Hi. Thanks very much for offering to help with mentoring. I think you'd be perfect for it. Please do go ahead and sign up on the mentors page, if you like. BDD has done so too, so we may be getting towards the point that we could promote it some. Thanks again. --Stfg (talk) 20:45, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks very much for the vote of confidence, since although I've participated in a number of GOCE drives I consider myself a seat-of-the-pants copy editor :-). All the best, Miniapolis (talk) 20:52, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
- Seat-of-the-pants is the best way, isn't it. There's such a range of challenges from beautifying serious FACs to figuring out what on earth an editor meant about a village or pop song to toning down puffery! I know you've seen it all. Thanks for offering to do this. --Stfg (talk) 22:25, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
- My pleasure. All the best, Miniapolis (talk) 23:04, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

Murder of Selena GOCE request
Hey there =) I just have two minor comments putting things in parentheses distract text flow and you have done a lot of those which is not good and it's Selena not Selina ;) Other wise thank you for picking the article for a copy-edit! Best, Jonatalk to me 02:40, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for correcting the misspelling; it's a long article (but very good), and I get a little punchy. As for the parentheses, it's a judgement call; I find long sentences with lots of commas hard to follow, and think the occasional phrase in parentheses helps keep things straight. Of course, you're free to revise anything you like :-). I hope to finish it tomorrow. All the best, Miniapolis (talk) 02:50, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

Hey! Thanks for the copyedit, but i have two minor issues: 1) The names of the singles do not go italicized, and the chart rankings are written with "No." instead of "#" per the guidelines. I will fix those as they may be a problem at FAC. All the rest is pretty good, Thanks. — ΛΧΣ21™ 01:05, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the advice; I italicized the song titles because they are Spanish (per MOS:FOREIGN). As for the chart listings, I couldn't find any guidelines one way or the other and thought they looked better with the number sign (#). Good luck with FAC and all the best, Miniapolis (talk) 01:16, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
- Ooh well that explains all hehe XD Well, about the number sign (#) i was asked to removed it when the article was a good article nominee. The reviewer showes me the guideline but i don't remember where that is. Anyways, you made a great job there and i'm completely glad and happy. Thank you for taking care of it :) — ΛΧΣ21™ 04:37, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

Mentoring
Hello! I am a pretty new member of Wikipedia and I would love to become better at copy editing! Can you mentor me? Thanks! AFisch99 (talk) 20:36, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
- My pleasure, and welcome! The Guild of Copy Editors page is a great place to start, with many helpful links (especially "How to copy edit"). Although it seems intimidating at first glance, the Manual of Style is a comprehensive reference. If you'd like, be bold and sign up for the September backlog-reduction drive; there's still about 10 days left. I've only been active on WP for about two years (although I've had an account since 2007), and was green as grass when I found the GOCE. The first article I copyedited was a 13,000-word article on the requests page, and I didn't know you could edit an article in sections. Took me about eight solid hours, and nobody has that kind of time :-). Let me know how else I can help. All the best, Miniapolis (talk) 21:02, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
