Heroes of the Soviet Union
[edit]Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I finished my current project of creating all the biographies on the List of female Heroes of the Soviet Union and was wondering if you would be willing to help create a few of the articles on redlinked on the (still incomplete) draft of List of Heroes of the Soviet Union (B). I'm also trying to create more articles on Heroes of the Soviet Union of repressed peoples that received the title before the repressions and deportations, such as translating the articles on from List of Chechen and Ingush Heroes of the Soviet Union (in Russian). Would you be willing to write a few more articles? English Wiki is nearly at 800 HSU articles! I know you don't have enough time to create a 500,000-byte list of Heroes by surname, but a few articles here and there shouldn't take too much time. Let me know if you can, --PlanespotterA320 (talk) 02:00, 8 May 2018 (UTC) P.S. I've been trying to recruit people to translate the articles from the List of female Heroes of the Soviet Union into Portuguese and Spanish by offering barnstars on twitter for 10+ full translations, since those lists are full of redlinks. French is very redlinked to so if you know anyone who is bilingual in any those languages please spread the word. You seem to have been on Wikipedia much longer than me so I was hoping you know a lot of people who would be up to the challenge. I managed to recruit Tuga1143 from Portuguese but that's it. Thank you again.
- Congratulations on finishing the biographies of female HSU recipients. I would be willing to create a few more articles, but sadly I don't know any bilingual users in Spanish, Portuguese, and French, having not really edited in those areas. Kges1901 (talk) 11:10, 8 May 2018 (UTC)

116th IBCT Change
[edit]Good Morning Kges1901,
I saw your changes last night on the 116th's page. They all look good, though I do have one change I wanted to vet with you first. You changed the motto and response to those associated with the 116th Infantry Regimental (the regimental affiliated unit). The 116th IBCT's motto is still "ever forward" with a response of "stonewall." If you don't have any concerns, I'll make that change back (I don't want to undo the other good updates you made).
Squatch347 (talk) 13:18, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- You appear to be right, but responses to mottoes are generally not included in the infobox as it does not include a field for responses to mottoes. "Rally on the Virginians" is the motto on the old DUI that is no longer used; I guess the brigade uses the 116th regimental motto as well. Kges1901 (talk) 15:40, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
Would you consider assessing the issues here and putting in your thoughts? Buckshot06 (talk) 07:09, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
DYK for 116th Infantry Regiment (United States)
[edit]On 21 May 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 116th Infantry Regiment (United States), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the US Army's 116th Infantry Regiment received battle honors for fighting against the United States? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/116th Infantry Regiment (United States). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, 116th Infantry Regiment (United States)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hi again. I just did a major expansion/rewrite of a former stub article, Amet-khan Sultan. It's very long now and has many sources. I have never done a featured article nomination before but noticed you do a lot of featured and good article nominations. I can't quite figure out the whole process, so do you think you could do the nomination on my behalf as a not-so-wiki-savy-person? It's one of the longest Hero of the Soviet Union articles and he remains one of the most celebrated ones in addition to being one of the top allied flying aces from WWII in addition to the incredible aviation feats he conducted as a test pilot. With the relatively recent events in Crimea and the recent anniversary of the deportation Sultan becomes more relevant than ever. Think it could be a featured article? I would really like to see his article featured.--PlanespotterA320 (talk) 16:46, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- Hello, great work in expanding the stub. Instructions for GA nominations are at WP:GAN/I, it is pretty simple. For GA the article needs a citation after every paragraph, and all books need page numbers cited. For FA the warheroes citations should be replaced since its nature as a WP:SPS tends to raise concerns among reviewers. Kges1901 (talk) 21:21, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- How is warheroes a SPS? I've seen no Wikipedia attributions and the text is said to be copyrighted 100% - Wikipedia is not.--PlanespotterA320 (talk) 21:29, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- I tried to contest that when it first came up, but was unable to prove that warheroes had editorial review or were considered experts. They cite their sources, so if you can access the books they cite you can replace the warheroes citations with references to the books, then keep warheroes as an external link. However, the most important concern for GA is that the references to books do not have page numbers cited, see Wikipedia:Citing Sources for some templates that can make this more efficient (I recommend using short foot notes to include the page numbers). Kges1901 (talk) 21:37, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- Well, rats about the page numbers. I HATE those books that don't have page numbers in them :(, I guess I take care of it later then. I think it should at least be B-class, at least for now?--PlanespotterA320 (talk) 23:37, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- If the book does not have a page number you can just use the chapter instead; reviewers will probably accept that as sufficient. It is definitely B-class right now. Kges1901 (talk) 23:47, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- I can do chapter, just not pages. Thanks, I will probably fix the sources later sometime. Could you please fix the assesment? I don't want anyone to think it is an "example" of a start-class article.--PlanespotterA320 (talk) 01:00, 23 May 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.11 25 May 2018
[edit]ACTRIAL:
- WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.
Deletion tags
- Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.
Backlog drive:
- A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.
Editathons
- There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.
Paid editing - new policy
- Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.
Subject-specific notability guidelines
- The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
- Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
Not English
- A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.
News
- Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.
- The next issue of The Signpost has been published. The newspaper is one of the best ways to stay up to date with news and new developments. between our newsletters.
