Hi CalCoWSpiBudSu. No, that image is likely copyrighted, so it couldn't be uploaded to Commons. It was produced in 1978 and the National Archives list the copyright status as undetermined. If there are no free images available of him, you could upload the image locally on the English Wikipedia with a non-free fair use rationale. If you take that route, you'll want to use Template:Non-free use rationale and Template:Non-free biog-pic. gobonobo + c 19:53, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the feedback, this photo and this one are both in the Gardiner, Arthur Z. collection. The author says that the US government has copyrighted this material, I'm not sure if the General Lê Văn Kim.jpg file has the correct image tag; if so, then similar photos like this one and this one — also in the same collection — can be uploaded with the same PD-USGov tag, right? CalCoWSpiBudSu: Maybe? My understanding is that PD-USGov is for works by US Government employees performed as part of their official duties, so I'm not sure if Gardiner's images would qualify. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

Oh, you know, if it isn't just the most basic workshop ever needed, "Wikipedia Editing for Absolute Beginners" for those who haven't had the pleasure of diving into that simple process quite yet. Bless their hearts, they're just starting out, so we thought, why not put something together? Because, you know, it's not like it's rocket science or anything, but hey, we're always happy to lend a hand where we can. And just a little bit of Minnesota Nice to help along the way. 'Uff da!' you say? Well editing the Wikipedia is not hard at all!

Join us at one of our three FREE workshops in Minnesota, where you can learn how to edit Wikipedia and add Minnesota's local history in a relaxed and supportive setting. Work alongside others and discover how easy editing Wikipedia can be. The workshops aim to enhance the ability of communities in Greater and rural Minnesota to edit Wikipedia and comprehend it's editing culture and guidelines, as well as to expand Wikipedia's coverage of Minnesota's history.

WikiCup 2024 November newsletter

The 2024 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round being a very tight race. Our new champion is AirshipJungleman29 (submissions), who scored 2,283 points mainly through 3 high-multiplier FAs and 3 GAs on military history topics. By a 1% margin, Airship beat out last year's champion, Delaware BeanieFan11 (submissions), who scored second with 2,264 points, mainly from an impressive 58 GAs about athletes. In third place, Generalissima (submissions) scored 1,528 points, primarily from two FAs on U.S. Librarians of Congress and 20 GAs about various historical topics. Our other finalists are: Sammi Brie (submissions) with 879 points, Canada Hey man im josh (submissions) with 533 points, BennyOnTheLoose (submissions) with 432 points, Arconning (submissions) with 244 points, and Christmas Island AryKun (submissions) with 15 points. Congratulations to our finalists and all who participated!

The final round was very productive, and contestants had 7 FAs, 9 FLs, 94 GAs, 73 FAC reviews, and 79 GAN reviews and peer reviews. Altogether, Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!

All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or in the event of a tie, to the overall leader in this field.

Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2025 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement!

My co-worker referred to that one as the 'old school' market as there's another in St. Paul that I've never been to- maybe it was Hmong Village?
