Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Devoninspiration! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot notifying you on behalf of the the unreferenced biographies team that 1 of the articles that you created is currently tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 698 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Friday at the Nobody Inn

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Friday at the Nobody Inn, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Help questions

[edit]

{{helpme}} Thanks! I would like to change my user name. It was originally just a nickname but later I used it as a business name and I therefore thinks this is against user name policy as it a) could be seen as promotional and b) identifies me directly (I have the URL). I tried to figure it out by looking at the WP:Changing_username page, but I couldn't determine how to get on the list to request a bureaucrat to make the change. Can you please point me in the right direction?

My next question is that I want to add citations to a page that I created in June 2007 (Andy Hobsbawm). It's marked for deletion stating it may not meet the notability guideline, but I believe I can gather up enough citations to warrant keeping the page. However, as you can see below I had a few other pages deleted in the past. I had thought as published authors they would be considered notable, but I realize this is incorrect and I have no objections to those pages being deleted. My concern is that my mistakes from 2007 will impact any decisions on Andy Hobsbawm's page if I'm the one to make the edits. I used to work at the company where the subject was the chairman and later worked at the non-profit he started, but that was a few years ago. I will certainly disclose this on the article's discussion page, but I don't think any COI exists; I of course will remain neutral and I don't believe there is anything contentious on the page - I think the facts just need substantiation. However, if you think I should not edit this page or that it will be deleted if I'm the one to make the edits, or because I'm in the process of changing my username, then I certainly will not proceed ahead. Can you please give me some advice on how to proceed? Thank you! Devoninspiration (talk) 16:19, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Username change - you need to follow the instructions on the page Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple, where it explains exactly how to add the request. Please try that, and if you have problems, please ask for further help (see below).
There is no problem with you continuing to edit while the namechange is listed; once you notice this page name has changed, you should log out, and back in with the new name. Your previous contributions will be moved across automatically.
Referencing - All 'live' articles have to meet a minimum standard of 'notability', please see WP:VRS and WP:GNG. What we're looking for is coverage in independent reliable sources, such as newspapers. Simply writing a book (or whatever) does not make a person 'notable' - for notability, we'd need to see evidence of other people writing about the publication.
With regards to the potential conflict of interest - firstly, thanks very much for being up-front about it, and yes, please continue to do so. If you are concerned that something might be contentious or problematic, then please request the change on the articles talk page, instead of editing the article directly; if you put a suggestion on the talk page, please put {{request edit}} - that will alert others to consider the request. You may also wish to read through WP:BESTCOI.

For help with any of the above, I suggest you might visit live help.

If you have problems with that, or with anything else, of course feel free to use another {{helpme}} right here. Best,  Chzz  ►  16:37, 29 August 2010 (UTC) Thanks for the help, and for replying so quickly! Devoninspiration (talk) 16:41, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Andy Hobsbawm has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The article has been tagged as "written like an advertisement", which it certainly is, since Oct 2012, and nothing has been done about it. Time to delete. Wikipedia is not for advertising.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
