do you feel that it should be omitted? I see this on all articles of WIKI so far seen by me. [2]. Shall see about links. Shall I include some more of Power station equipment to make it bigger to avoid Stub and deletion? [3]. Shall I change the title to something like UTILITY THERMAL PLANT EQUIPMENT to generalise? [6]. Why do I not see my article Thermal Power Station and instead I see my user name, which requires deletion? [7]. Request for help only on this. Sorry to troubele you.Thanking you once again. --222.153.156.22 22:41, 31 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  1. One thing you get when you are logged in is a watchlist - this will help you see when I reply to you on this page.
  2. You will see the Wiki logo on every page but it is not part of the article text. When you uploaded deaerator did you not see that the logo appeared twice?
  3. There you go again worrying about stub deletion. This - Nevin is a stub. Your two (so far) articles are of ample length and are in no danger of deletion. However …
  4. Robchurch has spotted that we already have a power station article but at quick glance, it looks fairly general. I suggest you carry on with what you are doing - sorting things out will probably be a matter of a few links and changed titles. But do read power station carefully so that you are aware if you are duplicating material.
  5. Indeed, I recommend you to read a few Wiki articles to help you with Wiki markup. Remember, you can hit edit this page even if you have no intention of making changes, and see how the rendered appearance is achieved in Wiki markup.
  6. Keep the title for the moment.
  7. Sorry, don't understand this at all. Please try again, if you have not already worked out the answer yourself.
-- RHaworth 23:31:48, 2005-08-31 (UTC)

Thanks a lot. Helped a lot for me to understand. Revised text now and saved. Understood the Wiki style. Noted about the Wiki image. Regarding deletion someone else said that this is Industry stub. Hence worried. Could not understand how to get EDIT in each headding in sand box. When u search for Thermal Power Station then you get in the list User Dore Chakravarty. This to be removed as it is no good to have this personal data here. Noted the help by Robchurch. Sorry, troubling you again. -- Dore chakravarty 22:11, 1 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • It was I who marked it industry stub. I'm not sure why I did - it is not a stub in my view. But even if it was a stub, you've got the wrong idea: marking something stub means that you accept its existence - you want to see it expanded. It is the db series of tags that are proposals for deleteion.
  • All search engines have a delay between a page being created and it appearing on the engine's results. There are three engines available: Wiki's own - not always available, Google and Yahoo. I think in this case you are referring to Google. Good heavens, you don't ask to be removed from Google! You go straight to the page it has indexed already and add links to your own websites so it will index them as well next time it reads that page. Note that Special:Allpages is always up to date.
  • -- RHaworth 02:02, 3 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot. Learnt a lot. Saw article Deaerator at Wiki site. Uploaded my Theremal power station article with Wiki style editing.Any suggestions? I have to upload Part 2 on this. What title and how title to be worded? Thinking.Suggestions? Google earch-to try. --Dore chakravarty 06:23, 4 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thermal power station is currently 16520 bytes. Assuming Part 2 is about the same size, don't create a separate article. Wiki starts moaning at 30 kbytes but ignore it - this talk page is 53 kbytes. -- RHaworth 10:47:11, 2005-09-04 (UTC)

Uploaded Part 2 along with first part now. The total is about 31kb only. Thanks for your suggestion. Thinking of adding some more articles like deaerator, all in one to make it near about 30kbs. Thganks once again. -- Dore chakravarty 00:16, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thermal power station - September 6

[edit]
Cut and paste from User:RHaworth, ie. my user page not my talk page. (It's OK - I forgive you.)

When I search for this it shows only Power station, the old artcle and not the above one. Probably it clashes with the old one. Can you please elucidate if you find time. [see 1 below]. I once saw in Wiki list that my silliness explained to you is published along with another person pointing out some relevance to some word in my Deaerator artclle which I corrected. Not able to see anymore of this. How is these? [2]. Reply when you find time please. Incidentally I went through your personal Web site. Very interesting indeed. I am also from Dos 3 on computer and today MS latest. More when you are free to tell you about my family website. -- Dore chakravarty 23:02, 6 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  1. As I said before, it is not any sort of clash - it is just that the inverted index that drives Wiki's search engine is always horribly out of date. Thus, I just checked that Wiki search finds Binsey - article created July 28 - but it does not find Birtley - created as long ago as Aug 2. Be patient - you may have to wait a month before Wiki's search engine notices the article - Google will probably see it first.
  2. Are you possibly referring to some comments from Rob Church? You will find them higher up this very page!

Clarified

[edit]

I have checked up once again. This is ur website http://www.rhaworth.myby.co.uk/ It says thus--This is just a little something to establish my presence on the Web. In fact I am still very much a MsDos person. If you need good old fashioned keyboard-pounding applications on an 80x25 text screen, then come to me. -- I think I am not wrong. Excuse me if so. -- Dore chakravarty 06:34, 7 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Editing the user page of someone else is not forbidden but it is certainly frowned upon. Every such edit has to considered on its merits. Yours (now above) verges on vandalism - I still forgive you but in future please use User talk:RHaworth.
The URL http://RHaworth.net/ (which is at the top of my user page) redirects to http://www.rhaworth.myby.co.uk/ . So your remark is not wrong - just unneccessary. -- RHaworth 14:54:07, 2005-09-07 (UTC)

Image:Dores-Boiler Cycle diag1.jpg

[edit]

Regarding the image Image:Dores-Boiler Cycle diag1.jpg, it's going to need source information. Since you produced the diagram yourself, if you want to release it to the public domain or release it under the GFDL, add either pd-self or gfdl-self to the image's description page. You could copy and paste the following onto the page to do all this:

License
gfdl-self

Source
Drawn from memory; scanned and uploaded. Released under the GFDL. ~~~~

Re: Air Pre-heaters

[edit]

Ready one more article air pre-heaters. Intend creating new page equipment thermal station and to move existing article of mine on de-aerator and saving this new page air pre-heaters to this new page. Further intend adding some more articles on equipmenmt, to EQUIPMENT THERMAL STATION page. Your suggestions please. Redrawing hand drawn diagrams by CAD being done. Waiting for your suggestions and directions before proceeding please. --Dore chakravarty 05:27, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Go ahead and create the page on Air pre-heaters and save that text to it. Avoid moving articles by cutting-and-pasting content, as this introduces complications with licensing. Feel free to add more content to any article. With regards to the renewed diagrams; great - you can upload those (preferably as PNG format images) - but let me know if you run into problems and I'll help you with the uploading and specifying licensing, etc. Rob Church Talk | Desk 08:14, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Adding

[edit]

Hi. That "Indian wikipedians" stuff is known as a category. To add it, enter the following text to the bottom of your user page.

I also notice that you haven't posted a message on my talk page correctly. Use the + sign on top to post a new message on a Talk Page. Thanks. =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:35, 14 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've fixed up the category on your user page and I've highlighted the + sign here:

Note: the + sign only appears on Talk: pages, (I've highlighted that too. ) =Nichalp «Talk»= 09:40, 14 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Pics

[edit]

Thanks for the images. Just let us know the what licence you wish to tag it as . (see wikipedia:Image copyright tags) Note: If the photos were first published then (that is to say before 1945), then according to Indian copyright laws, copyrights on the images have expired. =Nichalp «Talk»= 07:01, 23 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

should be fine. You get to keep the copyrights. Anyone can use it as long as he credits you. Thanks for the photos. =Nichalp «Talk»= 09:20, 24 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Uploading images

[edit]

There are several options you may choose from:

  1. If you would like to auto upload the images then here's the following procedure:
    1. Create a new account in Wikmedia commons
    2. If you're using Windows, then you can download this program (387k)
    3. Run the software. It's pretty straightforward. First set your login info. Then you'd have to select the files, select the licence and add a description to each of the images.
    4. Don't forget to add categories: "Quit India Movement"
    5. All images will be stamped with your usename.
  2. If you would like someone to upload them, then User:MacGyverMagic does voluntary upload them. Just email him and ask him if he is free to upload the images.
    • Your user name will be mentioned in the above as the contributor.

I hope this was useful. =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:49, 25 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe you've uploaded the images sucessfully. I checked and there is no account by the name [user:Dore chakravarty] in commons. Are you using another username? The software is a little dated, cc-2.5 is new, cc-2.0 is also acceptable, the only difference is the wording in legal jargon. If you want to licence under cc-by-sa-2.5, then go to the "BULK EDIT" button on the top right, check the box "Licence" and type in exactly as follows: cc-by-sa-2.5 =Nichalp «Talk»= 05:34, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Images

[edit]

I don't know why the software didn't work properly. But now they are properly uploaded. To add them to the enwiki just add the syntax thumb|240px|Description of the image to the Quit India article.

  • You'd need to add a category to your images;
  • add category:Quit India Movement to all your photos. (Without a category, the images will be orphaned).
  • You will notice that the cat. is a red link
  • Click it and add a line on the Quit India movement and add category:History of India to the category page.
  • On the Quit India page add this: commonscat

=Nichalp «Talk»= 14:41, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Glad I could help. If you notice, the same images can be added to the French, Hindi, German, etc wikipedias by using the exact same syntax. No need to reupload in those wikis. =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:37, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
No category:Quit India Movement is incorrect. You have to wikify them ie. surround it with square brackets. Like this: category:Quit India Movement =Nichalp «Talk»= 18:41, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Update

[edit]
  • I take it that you are viewing QUITIN2.JPG?
  • Now click on the red link below "Quit India Movement"
  • Once the page opens, add the following exactly as follows: to that "Quit India Page".
  • save the page.

=Nichalp «Talk»= 05:26, 28 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

To add text to an image: .

  • image:QUITIN2.JPG = file name
  • thumb = thumbnail it ie. make it smaller with a nice grey frame
  • 250px = size of the image 200px to 270 px is considered acceptable
  • ADD TEXT HERE = replace this sentence by a caption.
See also: Wikipedia:Picture tutorial

Ok, go to Quit India Movement

  • On the left of the page you will see "Francais"
  • Click it
  • add the image the same way as you did in here in en:
  • There are no pages in Hindi and Tamil for the QIM as of now I'm afraid.

=Nichalp «Talk»= 07:44, 28 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image placement

[edit]

French

[edit]

Great, you got the image part correctly.

If you know French, you just have to translate Procession view at Bangalore to that in French. The rest of the syntax remains the same. File:....... There's no harm in putting the caption in English, someone or the other working in the French Wikipedia will notice it and translate it sooner or later.

That's a very nice image of Ranjitsinhji you have there. We can use it, but before we can use it I'd like to finish explaining the Quit India Category to you.

On this page: Quit India Movement please add the following text under ==External Links== exactly as follows: Quit India Movement
After saving the page, click this page commons:. You'll find more messages there.

=Nichalp «Talk»= 09:23, 29 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Great!

[edit]

Great work, you've done all correctly.

  • If you notice there's Svenska (Swedish) on the left hand column of the QIM page. You can add the images to that project too, exactly as you've done in en: and fr:.
  • You had mentioned this to me earlier: I have removed the end brackets to avoid photos coming in. [[image:QUITIN2.JPG|thumb|250px| Procession view at Bangalore
    • To link to an image, without it being displayed, add a colon (:) before the word image. That is:
    • should be written as Procession view at Bangalore
    • Thus it will look like this: Procession view at Bangalore
  • Since you're now familiar with images, you can try uploading the Ranjitsinji photo. Only tag it as category:Cricket instead of category:Quit India Movement
  • Hope we can meet up in January.
