Reality Check course
[edit]Hi! I just wanted to quickly check in. I've noticed that students are enrolling on the page, but my assumption is from the timeline that you don't expect them to start work on articles until mid-October. Is that correct? I'd like to introduce myself on their talk pages, if that's ok, so they know that can contact me if needed. :) - Bilby (talk) 07:27, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for asking, Bilby. The WP assignment was just discussed in class yesterday. Over the next week, article selection will take place. We meet on Tuesday and Thursday of next week with our Librarian and will be reviewing research resources at that time. So, Thursday, October 6 marks the day that research will begin in earnest. You are welcome to introduce yourself at any time. And, if you care to follow other class discussions, I post announcements and discussion questions on Twitter with the username FIGinstructor. - Greetings, John. I posted an entry at Fringe Theories Noticeboard discussing your course. After coming across some edits that were mistaking fringe sources for reliable sources, I found they were made by Reality Check students. I think they are making good faith edits, but perhaps advising them to read over Wikipedia guidelines such as WP:FRINGE, WP:UNDUE, WP:REDFLAG might be beneficial. Also they are most welcome to stop in at WP:FTN for advice on how best to determine appropriate sources for fringe articles or to ask questions. Cheers, LuckyLouie (talk) 21:37, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, Louie. We were able to discuss your feedback a bit in class on Thursday as a "teaching moment." John.Farquhar (talk) 14:55, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
