Asking for help[edit]

Saw your plea at the sandbox. If looking at the source for the link in the previous sentence doesn't help, you may find Help:Link#External links useful. Or failing that follow the instructions at Template:Help me to ask one of our helpers.  —SMALLJIM  09:26, 15 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for recommendations/advice[edit]

Hi ParanoidAndroid,

Thanks for the message you left on my talk page. You were definitely right that I should have left a welcoming message explaining my reasons for the reversion I made. I get so caught up in trying to keep articles from being vandalized, or stretched out of control, I sometimes forget that there is a often well meaning person behind the changes. Thanks for reminding me of this! Caidh (talk) 20:38, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Per cent[edit]

Hi there, sorry about this but I'm not sure why it needed a "sic". The space is standard in BrE ... was it that? Otherwise please do discuss and save me from bafflement! Cheers DBaK (talk) 09:11, 8 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DBaK, sorry about that! I wasn't aware that was the standard spelling in British English; I thought it was a typo or spelling error in the source article, so that's why I added the [sic]. When I checked the MoS I didn't see any relevant rules or guidance in that section, so I figured it was simply a mistake in the original quote. Thanks for correcting it and letting me know!
On a side note, I have a question (as you clearly know more about this subject than I do): My understanding is the standard for American vs. British spelling is to pick one and keep it consistent throughout the entire article, except when the article is about one of those countries/regions and hence that variety of English should always be used (the latter would apply in the Cleveland child abuse scandal article, correct?). However, I'm not sure how to figure out when something is a mistake, as I guess I don't know all the existing differences and the Help pages I've found only provide a few examples (also, when I search for "percent" [here] in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, nowhere does it indicate that "per cent" is the standard - or even an acceptable variation - used in British English, so I'd have no way of knowing that if I didn't already know it). Is there a Help page that has a complete list of those differences so I won't make this sort of mistake again, or do you know of some other source I can use to determine whether something is a spelling mistake or just a spelling difference? Thanks! LibertyOrDeath (talk) 20:45, 8 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Note to everyone above[edit]

For some reason, I just discovered all of the above Talk messages left here! I had my preferences set to notify me when I receive a new message on my User Talk page, but obviously something went wrong or wasn't working up to now. I also completely forgot I had signed up for the Wikipedia:Feedback request service (and was quite confused when I initially saw all those messages on my page just now) and now I have a whole bunch cluttering up my Talk page. I'm not sure if it's okay to simply remove them (as I believe all the RfCs are closed now) since they were left by a bot and it was a voluntary thing, not a warning or notification about an edit of mine. Since the messages from actual users are months old (excluding the most recent one, which is what brought me here today), I'm not sure if I should bother responding to them now, especially since I'm guessing those people will either no longer be watching my Talk page, or will not remember what the original message was about and have to spend time re-reading and possibly visiting other pages/links and such. Sorry to everyone who left a message up to this point - I wasn't ignoring you, I just wasn't being notified about the messages! LibertyOrDeath (talk) 20:57, 8 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You've been unsubscribed from the Feedback Request Service[edit]

Hi Paranoid Android 2600!! You're receiving this notification because you were previously subscribed to the Feedback Request Service, but you haven't made any edits to the English Wikipedia in over three years.

In order to declutter the Feedback Request Service list, and to produce a greater chance of active users being randomly selected to receive invitations to contribute, you've been unsubscribed, along with all other users who have made no edits in three years or more.

You do not need to do anything about this - if you are happy to not receive Feedback Request Service messages, thank you very much for your contributions in the past, and this will be the last you hear from the service. If, however, you would like to resubscribe yourself, you can follow the below instructions to do so:

  1. Go to the Feedback Request Service page.
  2. Decide which categories are of interest to you, under the RfC and/or GA headings.
  3. Paste {{Frs user|Paranoid Android 2600!|limit}} underneath the relevant heading(s), where limit is the maximum number of requests you wish to receive for that category per month.
  4. Publish the page.

If you've just come back after a wikibreak and are seeing this message, welcome back! You can follow the above instructions to re-activate your subscription. Likewise, if this is an alternate account, please consider subscribing your main account in much the same way.

Note that if you had a rename and left your old name subscribed to the FRS, you may be receiving this message on your new username's talk page still. If so, make sure your new account name is subscribed to the FRS, using the same procedure mentioned above.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on the Feedback Request Service talk page, or on the Feedback Request Service bot's operator's talk page. Thank you! Message delivered to you with love by Yapperbot :) | Is this wrong? Contact my bot operator. | Sent at 19:40, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
