April 2017[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Mattythewhite. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Adam Reed (footballer, born 1991), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Philippine national team under Marlon Maro[edit]

Any sources that the national team by coach Marlon Maro is a "selection team" other than "common sense"? The Philippine Football Federation is treating the squad as a national side albeit obviously without most of the standouts from the usual squad as stated in the pertinent report. Hariboneagle927 (talk) 10:31, 29 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Explanation is already within the section itself. It's the U-23's backed up by selected senior players from two clubs, Davao and Laguna. Plus one foreign based player in Mike Ott of course and is still eligble for the U-23's. FilFootyGuy (talk) 14:40, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No it isn't the U23. RS has said that it was supposed to be the U22/U23 to be sent but they decided to send a downgraded senior team with a different staff than usual. Theoretically you can send a senior team with all players eligible for a youth squad but not vice versa. But published sources has already stated it isn't the youth team. Hariboneagle927 (talk) 02:23, 1 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
First of all you don't need to try to educate me on that. I'm more than aware of that!! Perhaps even more than you are because this obviously isn't a youth team. If it was everybody on the team would at least be U-23. Good lord! Second, I never said it was the U-23's. I said the U-23's was the BASIS for this squad which it obviously is. Half of this squad is U-23! Third, just because a squad is a "senior squad" doesn't mean it is the 'A' team. This Philippines team is nowhere close to being the 'A' national team. From the players, to the coaching staff and even to the kit, as they're not even sporting the regular LGR kits the full national team wears. This is clearly a Philippines XI aka Philippines select. FilFootyGuy (talk) 08:55, 1 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No need to be hostile, jeez. My point is this is the senior team, and Maro is the coach of the senior team at least for this tournament. The matches themselves (Never did I said that the national team is the "A" team; I said the matches are "Tier 1, A". The PFF said it themselves that they were, and its not only journalists making assumptions from the FIFA site) are "Tier 1, "A"" team meaning that FIFA considers this team the "full national team" for FIFA ranking purposes and the matches are official. In short, the team is official and is not merely a "select team" unsanctioned by FIFA.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 10:47, 1 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's not FIFA that decides if a team is the full national team. I think I've already told you before, just because a match is or isn't on FIFA's fixture list doesn't mean it is or isn't a full 'A' international. PFF never said the Philippines matches are Tier 1, they just said that all Tier 1 matches are to be played at the Municipal Stadium, whichever the Tier 1 matches are. Ironically all matches will be taking place at that stadium anyway. Doesn't mean the Philippines matches are Tier 1 though. FilFootyGuy (talk) 13:15, 1 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's the PFF's announcement, of course its going to be from the Philippine perspective when they say the matches are going to be "Tier 1, A". You pointed it out that the FIFA website can be unreliable at times when it comes to the fixtures. I pointed out other sources regarding the nature of the matches. The PFF itself treats the matches as full international as per this report despite fielding a less powered side. Why would they treat Gayoso, Kintaro, etc as having made their first international cap for the Laos match and count Phil Younghusband's goal to his goal tally? Again this isn't Bob Guerrero or any sports journalist making assumptions from the FIFA website.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 15:25, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
PFF General Secretary Ed Gastanes stated they are full 'A' international. If you believe otherwise, you need to find better sources than your own opinion. Jack N. Stock (talk) 17:08, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Bangabandhu Gold Cup[edit]

So here is a news source about the team that is participating in the Bangabandhu Gold Cup - "The Philippine Men’s National Team secured the top spot in Group B after a tight 1-0 win over host Bangladesh last Friday 5 October 2018 at the Sylhet District Stadium in Sylhet, Bangladesh."

  • About the teams that participated in the previous edition of Bangabandhu Cup, FIFA doesen't even consider any of the matches as an 'A' international match, as you can find here. And so that can also be said about the teams.
  • About the matches in the CTFA tournament, FIFA considers every single match as an 'A' match, as can be verified here.
  • If the player plays for the B team then he should not have any caps or goals added to his name. But as this extract reads, "Jovin Bedic and Jarvey Gayoso both netted their first international goal for the Philippines", you can find the remaining info here. The goals thus are added to their international career and will be reflected likewise, by any sports website you may check.
  • FIFA is the governing body of world football, if you don't consider what they say, then atleast refer to what your own FA has to say about it.--Anbans 585 (talk) 09:31, 10 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bangabandhu Gold Cup rediscussion[edit]

Okay lets try one more time discussing it out. You may know about the No original research policy.

I strongly agree to you about the fact that the team sent to the tournament was not the full strong team as it does not have all the senior players. I have addressed the same in the dispute resolving committee. And I also stand by that fact.

But the problem is that according to the No Original research policy of Wikipedia, in our case if we need to display a 'B' there then a very valid citation must show that it labels the team as 'B', but I was unable to get a valid source which clearly labels the team as 'B'. Ya, the players may add up to a 'B' team, but according to every valid source, the team is competing under the name of Philippines, calling it 'B' would be considered original research and thus according to Wikipedia's policy it wouldn't be considered okay.

This time around we will calmly question each other, and try to come up on a conclusion, if problems arise then we can involve a moderator to listen to our issue. I have also written about this issue on the dispute resolution noticeboard, the link of which you can find above. In this way both of our arguments will be listened and we will be able to arrive at a decision quickly.

Now you can put up any question to me regarding the things I said above, we will also come to what you and I spoke earlier, but I think it would be better if the other mentioned thing is addressed first.--Anbans 585 (talk) 01:46, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Also reply me by pinging me at your talk page, if you want to reply me on my talk page then that is okay too. I think that if we keep all the content on just one page then the talks may be more constructive.--Anbans 585 (talk) 01:50, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

See the consensus on the talk page of the Bangabandhu Cup, and do reply me on that subs question, on the Bangabandhu talk page or on the dispute resolution noticeboard where I have pinged you.--Anbans 585 (talk) 11:53, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@FilFootyGuy: Match classification and actual squad can be decouple. See recent player strike in Denmark. They used amateur player in Denmark national football team and the match still classified as A match and contributing to FIFA ranking calculation. The Filipino coach admitted that they send an inferior squad , does not mean you can WP:original research as tagging the team as B team. Matthew_hk tc 10:30, 15 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
