January 2024[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Adam Oster. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Liz Read! Hi Liz
yes, I simply didn’t understand how it worked
When I did try to move it through it said it could not be moved because of the already existing page
Should I speedily delete the mainspace page and then move the other one into its place? I’m guessing not.

Teahouse logo
Hello! FlannelManners, you are invited to the Teahouse, a forum on Wikipedia for new editors to ask questions about editing Wikipedia, and get support from peers and experienced editors. Please join us! Liz Read! Talk! 04:13, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, and welcome to Wikipedia :) I just wanted to let you know that I moved this page to the above title, as it previously had a typo in its name which meant it wasn't technically in your 'userspace'. For your information, I also wanted to let you know that I tagged the redirects created from this page's moves for speedy deletion, as the typos meant that the redirects were subpages of users that don't exist. (I also tagged the redirect from the mainspace page Adam Oster for speedy deletion, following the move of the page to your userspace.)

If you have any questions about any of this, feel free to let me know - you can ping me by typing {{u|A smart kitten}}. I see you've already received an invitation above, but you can also visit the Teahouse with any questions you have.

All the best :) ‍—‍a smart kitten[meow] 05:47, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

William Farr (vicar) moved to draftspace[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to William Farr (vicar). Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Ratnahastin (talk) 15:34, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about William Leslie Arnold[edit]

Hello FlannelManners, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, William Leslie Arnold, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/William Leslie Arnold.

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|TheLongTone}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

(Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

Notice

The article H. B. Garlock has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence of any notability. Fails WP:GNG for his evangelical work and fails WP:NAUTHOR with regard to his book. Probably a good guy, but that is not enough to satisfy notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.  Velella  Velella Talk   22:59, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article until the discussion has finished.
