Nomination for deletion of Template:Recipients of the John B. Fenn Award for a Distinguished Contribution in Mass Spectrometry

[edit]

Template:Recipients of the John B. Fenn Award for a Distinguished Contribution in Mass Spectrometry has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for discussion page.

Hi,

I think that the recently creasted (2018) Template:Recipients of the John B. Fenn Award for a Distinguished Contribution in Mass Spectrometry is redundant with the previously existing Template:Recipients of the Distinguished Contribution in Mass Spectrometry Award. I suggest to delete the new template, and to rename (move) the old template. Kind regards. Ileresolu (talk) 08:30, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for spotting this! Please go ahead and delete the new template and rename the old template. MagnusPalmblad (talk) 10:28, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Template:Recipients of the John B. Fenn Award for a Distinguished Contribution in Mass Spectrometry requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is not actually the same as the other template noted, please consider putting a note on the template's page explaining how this one is different so as to avoid any future mistakes.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. --woodensuperman 10:21, 9 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Svante Arrhenius Medal moved to draftspace

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to Svante Arrhenius Medal. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:05, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Josh,
Thank you for your feedback. What kind of sources would best establish notability? The medal is awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (https://www.kva.se/priser/medaljer/ - unfortunately not available in English). While not as notable as some of their other prizes (e.g. the Nobel Prizes in Physics and Chemistry), it is certainly known in the field of chemistry, where I am active. The most recent recipient (this year) was Per Siegbahn (https://www.kva.se/nyheter/pressinbjudan-vetenskapsakademien-delar-ut-arets-priser/). My initial motivation for creating this and the related page on the Arrhenius Plaque was actually that these two awards are sometimes confused, so I thought it would be good to have a short Wikipedia entry for each.
The Svante Arrhenius Medal is mentioned on the Swedish-language page for the academy, but not (yet) on the English page. I suppose this and several other of their medals and prizes are better known in Sweden than abroad, since they are primarily awarded to Swedish scientists, or scientists active in Sweden (unlike the Nobel Prize).
Most newspaper articles would be about individual recipients, and most of these would be in Swedish, which I realize may not help much with proving international notability.

As an aside - the funds for the medal comes from the Foundation for Svante Arrhenius Memorial Medal Fund (Swedish: Stiftelsen Svante Arrhenius minnesmedaljfond). There is no monetary prize, but I suppose there are some costs associated with producing the physical medal in gold. MagnusPalmblad (talk) 20:45, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
