Speedy deletion nomination of User:Mister Hollis Cash
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on User:Mister Hollis Cash, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
- It appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free Web hosting service. (See section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion.)
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. - @QueerEcofeminist: Thank you for your feedback. This is (was) indeed my first article, but I wasn't under the impression that my User Page was considered anything other than a page that allowed other folks here in the community to understand who I was. This article, like Wikipedia itself, was an ongoing process of development which started with a draft that I'd not yet completed. The details I listed about myself were not designed to be advertising or promotion, but rather to add some context and credibility regarding my experience and interests. All of which, I presumed, would be helpful in directing me to where certain articles or projects might need attention or assistance. And there appears to be a fair amount of need for that, no? Now, all of the time and energy I put into learning on my own user page has been swiftly marked for deletion without first giving me the benefit of doubt or the opportunity to learn how to improve my draft. Would it not be more productive and less deflating to point out to us new users what specifically could be corrected before issuing a recommendation for deletion? I'm sure there are plenty who nefariously violate the policies here, but there are also plenty who are genuinely interested and simply wish to help. Speedy deletion nomination of User:Mister Hollis Cash/sandbox
[edit]A tag has been placed on User:Mister Hollis Cash/sandbox requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

[edit]Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add promotional or advertising material to Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 06:50, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- @ToBeFree: To refer to my sandbox edits as âdisruptiveâ seems a tad unnecessarily harsh. Iâve not asked for a review of my sandbox and was using it for what I understood it to be: a place for me to test out features and concepts before attempting to go liveâin short, a sandbox. So, I wasnât aware that I was disrupting anyone. As a new user, and someone who is keen on helping, it might be more productive to send a note quickly pointing out what Iâve done wrong and how I might correct. To threaten me with being banned for somehow misunderstanding the use of the sandbox on my first days of usage feels to be itself in violation of the spirit and intent of this community that was built around people helping people get smarter. I can appreciate that itâs a tough job policing all the activities here, but there must be a more respectful way to encourage us newbies, no? Mister Hollis Cash (talk) 09:53, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Mister Hollis Cash, you had been reported as "spam/advertising only" at WP:AIV and I chose to warn and remove the report instead of blocking the account. Per Wikipedia:Blocking_policy#Disruption-only, "accounts that appear, based on their edit history, to exist for the sole or primary purpose of promoting a person, company, product, service, or organization" "are considered disruptive and may be blocked without warning, usually indefinitely". It may not have looked like this, but it was the friendlier of two possible approaches. Best regards, ~ ToBeFree (talk) 12:14, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Mister Hollis Cash. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 06:50, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- @ToBeFree: Thank you for your welcome. Per my reply to your previous post on this matter, what I devised in my sandbox was designed to be âdraft materialâ to learn the features and capabilities of Wikipedia in a safe space, with a subject that I know. Until it is moved into the live environment or a review is requested, I understood that this was precisely the purpose of the space. As for the actual content, before I would edit an article that violates the policies of Wikipedia, I would have began a discussion on that articleâs talk page. My interest in the article in my sandbox stems from recognizing that this page needs a bit of structural work and some assistance in improving itâs quality. I believe itâs natural for us to recognize this initially in matters we are most familiar with. I would help by offering references in the articleâs talk page to assist others in making these edits. It has been my intention to be a fruitful and valuable member of this communityâIâd hoped that Iâd be given the benefit of the doubt in that. Mister Hollis Cash (talk) 09:54, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Mister Hollis Cash, self-promotion may be deleted anywhere on Wikipedia, including sandboxes. The community has authorized speedy deletion of such content per the policy at WP:U5 and WP:G11 in response to persistent misuse of the encyclopedia for self-promotion. Best regards, ~ ToBeFree (talk) 12:17, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hi ~ ToBeFree, thank you sincerely for the response. I genuinely appreciate the intent of your kinder approach here, but, I'm still a tad confused about the use of the sandbox. If I'm staging content to work with until I'm ready to have it reviewed or posted, how is it subject to review or other outside action beforehand? In short, how are we supposed to work out the usage of Wikipedia if not in the sandbox? Again, thanks kindly. Mister Hollis Cash (talk) 12:28, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- Mister Hollis Cash, I generally agree that sandboxes are for testing and usually not subject to this kind of early action. However, let's focus on the underlying issue. You appear to have a close connection to the article subject(s), so there is a conflict of interest when writing about the person(s). The easiest way to test Wikipedia's editing tools and syntax is to create a page about something you have no such connection to. This could be "Lorem Ipsum", "Example" or Sokrates. The official website of Lorem Ipsum could be example.org. Lorem Ipsum is a non-profit organization that donates Example to people in the country Examplistan.
- Also, it might be helpful to honestly ask oneself why the draft was created in the first place. To me, the only reason for creating such a draft is to move it to the live environment one day. WP:G11 exists to delete content before this happens. It reduces the amount of time spent on creating unsuitable content and encourages you to invest time into more helpful projects. For example, instead of creating an article as the first step on Wikipedia, I strongly recommend improving existing articles. See the Task Center and the community portal for ideas that actually benefit the encyclopedia.
- Best regards,
