Feel free to PROD or AFD, but I'll not speedy it, unless of course you find a source page. I agree that it's likely to be a copy, but it's not now the unambiguous copyvio that G12 requires. Nyttend (talk) 19:16, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Eric Schlager Page Deletion

Dear Sir/Madam: I very much appreciate your diligence in protecting the Wikipedia community from copyright violations, vandalism, and other licentious acts. It is comforting to know that individuals like yourself seek to promote the highest standards of integrity and morality.

As a relatively new member to our community, I would respectfully request your assistance in helping me to publish this article on Eric Schlager in a format that would be acceptable to you and in accordance with Wikipedia's legally enforceable doctrines. I would very much appreciate you sending me the information for the deleted page so that I may revise such data to be in accordance with stated policy and procedure.

To address some of your stated concerns: (i) Nearly all of the published article was fact-based and included no opinions. While you note that certain material was cited to the Urban Land Institute website, in fact, if you closely analyze the citations, you will see that most of this information was previously published as generally available biographical data on the Bulfinch Companies website. (ii) Mr. Eric Schlager meets the generally accepted qualifications of being a notable entity as a result of the size of his company, civic leadership positions, mentions in national publications, etc...

I am willing to work with you to ensure the completeness and professionalism of this encyclopedic entry. In the future, I will run all pages by you before publication so that we may be able to avoid any unnecessary hindrances to future publication.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Very Kind Regards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by EDS250 (talkcontribs) 14:19, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

The text is available at http://boston.uli.org/event/uli-boston-september-member-lunch-eric-schlager-ceo-the-bulfinch-companies/?doing_wp_cron=1343936078 from whence it seems to have been mainly copied. This is the prime reason for the deletion. Wikipedia cannot accept text that is already published (unless it is in the public domain because of its age, or is licensed for free redistribution under Creative Commons CC-BY-SA 3.0 licence. Wikipedia is itself licensed for free distribution, and we cannot have text that is not available for free distribution. Text that is very close to copyright material is also unacceptable. Copyright matters and potentially libellous material are our two biggest worries, as if they are not removed quickly legal action could be taken against us. I've not looked through the references, as until there is original text to be considered, referencing is of no account. As the article was also tagged for (but not deleted because of) concerns about notability and promotion, I would recommend reading WP:BIO if doing an freshly written article about Mr Schlager, or WP:CORP if the focus is the company. Sometimes a non-notable individual may head a notable company, and vice versa. Notability is by our definition as detailed in the policies. In either case, referencing must be in accordance with WP:RS (reliable independent sources, which do not include blogs, forums, wikis, Facebook etc, company or personal sites and they must also not be profiles, LinkedIn etc and must be in reasonable depth - not just a passing mention. If you feel you want to try again, do it at User:EDS250/DRAFT and then ask for advice. I would recommend reading WP:NPOV (neutral point of view) as well. Peridon (talk) 16:47, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

Recreated his page you deleted earlier. Name suggests an autobiography, sources given so far (Facebook) are unreliable. Please re-delete and I'll keep a watch for a while for re-creation. Thank you. Regards, --Manway 22:55, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

The ref I saw was to a book by someone published when this chap would have been 16. Probably a good book, but I can't see this subject being in it. Done and salted, anyway. I've left a note on the author's page. Seems to have used three accounts, but I won't bother with an SPI unless he tries again. Added a note to the current one. Thanks for letting me know. Marian Richero repetition

Prior to today's latest variant version on the name, there have been repeated spates of attempts to hide the conclusion of the previous AfD. Before the most recent ones stopped, I'd been heading towards requesting Admin intervention to protect the page. (Which, this case aside, begs a question: shouldn't concluded AfD pages be locked down anyway? I can't think of a reason why they should remain available for editing.) AllyD (talk) 18:34, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for that. I've indef protected it. If anyone wants to edit it, they'll have to be an admin or very persuasive. They aren't usually locked because nothing much happens - or once only at least. I hadn't noticed the capitalised version - the lower case without dj was deleted five times. Keep on the look out - they'll probably try another version. There's several usernames involved - probably not worth an SPI as I feel they'll be unlinkable somehow... You did the right thing letting someone know about the AfD page - I don't know why it wasn't dealt with before. Peridon (talk) 20:06, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

Jan Hofmeyer Community Services - page deleted

Hi Peridon, I took a 2nd attempt at editing the Jan Hofmeyer Community Services page. This time round I hardly added any details though. Please can you have a look and let me know if this qualifies to stay. If not, my alternative is to try and edit one of the pages for either "Pageview, Gauteng" or "Vrededorp, Gauteng" or "Jan Hofmeyer, Gauteng" and add extra historical data to these "suburb of Johannesburg" pages. The work I am attempting to do is part of an MBA assignment I need to do.

I am a new user and the article I added yesterday was my 1st attempt at WIKI. If I can continue with that article then I'd appreciate if you can guide me not to make the same mistakes I did in the 1st one. thanks Michelle Michelle19660620 (talk) 20:54, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

OK. This time, do it my way. Please? DON'T start it in article space (where you put it). Work in user space (where I moved your first one to). User:Michelle19660620/Jan Hofmeyer Community Services Third Go is a spare unused one. Just click it if you don't want to rework your first try (which is where I said I'd put it). Userspace gives you more freedom from things like 'no context', 'no notability', 'no references' and so on. Look for references that discuss the actual subject first. You can work the article around the refs then. If you decide to add historical stuff to existing articles, you will need to find some refs for what you add - and read the talk pages first to make sure that what you want to add hasn't already been tried and rejected. How long have you got in which to do this work? Basically, you must avoid the taint of being thought to be working for the subject. Third person rules OK. I don't, you shouldn't, we mustn't. He/she/it and they RULE. Imagine you're working for a court, and the Judge says 'What is this thing called Jan Hofmeyer Community Services? I need a report on it.' and you're the poor little beggar that the task of answering falls on. You have to be neutral - neither pro not anti. The Judge will reject stuff that's not balanced, as HE has to be impartial. And the Judge will want to know where the info comes from, as hearsay evidence isn't allowed, nor is evidence from the subject itself or stuff from unreliable sources like blogs, graffiti or leaflets through the door. Getting the picture? Get the refs, be neutral. Show some sort of importance - this will come in the refs usually. Concentrate on the subject - mention Fietas but leave them for another article. If you want that second go restoring, I can dig it up and replant it in your userspace. Sorry if this is a bit wandering - just winding down after a very heavy day. Trans-Siberian Orchestra on the CD player and a glass of cider. Starting to revive... Peridon (talk) 20:16, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi Peridon, I'm beginning to understand better what is acceptable and what not. I am also now reconsidering the topic as I think it will be much easier to learn by writing a factual article about Vrededorp, Gauteng. This suburb has as rich history in South Africa and I will be able to find good historical references for it. Now my 1st thought was how to get a copy of the stub into the userspace so that I can work from there. Is this the same place as my sandbox? I have to deliver this article on the 27th of August so it does not leave me with too much time but I think it will be enough. Will you still help me if I change topics though? Michelle Michelle19660620 (talk) 20:13, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

To create a userspace page, just type User:Michelle19660620/mychoiceoftitle anywhere you can, with your choice in, of course, then go to Preview (not save) and click it in the preview window. Then close whatever window you were typing it into. This creates the new userpage. Or use the existing one, or click the other one in red above. The title can always be changed when it gets moved into article space. Follow the principle I've given you - find refs first and write around them - then add the other bits. Not everything has to be referenced. Just show that the subject itself is the subject of sufficient coverage, and reference anything that might be controversial or otherwise doubted. Any claims of treacle mines, triffid plantations, or alien colonies MUST be very well referenced. Other things according to the level of doubt that might be caused. You would only need to reference the presence of a bus station if you are writing about an island with a population of 50, for example. Do talk to the other people I mentioned. All helpful, and the first two possibly more accessible than me at times. Different viewpoints are useful. Say I sent you - they won't be annoyed at you, but might get out my voodoo doll later... Yopienso wouldn't do that for certain and I don't think the other two would really... Peridon (talk) 20:33, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Where did my article go?

Where did my article go, I spent a long time writing that, can you please return it or at least restore me a copy of it, thank you. Larry Oswalde (talk) 21:50, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Not until you can show that a 98 year old is still enjoying flying a plane, and that he is a well known scientist when he only comes up with two Google hits - both connected to this article. Also, please show that the book "A Life in Plasma" exists. If you are the subject, you are not recommended to be writing about yourself - and if you are impersonating a 'famous person', you might get well blocked from editing. Peridon (talk) 21:58, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
Part of it can be seen, of course, at Granville Beynon. Unless that place and year of birth (and that you misspelt checkweightman in a similar fashion to that found there) is a remarkable coincidence. Peridon (talk) 22:12, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
Listen, pal, you give me your address and I'll fly over your house in my plane and 'buzz' you all you like. I'll also send you a copy of my book - we printed about 5,000 copies when we did it, and I've still got a few in the garage. I would like my article back please. Granville and me are twins - we've got the same parents. And that's how you spell chechweightman in Cardiff. I'd ask you to respect your elders and stop messing with an old man, especially one who can fly a plane. Larry Oswalde (talk) 22:41, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Cornelia Guest

Why did you delete the article on Cornelia Guest. I wanted to read it, but you deleted it! She's an important figure with tons of mainstream media. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.41.247.217 (talk) 01:11, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

In case you hadn't noticed, I deleted it over a year ago. You may well know more about her than the articles showed. All it showed was that she presumably came from a background with money, as she wouldn't have been a debutante otherwise, and that she'd written a book, had dated a movie actor, and rode horses. None of these are necessarily notable without more detail and with reliable independent sources to back up any claim to notability. There's nothing to stop anyone making a new article about her if they can show that she is in fact of note for an encyclopaedia article. Remember that this is an encyclopaedia, not a profile host like LinkedIn. Attention should be paid to WP:BIO and to WP:RS about the sources. The NYT article in a link wasn't bad as sources go - but to me it seemed rather to say that life hadn't been what had been hoped for and made me feel sorry for her.
