Hello, I'm Peaceray. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that you unlinked one or more redlinks from Underwater habitat. Often redlinks can be helpful, so we don't remove them just because they are red. They help improve Wikipedia by attracting editors to create needed articles.

In addition, clicking on the "What links here" special link (in the Wikipedia Toolbox at left) on a missing article shows how many—and which—articles depend on that article being created. This can help prioritize article creation. Redlinks are useful! Please, only remove a redlink if you are pretty sure that it is to a non-notable topic and not likely ever to be created. Peaceray (talk) 13:49, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Peaceray, thank you for your welcome and guidance with regards to Wikipedia. I am new to this platform so I apologise for my errors and i'll be sure to keep an eye on it for the future! --Pacific Jim (talk) 13:19, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have also noticed the removal of red links with edit notice stating that they were broken. Red links are not broken in the way that external links may be broken, so the edit summary is inappropriate. You may remove a red link when the topic is inappropriate for a Wikipedia article or a reasonable redirect to a glossary, or section of an article when you know enough about the topic to be able to plausibly explain why Wikipedia should not contain an article on that topic. That explanation should be in the edit summary, otherwise you can expect to be reverted or challenged. Cheers, · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 02:48, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Professional diver?

[edit]

Hi Pacific Jim, Your user page suggests you were a professional diver. That is a rare bird on Wikipedia, and your experience and knowledge could be of value to help improve our coverage of underwater diving articles. It can be tricky to get used to how things are done here, and the learning curve can be steep, so I am going to suggest you get in at the shallow end by reading articles in the Underwater diving navbox, and making suggestions for improvements on their talk pages. By all means make direct improvements where you are reasonably confident, but feel free to ask if you are not sure how best to proceed. To get someone's attention, ping them by inserting a link to their user name, or by using one of the templates for this purpose, like {{u|Pbsouthwood}} to notify me. We have a small group project at Wikipedia:WikiProject Underwater diving dedicated to improving the coverage of all aspects of underwater diving which you may be interested in joining, though in practice it makes little difference and you are free to contribute constructively wherever you like. The project talk page is another place for suggestions and discussion. Cheers, · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 03:19, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Don't be offended if people restore the redinks you removed. It is a common beginner's error, easily fixed.
I see from your edit record we have other interests in common. Cheers, · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 03:43, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Peter Southwood, thank you for your comment on my talk page. I am currently trying my best to learn on Wikipedia so your helpful comments have been very useful indeed and i'll take them all on board. I will also be sure to check out your diving group - thanks for suggesting it! --Pacific Jim (talk) 13:26, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

November 2020

[edit]

Hey Pacific Jim, glad to see you help around in providing citations to the page Phillips 66. In one of your recent edits under the "Operations" section where you provided a reference to the statement, "The company is the fourth largest finished lubricants supplier in the United States", do you have anymore reliable sources to back it up with? Thank you. Apollogone (talk) 06:53, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Apollogone, thank you for stopping by on my talk page. I have revisited the Phillips 66 page and spefically the "Operations" section where I have provided two further reliable sources in relation to the statement about "the fourth largest finished lubricants supplier in the US". Please do come back with any further comments if you have them. (Pacific Jim (talk) 13:49, 13 November 2020 (UTC))[reply]
