McLeish

Hello. I agree the linked article doesn't now say "BBC Sport understands", but it did yesterday. BBC websites have an irritating habit of updating their stories at the same URL, which not infrequently causes confusion. I'm not going to edit war about the sentence you added, but it looks like the only thing in dispute is the meaning of "accepting" a resignation. If it means "and he can go forthwith without observing his contractual obligations", then certainly they haven't accepted it. If I tender my resignation, I don't expect to leave that day and go and work for the company next door, I have to work a notice period or do whatever else it says in my contract. That's what they're expecting of McLeish: that he doesn't go off to the Villa or elsewhere without coming up with the compensation specified in his contract. The linked article says (before they change it again :-) "Birmingham have begun the process of looking for a new manager after appearing to accept that Alex McLeish will leave St Andrew's." McLeish is probably still under contract to Birmingham, but he certainly isn't their manager. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:52, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

While I agree that McLeish will certainly never actually 'manage' Birmingham City ever again (as has been the case right since he sent his infamous email), his is still – officially at least – the club's manager. The club needs to accept his resignation or change his role (neither of which have happened – yet) before this situation changes. He should be listed as manager until that ceases to be his job title (including any notice period).

Given the article currently says their manager is Martin O'Neill (or attempts to: the wikicode is malformed), I've changed it back to Alex McLeish, as he remains the club's official manager. I suppose the issue could be elaborated on in the main text, but I'll leave that to others. - Green Tentacle (talk) 14:50, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, five years passed between your message and me logging in. I'm afraid I don't have a high resolution version of the original Football League logo. I think I just found the one I uploaded way back on a website (no need for a fair use rationale 15 years ago). The only other copies of it online seem to have been taken from Wikipedia before its deletion. It's a shame that the logo and the following one from 1888–2004 have been deleted, given the 2004–2016 logo has been spared. - Green Tentacle (talk) 22:10, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
