Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Agastya, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Dvaraka (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Inscriptions

[edit]

Please stop adding information about ancient inscriptions to articles unless they are discussed in a modern reliable source. Merely cataloguing the inscription is insufficient, as is citing something compiled in the British Raj era. - Sitush (talk) 11:39, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have not added the inscription. Tirumagal pola with prasasti is adding inscription. But I have merely mentioned what has been translated and interpreted by hisorians. Moreover, all the Chola articles are riding on Sastri's work which is purely based on inscriptions and is also a colonial era work. This being the case, I do not see any harm in adding the inscriptions. I suggest you stop stalking my edits. Nittavinoda (talk) 11:49, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I am not stalking anyone. That article has been on my watchlist for years and you can see my past involvement with it in the edit history. As for Raj stuff, well, tough: the community's consensus is clear. - Sitush (talk) 12:00, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Not quite. For example, User regentspark has accepted the evidence for article Velir based on inscription [1] if it was being inferred by a historian like Sastri. So stop pushing your opinion. Nittavinoda (talk) 12:19, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
RP is mistaken, and does note that there is some doubt regarding which Sastri is being referred to. The problem is in any event that much interpretation of history has changed since the Raj era and thus we do not use things from the time. This has been discussed time and again at WP:RSN, which has a wider community support than merely the hedged opinion of one person. - Sitush (talk) 12:27, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
As regards to Chola articles, all the references by recent and older authors/hisotrians use information from inscriptions only. If there were no inscriptions then all the stuff regarding his conquests and achievements in the article Rajaraja Chola I must disappear. It is only his inscriptions and those of his peers that allow historians to state and conclude the events and the political scenario during his period Nittavinoda (talk) 12:38, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Irrelevant. Use the modern sources. To be honest, I think the Inscriptions section should be scrapped anyway because it adds nothing but clutter. We could just say "Ancient inscriptions have been identified at temples A, B and C." and cite this. - Sitush (talk) 14:12, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have replied in Rajendra talk page. I have also listed out the reasons for adding the Inscription Section in the first place. I'll go with user opinion and whatever Wiki readers/users/community want. Nittavinoda (talk) 15:01, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, please stop futzing with article italics until you are fully aware of our various guidelines for the use of italics. See MOS:ITALICS. Italics are not decorations. Generally speaking, we use italics for titles of major works like movies, books, albums, television series, etc., so your removal of the italics from here is not constructive. It's also unclear why you italicised Khmer, as this is a regular proper noun, not a title of a major work, or why you italicised Pandiyan, as again, this is a proper noun. Same at Vedi, which is a place. We don't italicise locations. India, for example is not italicised. Thank you. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 22:01, 14 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've reverted about 30 of these for you. Can you please go through the bulk of your recent edits and fix the others? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 00:32, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I was not aware of the guidelines. I'll take care going forward. Thanks Nittavinoda (talk) 00:35, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Generally speaking all community preferences for layout, for everything from dates to currency to use of bold and italic, can be found at our Manual of Style. Other communities have their own manuals of style, like WP:FILM, etc. Can you help go through the remainder of your edits where you may have erroneously made these changes, please? Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 01:33, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I've reverted them, should be okay now. Cheers. Nittavinoda (talk) 02:12, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
