September 2020[edit]

Hello, Gentle Fire Group, welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. Your editing pattern indicates that you may be using multiple accounts or coordinating editing with people outside Wikipedia, such as Wawamoz (talk · contribs). Our policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow this, and users who misuse multiple accounts may be blocked from editing. If you operate multiple accounts directly or with the help of another person, please disclose these connections. Thank you. Drm310 🍁 (talk) 16:00, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

COI username notice[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Gentle Fire Group", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Angus W🐶🐶F (barksniff) 18:50, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

September 2020[edit]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Kinu t/c 07:57, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

the account has not been used for advertising or promotion, the username does not indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site. Gentle Fire has been defunct since 1975, as it states in the article text. The article is the history of the group, which played a significant role in the avant garde music of the sixties and early seventies of the last century. Would it conform to Wikipedia rules if it was renamed as: 'Stuart Jones (Wawamoz) representing the ex members of Gentle Fire’?

Decline reason:

A username cannot be that of a group. You say the group is defunct, but that members of the group are writing the draft- as such, you will need to change your username. Please follow the instructions with your next unblock request to propose a new username. You'll also need to review conflict of interest. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 09:18, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

The content of the article is appropriate for inclusion in Wikipedia and my first suggested alternative username seems to be not accepted

Decline reason:

That username still implies you are a group. I have not reviewed the other part of your request so have no comment as to your edits. Yamla (talk) 12:07, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The suggested name "Stuart Jones (Wawamoz) representing the ex members of Gentle Fire" appears to confirm that this account is a sockpuppet of User:Wawamoz "Wawamoz is a pseudonym of the composer and sound artist Stuart Jones." It shouldn't be unblocked. Wawamoz, do you have any other accounts? Cabayi (talk) 12:18, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No I don't. I only opened this account because I couldn't find a way to draft the article through my Wawamoz account. I am a seventy one year old newish user trying to draft articles for the first time, and it seems that whichever way I turn I am breaking some of it seems thousands of Wikipedia rules. Hmmm. Not sure what to do other than give up using Wikipedia. Gentle Fire Group (talk) 13:29, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the good news is that you succeeded in creating the draft articles Draft:Gentle Fire under your first account. There's nothing different about this account, no reason for you to have created it, and no reason to keep using it.
On past experience, it's likely that your focus on writing an article to memorialise your band blinds you to the band's lack of notability and your conflict of interest. If you were to contribute to the wiki in areas where you have no vested interest you'd likely find it a lot easier - despite being seventy one. Cabayi (talk) 14:26, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
