Problems with upload of File:George lamming.jpeg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:George lamming.jpeg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Change in your user rights[edit]

Your Wikipedia account was previously granted a user right called "course instructor" by the Wiki Education Foundation. That right enabled you to create a course page through the EducationProgram MediaWiki extension. Starting in fall 2015, the Wiki Education Foundation has discontinued its use of this extension. Going forward, users should create course pages through the Wiki Education Foundation website. That application is more user-friendly, and any content is automatically mirrored to Wikipedia. To prevent confusion, we'll be removing your "course instructor" user right, as it is not needed with the new system. This is simply a notification of the technical change to your account. No action is needed from you at this time.

Sorry to complain, but this editor has been deleting large chunks of Santorini without explanation (he did say he was moving some material, but didn't do that), and added some copyvio, which I know is covered in your syllabus. It would be a shame to have a student blocked (not by me but someone else might if this continues), especially one who is obviously enthusiastic. I need to bring to your attention the actions of this editor, before they get themselves into further difficulty. Multiple edits on Association of American Medical Colleges have included clear copyright infringements. This behaviour is persisting despite earlier advice being left on both their user talk page and on the talk page of the article that they have been assigned to edit. ProfTAH, I'm going to add to this: dealing with copyright violations is time-consuming work that gets done by volunteer editors, most of whom would probably much rather be creating content about topics that interest them. In this case Drchriswilliams has been put to considerable trouble to fix the problems created by your student. I suggest that as a course instructor you have a substantial responsibility to ensure that your students learn not to violate copyrights (or indeed damage Wikipedia in other ways either), and that they should not be allowed to start the editing part of their assignment until that message has been fully absorbed. Opinions are already very mixed on whether there is any advantage to Wikipedia in allowing projects of this sort; I do recommend not giving extra ammunition to the opponents. Pinterest[edit]

Teaching your students to edit war is not the way to go. Take it to the article talk page and get consensus. Use WP:DR if needed. But no one has attempted to discuss. Student choice of Cho Doo-soon Case[edit]

I just noticed one of your students chose this article for Wikipedia:Wiki Ed/College of DuPage/Research, Writing, and the Production of Knowledge (Fall 2020). That's nice, and I wanted to note that two of my students are working on this already this semester (my course). Your student did a good job, through it's a shame we missed the opportunity to collaborate. It's nobody's fault, but I think my students who started a bit later were surprised that suddenly this article has been expanded before they started. Ping: User:Ian (Wiki Ed) - it would be nice if there was an automatic way of marking articles being accepted for student projects, I had my students add it to their article list on the dashboard, but it didn't update the article's talk page (which I have to do manually and haven't gotten around to it yet...). Thanks for the heads up on this. Assuming this is in regards to edits I made to the College of DuPage article this week? I would normally stay away from this article, but was showing my students how to edit, format, and cite content in a class meeting. Yep. Most editors are okay with COI editors making simple, uncontroversial edits to articles about subjects with whom they have a conflict of interest e.g., update existing information, correct obvious mistakes, improve grammar. But other edits should be requested or suggested in Talk for another editor to make (or not).
