Welcome to Wikipedia!
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia! At Wikipedia, we're all about building consensus, and using critical thinking and rational judgment to decide what the best course of action is in any situation. Although we do have so-called "policies", with the exception of a very few that are necessary for legal reasons (copyright, policy, policies relating to slandering living people, etc.), you should be aware that most of these are totally non-binding. Generally, they are simply descriptions of what has typically happened in the past, that at most are suggestions that we are not obligated to abide by. I would like to encourage you, in your dealings with others on Wikipedia, to resist the temptation to advocate a certain course of action because "the rules say so", and instead would urge you make arguments based on what serves the best interests of the encyclopedia in the given situation.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy yourself here, and I look forward to seeing what you have to contribute to our project. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me at my user talk page. Kurt Weber (Go Colts!) 02:43, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, the recent edit you made to 1988 West Virginia Mountaineers football team has been reverted, as it appears to be unconstructive. Use the sandbox for testing; if you believe the edit was constructive, ensure that you provide an informative edit summary. You may also wish to read the introduction to editing. Thanks. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from ForteTuba, SuggestBot's caretaker.
P.S. You received these suggestions because your name was listed on the SuggestBot request page. If this was in error, sorry about the confusion. -- SuggestBot (talk) 15:02, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
RFC on handlebars
[edit]Thanks for signing, but i need you to sign below the section titled, "Users certifying the basis for this dispute" if you dont mind. That's where it matters for now! Thanks, JeanLatore (talk) 03:13, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- Well, i agree completely with the section i endorsed.
Thank you but if you dont sign on the "users certifying the basis for this dispute" section the RFC i am afraid will be deleted before doing any good. JeanLatore (talk) 17:37, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Invitation to Meetup/Seattle6, a focus group
[edit]Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington (Seattle campus), and my group is reaching out to Wikipedians in the Puget Sound area. We're hosting a focus group designed to gather information on what Wikipedians would like to know about each other when interacting on Wikipedia. Our end goal is to create an embedded application that helps people quickly know more about others' history and activity on Wikipedia, and we feel our design will be much more useful if it's based on insights of users like you.
I'm hoping that the chance to help out local researchers, to engage in lively face-to-face discussion with other Seattle Wikipedians, and to contribute to Wikipedia in a new way will entice you to join us. The session lasts 2 hours and snacks are provided. Sessions will be held on UW Seattle campus - directions will be sent after registration. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated!
Willing and able to help us out? RSVP here. Want to know more? Visit our user talk page . Please help us contact other local Wikipedians, too!Commprac01 (talk) 17:33, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
- Can't make it; sorry.
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
