Notability of Dene Grigar
Hey @Nicnote:,
I disagree that there are notability issues with this page. The scholar's significant research has been cited (major journals and a book with MIT Press), and a number of NEH grants she has successfully completed have also been listed and appropriately referenced.
He curatorial work with major bodies like the Library of Congress and Modern Language association have been appropriately referenced, as have her artistic contributions to major publications.
Not sure what else would be required to establish Grigar's notability?
Thanks!
- Hello! Thank you for creating Dene Grigar! I tagged it with a notability tag because I don't think she meets WP:NACADEMIC (Please have a read). I may be wrong, and I will take some time to research this further, however I am busy in real life so it may take a while. The main thing you need to prove is that the person had a significant impact in their scholarly discipline. Such as a high-level award, etc. Let me know what you think and if what I say makes sense/is fair to you. Best, Nicnote • ask me a question • contributions 22:26, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Nicnote: Grigar certainly does meet the WP:NACADEMIC guidelines. I think that the fact she is president of the field's main community body, the Electronic Literature Organization, is evidence of significant impact in their scholarly discipline. Again, being invited to curate for the Library of Congress etc all point to major impact, more so than any award. --OutmianYakta (talk) 23:25, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Nicnote: I've added her Lifetime Achievement Award from the IMDAa to her bio, so can we go ahead and resolve this issue re notability? Thank you! OutmianYakta (talk) 16:41, 13 May 2017 (UTC)
- @OutmianYakta: Sorry for the delay in replying - I've been busy in real life. I really appreciate you taking the time to find more sources and improve the article, rather than being patronising and shouting at me. I have removed the tag. Again, thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia and let me know if you need anything in the future. Best, Nicnote • ask me a question • contributions 18:05, 13 May 2017 (UTC)

- @Balaharimurthy: Hi, I honestly don't remember your version of the page, but I imagine that this new one adheres to the rules of Wikipedia better, maybe User:Razer2115 can weigh in on this. Is this new page identical to the one you proposed? Nicnote • ask me a question • contributions 08:59, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
Whatsoever why you tagged Speedy deletion before I am updating.. Is this fair..??
- @Balaharimurthy: I don't mean to WP:BITE you, but the mainspace is not the place for experimenting, please use your draft space rather than publishing incomplete articles and expecting them not to be deleted. Also please stop trouting me, it wasn't a silly mistake you just published an article that didn't state why the voice actor was important enough to deserve a Wikipedia article and after a certain amount of time two editors decided to mark it for deletion. New Page Review - Newsletter No.4
Since rolling out the right in November, just 6 months ago, we now have 805 reviewers, but the backlog is still mysteriously growing fast. If every reviewer did just 55 reviews, the 22,000 backlog would be gone, in a flash, schwoop, just like that!
But do remember: Rather than speed, quality and depth of patrolling and the use of correct CSD criteria are essential to good reviewing. Do not over-tag. Make use of the message feature to let the creator know about your maintenance tags. See the tutorial again HERE. Get help HERE.

Speedy deletion declined: Crater Face (film)
Hello Nicnote. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Crater Face (film), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Having been created by a notable person indicates importance/significance (WP:CCSI#WEB). I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Powdair, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Subject might be important/significant (see also Google News/Books hits for this subject) / use WP:PROD or WP:AFD instead to allow other editors to participate in this decision. h3h3
hi. you deleted my change where I noted that h3h3 moved from Israel to LA first, then NYC, then back to LA. It's noted in a number of their youtube videos, such as this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21XQcZp4eGI. So they moved to LA from Israel in April 2015 (video was uploaded May 1 2015). The h3h3 videos on both their main channel and Ethan and Hila are all taken in LA, California, and even a few in Las Vegas. And then in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlLq8PY9mQ8, you can see that they moved to NYC in September 2015. And again, their following videos are clearly NYC. It wasn't until this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10BxccZP1kE&t, that they moved from NYC and back to LA in August 2016. There are plenty of references to prove all this. thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jacobsonrl (talk • contribs) 15:52, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

@Sagecandor:Yup. Make sure you're over the threshold. Also Wikipedia:Page mover might be useful to you right now. I would apply for that first if you think it would help Wikipedia, it doesn't hurt. If you get turned away (as I did requesting rollback) you'll have constructive criticism from the admins at WP:PERM. Nicnote • ask me a question • contributions 22:48, 14 June 2017 (UTC)
- Eh that's okay, I like leaving redirects. So for the first one, should I wait for 25 or 26 ? Sagecandor (talk) 22:54, 14 June 2017 (UTC)
- @Sagecandor: On the safe side 26 given the deletions, but if they're all the same standard as the article that I reviewed then you should be fine. Again, this is just a base line to give people an idea of what is expected when applying for the permission. Would strongly suggest going for Page mover first as you have a huge amount of moves and the 'not leaving a redirect' is only an option that you may/may not want to use. What you have to remember is that Permisions are not trophies, they're just ways of being able to contribute to the project, but also making everyone else's job easier. Page mover removes crappy redirects that are a pain to sort out for others and Autopat is about reducing the workload for New Page Patrollers. As long as you come in with that frame of mind, you should sail through. Nicnote • ask me a question • contributions 23:04, 14 June 2017 (UTC)

Issuing warnings to miscreant editors is not rude
Hello, I'm 32.218.43.141. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, it's important to be mindful of the feelings of your fellow editors, who may be frustrated by certain types of interaction, such as your addition to User talk:32.218.43.141. While you probably didn't intend any offense, please do remember that Wikipedia strives to be an inclusive atmosphere. In light of that, it would be greatly appreciated if you could moderate yourself so as not to offend. Making gratuitous patronizing comments on user talk pages is rude. 32.218.43.141 (talk) 18:30, 15 June 2017 (UTC)

- Hello, I saw the recent warning template that you put on User:SWP13's talkpage. As I stated in the edit summary, please read the warning template - it clearly states that you should not edit war even if you think you are right. Please talk this out civilly rather than resorting to these templates. Thank you, Nicnote • ask me a question • contributions 23:26, 14 June 2017 (UTC)

- I think you are putting words into my mouth. I never said that it was a policy, only that you should read it since that is the widespread norm. Quite a few users have a 'don't template me' message on their talkpage because it is considered rude that you can't even put in enough effort to respond to an established user's actions with your own words. ArbCom 2017 election voter message
Hello, Nicnote. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)
ANI Experiences survey
The Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative (led by the Safety and Support and Anti-Harassment Tools team) is conducting a survey for en.wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with the Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. This survey will be integral to gathering information about how this noticeboard works - which problems it deals with well, and which problems it struggles with.
The survey should take 10-20 minutes to answer, and your individual responses will not be made public. The survey is delivered through Google Forms. The privacy policy for the survey describes how and when Wikimedia collects, uses, and shares the information we receive from survey participants and can be found here:
If you would like to take this survey, please sign up on this page, and a link for the survey will be mailed to you via Special:Emailuser.
Please be aware this survey will close Friday, Dec. 8 at 23:00 UTC.

- Currently the backlog stretches back to March and some pages in the backlog have passed the 90 day Google index point. Please consider reviewing some of them!
Outreach and Invitations:
- If you know other editors with a good understanding of Wikipedia policy, invite them to join NPP by dropping the invitation template on their talk page with:

. Adding more qualified reviewers will help with keeping the backlog manageable.
New Year New Page Review Drive
- A backlog drive is planned for the start of the year, beginning on January 1st and running until the end of the month. Unique prizes will be given in tiers for both the total number of reviews made, as well as the longest 'streak' maintained.
- Note: quality reviewing is extremely important, please do not sacrifice quality for quantity.
General project update:
- ACTRIAL has resulted in a significant increase in the quality of new submissions, with noticeably fewer CSD, PROD, and BLPPROD candidates in the new page feed. However, the majority of the backlog still dates back to before ACTRIAL started, so consider reviewing articles from the middle or back of the backlog.
- The NPP Browser can help you quickly find articles with topics that you prefer to review from within the backlog.

New Years new page backlog drive
Announcing the NPP New Year Backlog Drive!
We have done amazing work so far in December to reduce the New Pages Feed backlog by over 3000 articles! Now is the time to capitalise on our momentum and help eliminate the backlog!
The backlog drive will begin on January 1st and run until January 29th. Prize tiers and other info can be found HERE.
Awards will be given in tiers in two categories:
- The total number of reviews completed for the month.
- The minimum weekly total maintained for all four weeks of the backlog drive.
NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

And for notability, how are Forbes articles, being a Microsoft Partner of the Year, and being named one of the U.S.'s fastest growing companies NOT notable? This is ridiculous. I'm doing my best to follow the rules and you're making it impossible to contribute to Wikipedia in any way.

New Page Reviewer Newsletter
Backlog update:
- The new page backlog is currently at 3819 unreviewed articles, with a further 6660 unreviewed redirects.
- We are very close to eliminating the backlog completely; please help by reviewing a few extra articles each day!
New Year Backlog Drive results:
- We made massive progress during the recent four weeks of the NPP Backlog Drive, during which the backlog reduced by nearly six thousand articles and the length of the backlog by almost 3 months!
General project update:
- ACTRIAL will end it's initial phase on the 14th of March. Our goal is to reduce the backlog significantly below the 90 day index point by the 14th of March. Please consider helping with this goal by reviewing a few additional pages a day.
- Reviewing redirects is an important and necessary part of New Page Patrol. Please read the guideline on appropriate redirects for advice on reviewing redirects. Inappropriate redirects can be re-targeted or nominated for deletion at RfD.

Feb 12 "disruptive edits"
Hello, I've explained on the discussion page for Feb 12 why I thought those two mentions should be removed. Holidays and Observances is cluttered on just about every day with promoted days. Anyways, didn't mean to be disruptive or engage in a "dispute". --2607:FEA8:D5E0:A24:ED48:C7E0:5F2A:EF7F (talk) 00:52, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
- @2607:FEA8:D5E0:A24:ED48:C7E0:5F2A:EF7F: Hi, thanks for taking the time to write to me. I would like to thank you for your productive attitude, but unfortunately the criterion you specify is not an official guideline, only a proposal. Currently, any organisation that decides to set a day as an official day of observation is more than welcome to, so you can understand that removing content that is referenced and not in dispute would be disruptive. If you would like to propose the deletion of an article, such as National Freedom to Marry Day, you may take it to WP:AfD. Best, Nicnotesay hello!contribs 03:29, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

IP block exempt
I have granted your account an exemption from IP blocking. This will allow you to edit through full blocks affecting your IP address when you are logged in.
Please read the page Wikipedia:IP block exemption carefully, especially the section on IP block exemption conditions.
Appropriate usage and compliance with the policy may be checked (through the use of CheckUser) periodically, due to the nature of block exemption, and block exemption will be removed when no longer needed (for example, when the block it is related to expires).
I hope this will enhance your editing, and allow you to edit successfully and without disruption. - TNT❤ 18:34, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

New Page Review Newsletter No.10
ACTRIAL:
- ACTRIAL's six month experiment restricting new page creation to (auto)confirmed users ended on 14 March. As expected, a greatly increased number of unsuitable articles and candidates for deletion are showing up in the feed again, and the backlog has since increased already by ~30%. Please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day.
Paid editing
- Now that ACTRIAL is inoperative pending discussion, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary.
Subject-specific notability guidelines
- The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
- Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies. A further discussion is currently taking place at: Can a subject specific guideline invalidate the General Notability Guideline?
Nominate competent users for Autopatrolled
- While patrolling articles, if you find an editor that is particularly competent at creating quality new articles, and that user has created more than 25 articles (rather than stubs), consider nominating them for the 'Autopatrolled' user right HERE.
News
- The next issue Wikipedia's newspaper The Signpost has now been published after a long delay. There are some articles in it, including ACTRIAL wrap-up that will be of special interest to New Page Reviewers. Don't hesitate to contribute to the comments sections. The Signpost is one of the best ways to stay up date with news and new developments - please consider subscribing to it. All editors of Wikipedia and associated projects are welcome to submit articles on any topic for consideration by the The Signpost's editorial team for the next issue.
