Naomi Emeka Nwokolo moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Naomi Emeka Nwokolo, is not suitable as written to remain published. It appears there is a WP:UPE or WP:COI conflict. Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, and have addressed the UPE/COI issue, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. As per WP policy, please do not move into mainspace yourself. Onel5969 TT me 11:16, 27 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Parlonany. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Parlonany. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Parlonany|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Fancy Refrigerator (talk) 23:50, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Fancy, Although I have forwarded a response to you on your talk forum, here's a direct response to this in particular since you indicated I should not edit further until I answer this message.
Thanks for your concern to ensuring wikipedia policies are complied with.
Let me affirm that Joseph Olaoye Jaiyeola is a popular Nigerian Economist whose profile is in the Public domain. I maintain no family ties or relationship with him in anyway, and as such I do not enjoy any financial benefit whatsoever from writing this article about him.
In all sincerity I have no stake financially, directly or indirectly on this. He's someone I find deserving due to his contribution to the Nigerian Economy including the annual Nigerian Economic Summit NES that outlines the annual blueprint of what the Nigeria's economic policy and reform should look like.
Once again, Thanks for your concern. Parlonany (talk) 09:24, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely for advertising or promotion and violating the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use. This is because you have been making promotional edits to topics in which you have a financial stake, yet you have failed to adhere to the mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a form of conflict of interest (COI) editing which involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is strictly prohibited. Using this site for advertising or promotion is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia.

If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, please read our guide to appealing blocks to understand more about unblock requests, and then add the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the end of your user talk page. For that request to be considered, you must:

  • Confirm that you have read and understand the Terms of Use and paid editing disclosure requirements.
  • State clearly how you are being compensated for your edits, and describe any affiliation or conflict of interest you might have with the subjects you have written about.
  • Describe how you intend to edit such topics in the future.

Hello, Rosguill. I appreciate your message and want to apologize for my delayed response. I've been dealing with a severe illness. I made some edits out of my own motivation with the hope of seeing Naomi Emeka Nwokolo's acceptance.
I assert that File:Joseph Olaoye Jaiyeola - JOJ.png is my work. I was present at the Nigerian Universities Commission NUC University Licensing event in Abuja on June 9th 2023, where I took his portrait with my Phone and edited the background. It was that opportunity I had to decide to write on his Impact as a Nigerian Economist.
On File:Naomi Nwokolo.png, I was invited by the communications manager of UNGC during an Open House event for the Private sector in May 2022. I requested to capture this picture during the break out session.
In all honesty, I was not paid to write or edit for these individuals. I enjoy no close relationship with them in anyway. My write up were not in anyway motivated by a Financial Reward hence, these edits are not paid editing. I do not have any Financial stake whatsoever which is why I am appealing for the blocking. For me, this looks quite unfair. However I understand Wikipedia's Policies must be strictly complied with. I appreciate your role as an editor as well.
Please Kindly reconsider unblocking.

I want to be sure of the reason when I engage another administrator. Parlonany (talk) 07:03, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think that your editing to date fits the patterns that we see from paid editors to a tee, and I don't think the explanation you have given about how/why you ended up taking photos of the subjects of the articles is plausible given the circumstances. signed, Rosguill talk 15:34, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Rosguill, I'm grateful for your response. Please think about giving me the benefit of the doubt; I'd really appreciate that. My editing style may mirror that of paid editors, but that does not imply that I was paid for my work. Even though I was approached with a proposal to get compensated for my work on one piece, I haven't yet accepted it. I'll be sure to tell you when I do. However, I can guarantee you that I wasn't compensated for the two questioned pieces.
I'll follow your advice and ask other admins to unblock me as well.
Best wishes. Parlonany (talk) 06:32, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Unpaid Editing and non violation.

Dear @AmandaNP I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to request an appeal of the recent block placed on my Wikipedia account. My intention is to address the concerns related to the alleged undisclosed-paid editing and clarify other situations. I understand that Wikipedia takes its guidelines and policies strictly.

I received Inquiries related to submission of images that imply connections to topics I have written on from @Roseguill on 9th October and I was blocked on 10th October. I responded on 11th providing explanations regarding the source of the images I used in my contributions and have been completely transparent in responding to any inquiries related to these matters. My primary goal on Wikipedia has always been to contribute valuable and reliable information to the community, and I remain committed to doing so in accordance with Wikipedia's guidelines and best practices.

Although I perceive the block as too quick, I apologize for not responding promptly while making edits, however this action wasn't to ignore or snub. I got the inquiry under a review made in June and couldn't place much significance because I was wondering why this is coming at that period while also not in the right frame of mind due to illness at that time.

Even though @Roseguill insisted my editing patterns fits that of paid editors, I am left unsure of how best to emphasize that I was not paid for my contributions to Wikipedia. I take the Wikipedia community guidelines and the Wikimedia Foundation Terms of Use very seriously. I understand the importance of transparency when it comes to disclosing any potential conflicts of interest, and I assure you that I have not knowingly or intentionally violated this principle.

Laoye Jaiyeola is a renowned Nigerian Economist and Naomi Nwokolo is a UN Sustainability Development Expert. I have met them personally but I was never told or paid to create articles or make edits on their behalf. My affiliation with them is of a far distance. Infact I have been approached for the first time for a paid article of which I am yet to accept. I am aware I must disclose COI/paid editing in accordance to Wikipedia's policy before embarking on it which I shall when I accept the offer. However, If my actions led to any misunderstanding, I apologize for any confusion they may have caused.

On Misleading edit summaries in relation to COI templates, I genuinely affirm that my edits do not attract a financial reward the reason I do not disclose and have my edits summarized in purely unpaid manner. However, I shall ensure to disclose any paid edits in the future as mandated by Wikipedia policies.

I am more than willing to cooperate with you and provide any additional information or clarification needed to address your concerns and resolve this situation amicably and kindly request that you reconsider the block on my account and grant me an opportunity to continue contributing to Wikipedia. I am open to any constructive feedback you may have and will take it into account to ensure that my contributions align with Wikipedia's guidelines. I value Wikipedia and its mission to provide free, reliable, and unbiased knowledge to the world, and I am fully committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and transparency within the community.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I am looking forward to your response and hope to resolve this matter to the satisfaction of both parties.

Sincerely, parlonany Parlonany (talk) 09:26, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

I concur with Rosguill; I don't buy your explanation. Even if I did, you admit to having a conflict of interest with these people- and you clearly didn't pick them at random to edit about or just seek them out for a picture. Ms. Nwokolo clearly posed for you, sitting in a chair it appears to me. Looking online it appears other images of her have the same white background. I don't see any pathway forward here unless you agree to not edit about living people and tell us what you will edit instead- and even then it's not a guarantee. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 09:47, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

You literally have the wrong admin for this. I don't deal with paid editing in any way. Blocking or unblocking. If you want, I can wrap your message in the standard unblock template for an admin to review. -- Amanda (she/her) 20:03, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would appreciate that. Regards. Parlonany (talk) 05:49, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What is your association with Naomi Emeka Nwokolo and Joseph Olaoye Jaiyeola? 331dot (talk) 08:22, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your prompt response. I appreciate your attention to this matter.
I have known Laoye Jaiyeola as a prominent Nigerian economist and the CEO of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, NESG since his appointment in 2014. The NESG is the host Organization of UNGC Network Nigeria where Naomi Emeka Nwokolo is the Executive Director. Laoye doubles as the organization's co-chair as well. My association with them began through a friend who is the Communications Manager of UNGCNN. I was engaged for the rapporteuring of the UNGCNN Open House Event on Climate Ambition and other Accelerator Programs in June 2022. That was where I got the opportunity to interface with Laoye Jaiyeola physically. Beyond rapporteuring engagements for UNGCNN programs, I have enjoyed a fairly distant association with Naomi. Let me sincerely emphasize in addition that my contribution to Wikipedia is not motivated by any financial agreement from either of them. My writing on Laoye Jaiyeola is based on publicly available information and reliable sources. Whilst for Naomi, I have got a level of support as regards information from the Communications Manager to write on. However, I have not received any compensation for my edits and do not have any agreements for compensation. Apologies for the long text, I needed to give a bit of background Information. Regards. Parlonany (talk) 09:25, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @331dot Thank you for your time and your prompt response. I have noted your remark however, How do you advice I continue as I would love to keep contributing to Wikipedia although I still maintain that I wasn't paid to make edits, I can't claim that I was compensated because I genuinely wasn't. Could you please assist me on a wayforward to seeing me unblocked? Kind regards. Parlonany (talk) 11:54, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I gave you the most likely way forward above, "I don't see any pathway forward here unless you agree to not edit about living people and tell us what you will edit instead- and even then it's not a guarantee.". You may make a new unblock request for someone else to review where you either agree to that, or attempt to convince a new administrator to unblock you without such a condition. 331dot (talk) 11:57, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
