M.A. O'Donoghue, you are invited to the Teahouse

[edit]

Hi Roger Dodger!

I'm about to get started on working the suggestions you mentioned re garding documentation of my sources so my story can be approved.

I had a question though regarding documenting recorded interviews. Some of my information was based on fist hand interviews of priary sources.

How can that be listed for Wikipedia?

Mike

News Story Rejected

[edit]

To Whom It May Concern

I recently had a potential news story regarding the history of the Burbank Chorale & Burbank Choral Club rejected because the sources could not be adequately supported.

I needed to let the editors know that the sources I cited for my story can properly supported.

While none of the news materials cited in the article in question are from any major national news magazines or news outlets, one of the main newspapers that is often cited in my article, the Burbank Leader, is owned by the Los Angeles Times. I can also provide original local newspaper clippings dating back to 1920 if needed. In addition, there is numerous mention of the Burbank Choral Club listed in several trade periodicals from the 1940s and early 1950s as well.

The Gordon R. Howard Museum, which houses many of the physical artifacts and records from the Burbank Chorale & Burbank Choral Club, is the same museum that houses several artifacts from known aviation pioneers like Amelia Earhart and Charles Lindbergh. This same museum also has numerous artifacts from Lockheed Aerospace Corporation and other local aviation related companies as well.

Here is the web site for the Burbank Historical Society that manages the Gordon R. Howard Museum:

http://www.burbankhistoricalsoc.org/hours-location/

As previously stated the original source materials related to the Burbank Chorale cited in the rejected article are all genuine, and I would be very happy to provide any supporting proof as requested by Wikipedia. Theses supporting documents may not be from as well known sources, but they do meet the same requirements for provenance as any well known choral group like the Mormon Tabernacle Choir or the Vienna Boy's Choir would have to adhere to. Any further materials that Wikipedia would like to see to verify the provenance of the choir's supporting documents can be furnished on request.

Below is the link regarding the article in question.

Again, thanks for reconsidering your decision.

Hi Rodger!

Thanks for getting back to me on how to improve the chances for being approved for submission to Wikipedia.

I'll see what I can do to have the exact information regarding citing news paper sources when I resubmit the story. The issue is that many of these stories were clipped from news papers and pasted in scap books about 50-70 years ago. I'll do what I can though.

I'll also find out from the museum the collection catalog index number, or what other indexing system they use to keep track of archival materials too. Do you have only one kind of index system you accept, or is there some leeway on that subject?

In regards to CDs and DVDs, yes, the chorale has produced numerous CDs over the years, and several DVDs over the last few concert seasons. The CDs and DVDs are self-published, would that ever be an issue regarding authentication of sources?

The videos are on the web at the following sites:

Vimeo: http://vimeo.com/user3254339/videos

Open Film: http://www.openfilm.com/users/Mikodie

Youtube.Com http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=%22Burbank+Chorale%22

Again, thanks for your help on this matter. I'll get you the information you are looking for very soon.

Mike O'Donoghue

PS, Where in SA are you? I have a friend in Pretoria, another in Jo'Burg, and I dated a Southie from Capetown

When you reference a news article please provide complete details; article title, writer's name, page number in addition to the name of the paper and the date.

For the museum references please provide further detail such as collection catalogue index numbers. The article should also contain some information about the museum collection itself as it related to choir. Has the choir ever made any records/CDs?
