Hello EurAVObservatory. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:EurAVObservatory. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=EurAVObservatory|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Theroadislong (talk) 11:44, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

European Audiovisual Observatory

[edit]

The content you have added back is unsourced and you have an undeclared conflict of interest, edit warring to get your preferred version of the article will lead to a block. Theroadislong (talk) 11:46, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Bad username

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created European Audiovisual Observatory, and I noticed that your username, "EurAVObservatory", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:52, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to European Audiovisual Observatory. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. Your recent editing history at European Audiovisual Observatory shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Request reason:

I am a bona fide person just wanting to make sure the information on The European Audiovisual Observatory is correct. I am the Communications Manager of the European Audiovisual Observatory and have understood today that I have to follow the procedure to declare this. I will do so. For the moment the information on our organisation, which is part of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, is incomplete, incorrect and out of date. I have also understood that I have to change my name to make it less like the institution I represent. Unblocking my account will mean that you have a professional communications person making sure that all our pages in the various languages are correctly up dated in the interests of Wikipedia. Happy to do so!

Decline reason:

I'm sorry, but I cannot unblock you at this time. If you have written about an organization, please read Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations .To be unblocked:

  • You must propose a new username that meets the username policy Please post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked.
  • You must confirm that this account is used by one individual only.
  • You must agree not to promote any subject on Wikipedia. Please read User:deepfriedokra/promo for information on content to avoid.
  • You must agree to not link to any website with which you have an outside connection..
  • You must agree to abide by the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use and disclose any paid relationship in accordance with the paid contributor policy.
(Please read and heed WP:COI and WP:PAID).

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

You have very clearly misunderstood how Wikipedia works we do NOT need a professional communications person making sure that all your pages in the various languages are correctly up dated. Theroadislong (talk) 12:41, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Declaration of inerest

[edit]

I am the Communications Manager of a European institution called the European Audiovisual Observatory. I am a European Civil Servant and it is part of my job to make sure the information on the platform about the Observatory is correct and up to date. I would like to do so in an open and transparent manner. I understand that the name I have chosen doe snot meet community standards and I will once again try to propose a change.

Account renamed

[edit]

I've globally renamed this account from EurAVObservatory to Strasslife, per request above. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:21, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

However, you need to understand that you will not be unblocked so that you can continue making inappropriate edits to articles related to your employer; if that is your only purpose in Wikipedia, your days here are over. If you are interested in making useful contributions (which are always welcome) on other topics, you will need to:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked (NB the username was only part of it)
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you would make if you are unblocked.
Oh, and please don't post any more unblock requests while the current one is still open. Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:38, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Really appreciate this step and I hope I'm answering you in the correct way. Just a basic question therefore and your advice will be much appreciated. How do I achieve the following: I work for part of the Council of Europe (declared). The page on my organisation is incomplete and incorrect and out of date. I know this because I am at the heart of this information. I have understood that the Wikipedia team do not even want me to touch this page. All clear. I have also understood that it is in everyone's interest that this page be corrected (little example: the KORDA database mentioned on the page does not even exist anywmore...) So how do I do this? Get a friend to make the up dates from outside? The bottom line is we all have the same goal here: that the information on the European Audiovisual Observatory be complete and correct. I'll try and sign this message according to your rules (be patient they're complex) Strasslife (talk) 11:49, 23 September 2021 (UTC) Strasslife. Advice appreciated.[reply]

No, you do not ask a friend, that is against policy. You may use the Template:Request_edit process to ask neutral editors to make changes on your behalf. Please read all the links in the message at the top of this page thoroughly, this and other important information is explained there. - MrOllie (talk) 11:54, 23 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

BRILLIANT THANKS MrOllie. This seems a very good solution indeed. It gives me hope that we can get the page corrected. See it from our point of view: the rules of posting are highly complex and from the outside it's very hard to judge what you moderators will deem appropriate and what is not. So here we have a great solution where I can respectfully point out what is just plain WRONG and what is missing. Very happy about this message. Strasslife Hope I signed correctly.
