Sarkar

Heh, I am new to this and you are obviously an old hand. But why would you want to delete my post? I have just listed a name (Anirban Sarkar) in a list of examples of the Sarkar surname! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anirban01 (talkcontribs) 10:12, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

I deleted it because it is a link added for self-promotion and linked to an article that is about to be deleted. Flat Out let's discuss it 10:17, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

Olga Wintermans

Hi Flat Out, Thank you for your messages. Sorry I deleted things I should not have deleted. Rooky mistake!

I see my page is nominated to be deleted but I don't understand... This guy - Jan des Bouvrie (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_des_Bouvrie)- has a similar page and his page is not deleted... Olga WIntermans does the same as he and also has worked with him so I believe there is enough reasons to keep the page live on Wikipedia. I also benchmarked with Jan des Bouvries page to make the one for Olga Wintermans... Please let me know - compared to Jan des Bouvrie page - what I am doing wrong so I can keep Olga Wintermans on Wikipedia. Thank you very much in advance. The article Adam McDonald has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Reverted changes on PathVisio

Hi FlatOut, I am trying to document a software. I agree that the text I used was not the most adequate. But now I tryed to keep it short and simple for new editions and to make it more factual. Why did you revert my changes? Nuno m silva (talk) 10:29, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

Firstly, the information you added was copied from a copyrighted website, and was promotional so I nominated it for speedy deletion. Secondly, after you made the edits, there wasn't enough content left to warrant an article on the subject. Flat Out let's discuss it 10:31, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
The website is not copyrighted. It has a creative commons license. You can check it at the bottom. It's true that the text looked a bit promotional but I intend to change it.
I also note that your only other edit was to add the link to the same website to another article. Flat Out let's discuss it 10:37, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
I also created a new table record. I put in the link because I thought it could be good information.
If your intent is to promote PathVisio please don't waste everyone's time. If your intent is to contribute positively to the encyclopedia I will happily offer any help you need. Flat Out let's discuss it 10:41, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

Matthew Norman

Hello flat out,

I saw that you are also from Melbourne and seem to edit a LOT of subjects. I hope you don't mind but would it be ok if I buddy up for a while until I get used to the Wiki experience. I had a few questions that I wanted to ask.. I noticed that you have edited my first subject a lot recently and took information down that I found pretty easy. Do you mind if I use this 'subject' as a way to involve more study. I would ask that you take a look in a couple of days to make sure i'm on the right path if that's ok? Thanks again, hope this isn't annoying but you seem to have a lot of experience and i'm pretty new to this.. thanks. Tenezledroitz (talk) 18:16, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi Tenezledroitz and welcome. Tenez le droit... Uphold the Right? Wasn't that that motto of the Victoria Police Force? In any case, I am more than happy to assist you in any way I can. Pop by any time and I'll keep an eye on your work and offer any suggestions I can. best wishes, Flat Out let's discuss it 01:50, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

Hello, thanks for getting back to me so quickly and thank you for giving me a helping hand. Yes, Tenez Le Droit was used as the motto for Victoria Police a long time ago (not sure why it's not used now) and I have always liked the phrase. I am a journalist and have wanted to be a contributor to Wikipedia for a long time. Honestly, one of the biggest reasons is to do what you seem to be doing and looking at subject matters that are interesting. As a journalist I have sometimes come to wikipedia to research something or someone only to find that the wiki page is completely wrong. I thought now is a good time to contribute. I love documentary films as well but more, I am intrigued by the filmmakers that make them. Only a few of them are known by name and i'd like to do more research on those filmmakers that aren't as well known as i'm interested in their stories. Hence, this is why my first subject was Matt Norman. I watched his film Salute and really enjoyed it. I was writing a story about the black power salute and came across the wikipedia page. There didn't seem to be a lot of information on it and I saw a lot had been deleted. So I'm interested in looking into the deletions and possibly add better factual information with citations. It seems you've started chopping it down a bit so I'd like to jump in the deep end on this subject and if you don't mind when i'm finished ask that you take a look and give advice or criticism on my work here. Thank you again. Tenezledroitz (talk) 02:17, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

Tenezledroitz, one of the traps to avoid is adding new content that is supported by an unreliable source (see WP:RS. Imdb, for example, is not a reliable source because it can be edited by anyone. User edited sites like imdb and wikipedia are rarely accetable as reliable sources. See also WP:42. Flat Out let's discuss it 03:05, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
Hello, thank you for that. I have always thought Imdb was a reliable resource due to their culling process? I could be wrong but thanks for that tip. I haven't finished on this subject yet just took time off to read up more about Wikipedia tips and tricks. Thank you too for correcting any of my errors. I'm sure everyone gets a bit nervous on their first go. After this subject I'll be looking for another. Any recommendations from you. Tenezledroitz (talk) 07:08, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
Keeping going, you are doing well. I will post some useful links on your talk page. Flat Out let's discuss it 08:14, 22 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi Flat Out, thank you for the useful links. Been away in Bali so just getting back in. I noticed on my project page that someone (unknown) removed a lot of my work. I had a good look through the history of this subject and there seems to be a lot of vandalism attempts on this account. Is this common? I am putting the information back where it belongs and will continue to tighten the edit until I'm satisfied that it complies. I'm looking ahead as well. Do you have a project that you need help with that I could also get into. I think the best way to learn is through somebody like yourself who has the experience, at least for a short while. Thanks. AWB

Hi Flat Out. Do you use AWB? I have picked up some of the basics of AWB, but not sure how to change spelling using AWB. Do you know how to do so? If yes, can you teach me how to do so? Thanks. Jianhui67 Talk 11:18, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi Jianhui67, I have found it a little tricky to use so I don't use it. Sorry i can't be of any help, but I did find this User manual Flat Out let's discuss it 03:06, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
It's okay. I know that AWB is hard to use, no wonder you did not use AWB to modify new pages. Jianhui67 Talk 07:27, 22 September 2013 (UTC)

Contesting my page

I'm not sure what's wrong - I am new to Wikipedia, so please explain? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Halcyonyachts (talkcontribs) 09:11, 22 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your question Halcyonyachts. Your username appears to be a business name and you are using your userpage to promote that company which is not allowed. See WP:NOPROMO. Best wishes Flat Out let's discuss it 09:15, 22 September 2013 (UTC)

Canadianhandshake

I blocked indef as a VOA. However the name itself was not a violation regardless of the article content, as (to put it mildly) I don't think the term is in wide enough use to be immediately recognizable. Daniel Case (talk) 18:16, 22 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks Daniel Case. Flat Out let's discuss it 01:36, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

Replying to your message

I am not acting for Ray Stoney nor do I have any relationship with him. I am simply posting an article about an actor that I am aware of. He was on Under The Dome and when I was looking for him online, I did not see Wiki bio for him so I added one. I am new to posting wiki articles. If I did something incorrectly, please let me know so I can fix it. (ExclusivePR (talk) 02:26, 23 September 2013 (UTC))

ExclusivePR , your username indicates you may be operating in a paid capacity. The username does not meet wikipedia guidelines, and the subject does not appear to meet guidelines for notability. As a result I have nominated the article for deletion. Flat Out let's discuss it 02:28, 23 September 2013 (UTC)
  • I've blocked the username accordingly, so any further communications should be done on their userpage. If they are a paid user, I don't think that they are as blatantly promotional as others have been in the past. Even so, the username is still inappropriate. In any case, I wanted you to know that you should discuss any further elements on their usertalk page as they still have access to that. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 03:12, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

Blacklisted references

When removing <ref>s using blacklisted links, as you did in this edit, please be sure not to leave orphaned refs behind (e.g. these). An easy way to check is to see if the page ends up in the hidden category Category:Pages with broken reference names after your edit. Thanks! Anomie 10:56, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

About OnlineHPC copy&paste

This page is really copied and pasted from the [[Onlinehpc] page. The original page has incorrect title - last three letters should be capitals. Please, remove the original page and leave this one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Onlinehpc (talkcontribs) 12:39, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

About OnlineHPC copy&paste 2

Hi! Thank you for a quick answer! I do kno that page OnlineHPC duplicates Onlinehpc. These to pages have an identical content and were both created by me. The page OnlineHPC is correct, and the existing page Onlinehpc is wrong, since it's title is on wrong case.

Please, remove the page Onlinehpc and leave OnlineHPC — Preceding unsigned comment added by Onlinehpc (talkcontribs) 12:59, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Your involvement with DRN

Hi there, I noticed that you haven't been as active at DRN as you was before. DRN has been a bit backlogged lately and we could use some extra hands. We have updated our volunteer list to a new format, Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Volunteers (your name is still there under the old format if you haven't updated it) and are looking into ways to make DRN more effective and more rewarding for volunteers (your input is appreciated!). If you don't have much time to volunteer at the moment, that's fine too, just move your name to the inactive list (you're free to add yourself back to active at any time). Hope to see you again soon :) Steven Zhang (talk) 13:17, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi there. I've finally come back to trying to edit this article! Did you ever find out about whether information sourced from a YouTube video was acceptable? I'm just trying to work out which sources are ok so that I can rewrite the article around those. My First Page OKTA LOGUE

Hi Flat Out! Thanks for the welcome. I´m currently writing my first article and must have published while i was nowhere near ready to do so. Sorry about that. I am not familiar with the editing process yet and was just trying to figure out how to create and set up an article about a well known german band. How can i see if my article is still public right now, unfinished as it was? How can save a draft without publishing it? Many thanks in advance! awg — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anotherghostwriter (talkcontribs) 10:45, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi Anotherghostwriter I will move it to your userspace so you can work on it, and add a draft article template so you can submit it for review when you are ready. Hope this helps. Flat Out let's discuss it 10:49, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, Anotherghostwriter I wasn't quick enough - it has been deleted. do you have a copy of what you wrote?
Hi Flat Out, sorry i couldn`t find a way to answer you on my talk page ( maybe i oversaw something) so i had to write a new message to do so: Yes, i have a copy of the original text. I was just starting to create the article. Also i have a lot of solid references that i wanted to add. The band has a major deal with Columbia/Sony, is touring with bands like Neil Young & Crazy Horse and is by no means irrelevant. It was just my mistake to upload the unfinished version without any discography or reference. What can i do now? I feel a little lost right now...Thanks! ;) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anotherghostwriter (talkcontribs) 10:59, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
Anotherghostwriter Go to User:Anotherghostwriter/Draft/Okta Logue and paste your work in there, same as you did before.
Ok, great! Thank you...I will need a few hours i guess then i`ll sent the article for review. Again, thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anotherghostwriter (talkcontribs) 11:08, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
