Sex Pistols in Helsinki[edit]

GA[edit]

Can you just outline the problems instead of telling me its in-universe. It's a fictional laboratory so how can I get out-of-universe info if it's in the games and there is no out-of-universe info...the construction section tells who built it and what the story is like. How can I get information on who else built it if all the info is from the game and in the game? LOTRrules (talk) 17:57, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Typhoon 2[edit]

I have nominated Typhoon 2, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Typhoon 2. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 23:42, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sigh... Heather[edit]

I'm tired of this kid that keeps changing her name back and forth. I know you provided the link from CNN but I'm not convinced that they simply didn't compound the mistake from the back of the box. I can't seem to find anything from the mouths of those involved in the game saying her last name, they just say 'Heather'.

Can you help me look for something a little more definitive? Also, do you know how to get articles semi-protected? That might at least retard this kid until we can find proof.

This is such a mundane thing and I can't stand it. The guy doesn't seem to understand the verifiability rules. Am I being unreasonable here? --Thaddius (talk) 18:04, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Sh5logo.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sh5logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:03, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Saw October 2008 Newsletter[edit]

The WikiProject Saw Newsletter
Issue IV - October 2008
Member news
  • The project has currently 29 members.
From the Members

Welcome to the fourth issue of the WikiProject Saw's newsletter! Use this newsletter as a mechanism to inform yourselves about progress at the project and please be inspired to take more active roles in what we do.

Another year, and another Saw. The penultimate(?) entry to the series, Saw V, will becoming out in less than two weeks.

We would encourage all members to get more involved and if you are wondering what with, please ask. CyberGhostface 18:17, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pages Needing Cleanup
Monthly Collaboration
  • Perhaps for the remainder of this month (and the next couple of ones) we can work on Saw V's article. I have a feeling once the film comes out the page will be filled to the brim with information, a lot of which could be trimmed. The other film articles could use some work as well.
Newsletter Challange
  • Important Right now the biggest challenge is to save List of traps in the Saw film series from deletion. There are two things that can be done. First you can go to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of traps in the Saw film series (3rd nomination) and voice your argument as to why it should be kept. Important: read over Wikipedia:Arguments to avoid in deletion discussions. Saying stuff like "Saw rules, it should be kept" will not help at all. Just as important: improving the article so it has a fighting chance. I.E. Focus less on plot of the films but more "real world" information...I.E. the traps' impact on popular culture, reception they may have received, cited comparisions and allusions to actual devices (just pulling comparisions out of thin air would be original research.
  • Try to make the character articles more encyclopedic by making them less in-universe. See Jigsaw and Amanda's articles for guidance. Also see Jason Voorhees, which is a featured article. (Obviously there is more information on Jason available than the Saw characters, but it is worth looking at to see what's considered the best of the best.) Because of the nature of the series, poorly written articles could be considered 'deletion-bait' and 'cruft'...the better written the articles, the less likely this would happen.
  • Some of the plot articles seem to be overtly long. Without bowdlerizing them, maybe we could try to make them a bit shorter and concise.
  • Try to invite more members to this project. If you know any Saw fans who are good with computers, invite them to Wikipedia. The more the merrier.

--CyberGhostface (talk) 20:52, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, you probably shouldn't participate in the AFD now...apparently notifying you because you were interested is against the rules.--CyberGhostface (talk) 23:46, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Silent Hill characters[edit]

Hi. Just wondered, what constitutes notability with regard to characters having separate articles in the Silent Hill series? For instance, Travis Grady redirects to List of Silent Hill characters, but others do not. I ask because specifically, the article Alex Shepherd (Silent Hill), whilst obviously full of issues, doesn't (and I suspect, will never) do anything that the Homecoming article doesn't already do - the plot section specifically seems to be just a ridiculously bloated version of the comparatively slimline Homecoming article plot. I'd remove the plot from it, but there wouldn't be much left, except a trivia section, hence my original question; should it be nominated for deletion? SynergyBlades (talk) 04:54, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Maria (Silent Hill) and Alex Shepherd (Silent Hill) to start with, as these are two that clearly just retell the plot and add nothing over the game articles for the games in which they appear. SynergyBlades (talk) 17:33, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Alex Shepherd.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Alex Shepherd.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. Silent Hill: Origins[edit]

I swear every time I begin tweaking a Silent Hill article, you show up to assist! ;) Do you happen to own the game? The plot could do with some nice quotes, but not having bought or played it myself, nor being able to find a transcript online, I have no way to do so. SynergyBlades (talk) 04:56, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thanks a lot for that, should help overcome that obstacle. It surprises me you have an interest in Silent Hill and its articles without actually owning any or playing most of them; would you consider yourself a fan of the series regardless, and what draws you to it on Wikipedia? SynergyBlades (talk) 05:13, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please Explain[edit]

Hi, could you please explain how citing a major magazine amounts to "original research"? These magazines have been sitting on a sales shelf for nearly a week now. How is this my original research? I got all the information from the article. Thanks.VatoFirme (talk) 02:17, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wait. Do you want proof that the magazine is real, or are you asking me to scan in the article itself. Because I wouldn't do that even if the magazine came out a year ago. Something about that sounds like it would violate copyright. But I can take some more pictures of the cover and table of contents if you wish, if all you're looking for is evidence that I didn't make a fake Nintendo Power or something. Thanks.VatoFirme (talk) 02:32, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Here ya go bud, another snap, showing both covers: http://img23.imageshack.us/my.php?image=snap2oyt.jpg. And here's the TOC: http://img23.imageshack.us/my.php?image=snap1eyq.jpg. If you're still not convinced then that's fine, wait until you buy one for yourself. I'm not going to upload content from inside the magazine.
However just as far as wikipedia is concerned, I still think you cited the wrong policy. It's not original research, I got it directly from a primary source and I didn't add my own interpretation or anything to it. The issue would be more to do with other people being able to verify the information, right? I'm just trying to accurately understand the policies. Thanks!VatoFirme (talk) 02:50, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, what's up. Nope, every single thing I wrote came directly from the May Nintendo Power, the article is ten pages long and quite thorough. No combat - you do get flares though, you can keep the monsters at bay - the theme this time is ice, so anything warm scares them off. And of course if a monster grabs you, you can waggle them off with the wiimote. I was skeptical at first because I did enjoy the fighting in previous games even though it was clunky, but we'll see.VatoFirme (talk) 15:31, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Saw September 2009 Newsletter[edit]

The WikiProject Saw Newsletter
Issue V - September 2009
Member news
  • The project has currently 31 members, a mere 2 member growth over last year :( encourage new members!
From the Members

Welcome to the fifth issue of the WikiProject Saw's newsletter! Use this newsletter as a mechanism to inform yourselves about progress at the project and please be inspired to take more active roles in what we do.

It happens once a year... the Friday before Halloween... yes, the sixth Saw is less than a month away from release. Seeing as there is already a director and writers attached (See Here), VI will most likely not be the final entry to the series. Saw VI will be released in theaters on October 23rd.

Also, a Saw first, a video game is coming to join the Saw family. Not based on any movie in particular, the game has an original story set between the first and second Saw films. The game will release alongside Saw VI in October.

We would encourage all members to get more involved and if you are wondering what with, please ask either user CyberGhostface or user GroundZ3R0 002, they are more than happy to direct your help into any part of Saw that needs it.

Article News
  • The Saw (video game) article has reached a 'C' class on the quality scale for all Wikiprojects that has it in their scope. A new high for upcoming Saw products and upcoming video games in general.
  • Saw VI has received an official plot synopsis which has been incorporated in the article.
  • The amount of articles in the scope Wikiproject Saw has greatly increased from roughly 23 (active) articles to 40, almost double in one year!
Pages Needing Cleanup
  • Seeing as how we lost List of traps in the Saw film series, we must form together to prevent the other articles getting the same treatment.
  • All real-life actors or directors associated with Saw (James Wan, Tim Palen, Tobin Bell) could use an overhaul to avoid "in-universe" writing perspectives.
  • Saw VI could always use formatting updates and touch-ups to grammar, punctuation, etc.
Monthly Collaboration
  • Not a big surprise, we need to focus on getting the Saw VI article up to par with the rest of the articles. Obviously because it has not been released, it won't be possible to make it as good as the other film articles, but it could still be improved. Try to make its article in the same format (Plot, Cast, Production, Promotion, etc.) as the other films for a start.
Newsletter Challenge
  • Update all Saw articles to include updated information referencing other Saw articles. For example, update the Saw (2004 film) article section on the Saw game for updated release and info.
  • Create an "Impact In Popular Culture" section on Saw articles, seeing as how it is the highest grossing horror franchise in history (before and after inflation).
  • As noted above, the Saw Wikiproject has only grown by two members in an entire calendar year. So, invite new members, show them the ways, and let them know how they can help.
  • The Saw Wikiproject has encountered a drought as far as updates and new information goes. Keep adding new Saw articles as they go along, give new information, and keep the page going in general.

Saw[edit]

Hello there, I noticed you are a member of the Saw task force, and therefore have foreknowledge of the Saw series, making you an editor with qualifications to review an article under the scope of Saw. I hope am I not bothering your editing, but I would like to bring to your attention that List of Saw media is currently being reviewed for a possible featured list status, but there is currently a major backlog in the amount of articles waiting to be reviewed. I would like to encourage you to participate in the discussion, found here, if you are interested. If you believe I am disrupting your editing or that my message was an attempt to sway your opinions per WP:Canvas, please let me know so I may fix my methods of bringing this conversation to editors attention, I am simply trying to prevent a backlog on the WP:FLC page. Happy edits, GroundZ3R0 002 (talk) 05:41, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I usually stay away from articles on the American Mafia. Most of them, if not all, are poorly written, almost always poorly referenced or unreferenced. Thank you very much, but I'm not sure it's a reliable source and I didn't find in it any similarities between the Butcher and Pyramid Head. Halo of the Sun[edit]

If the picture is resized, like the concept art in Pyramid Head, then it will be OK, right? Take a look at the concept art and tell me. Hula Hup (talk) 23:54, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, not like this. It is a copyrighted image by nature, and is unnecessary, although pretty. Here it is being used as pure decoration with little-to-no educational value in this context. Now, it is a completely different matter, if the picture was used in the main SH article with analysis and commentary on it (like in PH). Then it might be acceptable, but not like this. If you want to illustrate the template, go right ahead, but be sure to use non-copyrighted pictures. What about fog/mist? Kaguya-chan (talk) 00:09, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
A fog/mist picture would be the same I guess, because screenshots from video games are also copyrighted. If you mean a non-copyrighted picture of a random fog/mist, I don't know, I think it would look strange. I'll think of it. Hula Hup (talk) 00:28, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gotti, which one?[edit]

Which Rico case are you looking for?

  • The American criminal justice system: how it works, how it doesn't, and how ... By Gerhard Falk pg. 92 (Gotti arrested 1984 on assualt & robbery; in 1985 on Rico charges; in 1986 he was charged with murder later aqquitted; then in 1989 on murder conspiracy of John O'Connor union boss "Gotti was found not guilty because of his hair cut" newspaper headline; there are more and more cases)
  • The Book Of John Gotti view Gotti 1985 indictment
  • Mafia Dynasty: The Rise and Fall of the Gambino Crime Family By John H. Davis pg. 321 (Gotti along with Ruggiero and Guerrieri charged with murder of John O'Connor union carpenters local 608) this murder involved the Irish gang The Westies

Sounds good The Book Of John Gotti view has that In 1985, the Gambino family was hit with indictments. You could mention in Gotti's article his brother were also indicted in the same year on drug charges (which Castellano had outlawed selling drugs in his family, with death) aswell as his mentor Dellacroce. His brothers drug case and Dellacroce death were reasons Gotti got ride of Castellano. --Vic49 (talk) 18:52, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Research into the user pages of Wikipedians: Invitation to participate[edit]

Greetings,

My name is John-Paul and I am a student with the University of Alberta specializing in Communications and Technology.

I would like to include your Wikipedia user page in a study I am doing about how people present themselves online. I am interested in whether people see themselves in different ways, online and offline. One of the things I am looking at is how contributors to Wikipedia present themselves to each other through their user pages. Would you consider letting me include your user page in my study?

With your consent, I will read and analyze your user page, and ask you five short questions about it that will take about ten to fifteen minutes to answer. I am looking at about twenty user pages belonging to twenty different people. I will be looking at all user pages together, looking for common threads in the way people introduce themselves to other Wikipedians.

I hope that my research will help answer questions about how people collaborate, work together, and share knowledge. If you are open to participating in this study, please reply to this message, on your User Talk page or on mine. I will provide you with a complete description of my research, which you can use to decide if you want to participate.

Thank-you,

John-Paul Mcvea

John Franzese Jr.[edit]

John Franzese Jr. would not pass WPCRIME, he really isn't known for a seriours crime, he is only known for becoming an informant and testifying against his father. I think it would be good to mention John Jr. in the Colombo family informants section and you can add more information about him in his father’s article (about him testifying against his father last year). --Vic49 (talk) 19:46, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good in the informant section, one question did you find any references to him being a made member in the Colombo family (since his father was powerful member in the family, John Jr. could have been made but Im not sure?) Vic49 (talk) 00:16, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Zizzo pic[edit]

Lenin, I don't known much about the WP image policies but the image of Anthony Zizzo looks like a family photo not an FBI image. I know that all FBI mugshots are free images, but local police mugshots are not. I think the image might get deleted if you upload it, you can ask Rogermax's talk page, he helps me out with images. Good luck --Vic49 (talk) 19:07, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re-Gangland subscription[edit]

I dont have a Gangland subscription but check with Rogermx.

I did find this Massino: As Mafia Boss I Had The Power Of Life & Death (April 14, 2011) its a Gangland story on a gangster bb's forum.

And also found this The Bonanno Family by Anthony Bruno on trutv "section on the murder of the three capos killed by Rizzuto, Sciascia and Massino.... Sony Black was killed for Donnie Brasco"

I'm going to find more references on what Massino said about the ruling panel members and Sonny Black taking over the family. --Vic49 (talk) 00:09, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bonanno pic[edit]

I don't have a wikicomms account can you upload the Joe Bonanno kidnapping poster view found it in the Library of Congress collection see this make the image free. Found an example of how to upload Library of Congress images here

Thanks for the help, nice work on the Massino article its looking good. --Vic49 (talk) 22:41, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Massino and Giaccone[edit]

Found a reference for Massino in crew of Giaccone's here pg. 106 in The Sixth Family: The Collapse of the New York Mafia and the Rise of Vito ... By Lee Lamothe, Adrian Humphreys. --Vic49 (talk) 23:09, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

AFD Vernace[edit]

I left my vote on the Vernace afd and tagged some poorly sourced articles with PROD's. You should check out the Mobsters TV show on Joey Massino found it on youtube part 1 part 2 part 3 --Vic49 (talk) 21:52, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ive been busy at work. I added some pics to Massino's article. Did you watch the show? I dont think it can be used as a reference but maybe a link? I was thinking about maybe trying to add to his early life section his early association with the Bonanno family being known as "Joey Wagons" with loansharking off his sandwitch wagon and working with Phill's brother what do you think? --Vic49 (talk) 01:49, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Massino's not from Connecticut[edit]

Found it vandalism on Sept 24, 2006. --Vic49 (talk) 15:55, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • In the "The Last Godfather: The Rise And Fall of Joey Massino" By Simon Crittle Massino was born on Jan. 10, 1943; and states Massino was a Queens native. Massino went into the catering business after dropping out of "Grover Cleveland High School" in Ridgewood Queens. From his lunch wagons Massino ran gambling operations.
  • In Five Families By Selwyn Raab "Massino was born in 1943, he has two brothers (Massino is the second oldest), he dropped out of "Grover Cleveland High School" after his sophomore year"
  • In THE BONANNO CRIME FAMILY'S BOSS, JOSEPH MASSINO, HIGEST RANKING NON INCARCERATED MOBSTER IN NEW YORK by MICHELE McPHEE (September 17, 2000) New York Daily News Massino's "Casablanca resturant in Maspeth, Queens and he lived in Howard Beach, Queens when he boss. --Vic49 (talk) 22:19, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re- KG[edit]

These guy Don Cuneo could also be connected?

The Massino article looks good. One problem the article puts Massino dropping out of school after seventh grade, but I found two reference's saying it was in H.S.

  • "The Last Godfather" by Simon Crittle "Massino was born on Jan. 10, 1943. Massino went into the catering business after dropping out of "Grover Cleveland High School" in Ridgewood Queens." view
  • "Five Families" by Selwyn Raab "Massino dropped out of Grover Cleveland High School after his sophomore year" p.604 --Vic49 (talk) 22:11, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Five families pg.637 has Massino closing social clubs.
Found it The Mafia Encyclopedia By Carl Sifakis pg.306 "Massino also came up with the idea of holding mob meetings far outside New York, as far away as Mexico, France or England."--Vic49 (talk) 23:03, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Massino GAN[edit]
