templates on firearms stubs
[edit]As you may have noticed, I've gone and reclassified a lot of stubs as Category:firearms stubs. There are scores of these articles which badly need the template you and others have added. I'd really love it if you could go about doing some more of those, and I'll contribute the same when I can. I don't have so much time anymore to work on the wikipedia, but a lot of the firearms pages desperately need attention. thanks for your contributions. Avriette 21:13, July 9, 2005 (UTC)
Polish weapons
[edit]I notice that you have added a number of Polish weapons, and a navigation box for them at Template:Template:DefWarPlInfWeaponsNav.
I also note that your navigation box has a display which differs from the links:
Display | Link |
---|---|
rifle wx.29 | Kbk wx.29 |
pistol Vis | Vis (weapon) |
HMG wz.30 | ckm wz.30 |
LMG Browning wz.1928 | Browning wz.1928 |
AT rifle wz.35 | Anti-tank rifle wz.35 |
grenade launcher wz.36 | granatnik wz.36 |
SMG Mors | pistolet maszynowy Mors |
semi automatic rifle wz.38M | Kbsp wz.38M |
As you yourself have obviously recognized, the names of the ones you have added are not the best titles for the Wikipedia articles.
These titles are in two parts; a descriptive term, and a model number, often year-based, for that type of weapon.
The Polish names and abbreviations are not well known in English, even among weapons buffs. The model numbers will be familiar to many, even with the Polish abbreviation. But few are going to know what abbrevations such as ckm and Kbsp and Kb ppanc expand to, nor the difference in meaning in them.
I suggest moving the ones you have added to new names. That will leave your original name as a redirect, able to be used by those who would use the Polish descriptive term or its Polish abbreviation, let it will in general make it more likely that these articles will be found and used.
Note especially that you have already used the option to put a better English descriptive term into your navigation templates. You already know that this is a valuable feature. However, that option is not available in the major Wikipedia navigation tool other than hyperlinks, namely categories. In a Category, what you see is the title of the Wikipedia article; using piping in entering the category only affects how it is indexed, not how it is displayed in the category. See also the discussion at Talk:Anti-tank rifle wz.35. Gene Nygaard 14:48, 14 August 2005 (UTC)
There should be a hyphen in "semi-automatic" and I have changed that one. Gene Nygaard 14:50, 14 August 2005 (UTC)
- No, unfortunately Gene cannot be simply ignored. The guy stands on a position that all Polish weapons were in fact named in English and that the proper name of all those guns was simply the "wz. XX" part, while the rest was but a description and should be ignored. Although so far he failed to provide any evidence to support his cause, he's been revert warring and doing lots of nasty things at Talk:Anti-tank rifle wz.35. Take a look for yourself and take part in the discussion if you can ;)
- I don't know if anything can be done about it. Most surely he'll invent some English names for the stubs you created and move them to the names he likes, regardless of the fact that he'll be the only man in the world to use them. What can be done against it? I'm afraid nothing, sadly. If I were you, I would simply correct the template to use the shortened names of the weapons and create as many redirects as you seem fit. - No, taki on nasz jak wiele innych...
Halibutt 11:12, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for finding Colt .32 1903 image
[edit]Eventually, we'll get all the imageless firearms articles covered. Every little bit helps... Thanks. Georgewilliamherbert 19:38, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
Hello. You put {{NCT}} on several images that are not on Commons with that name. For instance, Image:1894 mannlicher6.sized.jpg, Image:1894 mannlicher5.sized.jpg, and Image:1894 barrel.sized.jpg. No problem, I just wanted to let you know. Have a great day, – Quadell (talk) (bounties) 16:19, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Cześć. Zapraszam cię do Wikipedia:WikiProject Silesia.
Thank you for moving KGP-6 to KGP-9. I misread the name from my source while I was writing the article. When I reread the source today I noticed my mistake and went to change it, only to find you had done it for me. Thank you again.--LWF 02:40, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Jaki problem teraz? Koalorka (talk) 19:06, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
Koalorka (talk) 12:44, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
- Obowiazuje te same reguly stylistyczne. Koalorka (talk) 14:09, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
From the MoS:
"Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed., 12.32: Syntax, punctuation, and capitalization. A caption may consist of a word or two, an incomplete or a complete sentence, several sentences, or a combination. No punctuation is needed after a caption consisting solely of an incomplete sentence. If one or more full sentences follow it, each (including the opening phrase) has closing punctuation. In a work in which most captions consist of full sentences, even incomplete ones may be followed by a period for consistency. Sentence capitalization is recommended in all cases except for the formal titles of works of art." Koalorka (talk) 15:50, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
Koalorka (talk) 17:09, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
