Altered speedy deletion rationale: User:Morriswa/GA by number list

Hello Morriswa. I am just letting you know that I deleted User:Morriswa/GA by number list, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided, which doesn't fit the page in question. Thank you. GedUK  11:50, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for deleting that page. I never use it anymore, so I figured it should go. Allen (Morriswa) (talk) 11:56, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

Tagging and assessing files for USRD

Typically, in the past, the project hasn't tagged shield graphics or maps as part of the project. I think before you do any more, we probably should have a discussion about whether or not we want to continue or discontinue the existing practice, lest we end up with a very inconsistent hodge podge of what is or isn't tagged in the file space. Imzadi 1979  04:07, 9 July 2013 (UTC)

Understandable. However, can you refresh my poor memory about what you are referring? Thanks. Allen (Morriswa) (talk) 04:09, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
Putting {{USRD}} on the talk page for the files, like you did with File talk:I-35W (KS).svg. Imzadi 1979  04:20, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
I don't mind the tagging as much as I mind you, Allen, taking credit for "creating" the talk pages on your vanity page. –Fredddie 11:37, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
If USRD decides to start tagging graphics or maps, please make sure that everyone knows. That way, everyone can start doing that. That being said, should those "File:" namespace pages be tagged for any WikiProjects? What about the specific state/region/city/etc. that they are in? I want to help out any way that I can, but I don't want to step on anyone's toes or have another RFC opened (just want to know what, if anything, can be done). Allen (Morriswa) (talk) 05:58, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
For Michigan, I've only tagged photos. In other states so far, the only photos tagged have been used on the portal as the selected photo. That's pretty much all we have ever done so far. Just the photos used in articles that show the road, and not the maps and not the markers. If you want to change that practice, you would have to open a discussion. Imzadi 1979  06:12, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
I've removed your talkback template from WT:USRD. That template isn't really meant to be used that way.
If you want to start a conversation amongst the members of USRD, start the conversation on that page. You don't want to point them to your talk page for several reasons. 1) The resulting discussion will be put in your talk page's archives, not the archives of the WikiProject when it's done. 2) You'll get new message indications everyone time someone posts, which may mean you'd get lots of e-mails (if you have the option enabled). 3) Most of the potentially interested people won't have your talk page on their watchlist, but they would have USRD's talk page listed. YYYY-MM-DD

Just a note to make sure you are aware that YYYY-MM-DD format for accessdates & archivedates is supported per WP:DATERET & MOS:DATEUNIFY & WP:STRONGNAT, and that WP:DATERET advises not changing them from what was first established. Scripts are available to restore consistent YMD format.--JimWae (talk) 10:02, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

I did not know that there was a problem with the format of the dates. I have been using this script to correct all dates on pages. If there is some way that you and/or Ohconfucius (I don't know much about scripts) can "correct" the script, so that you are not offended, be my guest. Otherwise, I plan to continue to use it. Allen (Morriswa) (talk) 12:14, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
Allen, this is one of the reasons that RFC was started. You have to be careful when using scripts, especially when what was "fixed" was not wrong. –Fredddie 15:16, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
I was being careful when I used the AutoEd and date scripts. I had no idea that I caused any problems. I get sick and tired of being told not to use automated scripts, etc., even when I am careful. Is JimWae correct about the dates? How do I know what dates should/should not be changed? I think that script should get updated to be able to be used without much thought. Allen (Morriswa) (talk) 16:19, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
If you don't know what is correct or not, you should either leave what the script wants you to change alone or figure out what is correct before editing. If neither of those options are appealing don't use the script. That is the reason why people tell you not to use scripts, because you appear to be unable to judge when the script is operating correctly and when it is not. —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 10:17, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
In the RFC, you agreed to the following: "Before performing many automated edits, Morriswa agrees to communicate with other editors to make sure that the task is not controversial." You have clearly violated that agreement here, as you have been performing many controversial automated edits. If this continues, I can see another RFC coming, and this time it might not end so well, I hate to say. --Rschen7754 10:28, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
Am I not "supposed" to use the AutoEd tool? I stopped using the date tool because someone said something. The problems that other people have with these edits is really getting annoying. Allen (Morriswa) (talk) 10:31, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
It's clear that you do not know how to use it properly, so to be a bit blunt, no you should not be using the tool, or any tool that you do not know how to use properly. --Rschen7754 10:35, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
I know how to use it. I guess I don't know when to use it. I want to apologize for my harsh tone, but I am really annoyed at this stuff. Allen (Morriswa) (talk) 10:44, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

I think this is a gross mischaracterization. –Fredddie 16:13, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

I get annoyed because I have to spend so much time each time somebody new starts using a script that was designed to circumvent WP:DATERET & MOS:DATEUNIFY & WP:STRONGNAT. The script is the problem, it is designed to gradually eliminate YMD--JimWae (talk) 22:43, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Carefull

Please be careful when cleaning articles up using Auto Ed - Within this edit to Tropical cyclone you broke the links to the Southern Hemisphere tropical cyclone seasons by removing the coding {{#time:n}}>6 which is needed since the SHEM seasons take place over two calendar years rather than 1 year. Thanks.Jason Rees (talk) 16:36, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

Don't worry. So many other people have complained, that I disabled AutoEd. I think that tool needs a MAJOR overhaul. Allen (Morriswa) (talk) 16:49, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of bannered U.S. Routes, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Lawrence Township, New Jersey (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
