Wachowski Move
For some reason the talk page is still at The Wachowskis instead of the new page that you moved the main article to. Konman72 18:05, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for that - I've fixed it now. There seem to be a number of issues with the moving of talk pages, as it looked liked it had moved correctly at the time. Regards, ProhibitOnions (T) 18:37, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:WeltallErdeMensch.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:WeltallErdeMensch.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 19:32, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Angr, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I think I lamely used "fair use" as a stopgap because I wanted to look up the copyright status of a photograph of the front cover of a book published by a defunct state -- and then was distracted and forgot about it. I'll take a look. ProhibitOnions (T) 20:27, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- I think it probably really is still protected by copyright. It's fairly well established on Commons that images from the Third Reich government are not PD, and I can't think of a reason why those from the DDR government would be. Although I only tagged it as lacking a rationale, I do think it fails WP:NFCC#8; an image of this book cover does not significantly increase readers' understanding of Jugendweihe. —Angr 21:00, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- It's under copyright, all right, but I was thinking more along the lines that it is a three-dimensional image of a book, rather than just the cover image (this is only due to it not fitting on my scanner). I suppose I could write an article about the book itself, though I'd think that since the book was so ubiquitous and iconic it might justify its use in the Jugendweihe article. Or it might not. As I said, I don't think it meets WP:NFCC#8 and have tagged it as such. Your official notice:
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:WeltallErdeMensch.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:WeltallErdeMensch.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 21:45, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use Image:Warsmap.jpeg
Thanks for uploading Image:Warsmap.jpeg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 11:24, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Hi
Hi ProhibitOnion, can you please look at User:3meandEr conduct on the TRNC article. The article has become extremely unstable recently following his constant tagging, reverting and aggressive pov. He completely disregards previous consensus such as those on the intro and is turning the article into something very ugly. I'd appreciate your help. --A.Garnet 10:56, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
- Sure thing, and I fully agree with your assessment. However, I have contributed to the article as well, so you might want to ask an uninvolved admin, or we could post this to WP:AN. Regards. ProhibitOnions (T) 12:16, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Redirect of List of rock operas (albums)
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on List of rock operas (albums), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because List of rock operas (albums) is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting List of rock operas (albums), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Duplicate images uploaded
Thanks for uploading Image:Japanese GeneralGovernmentBuildingFront.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:243074675 8afb79a7ab b.jpg. The copy called Image:243074675 8afb79a7ab b.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.
This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 10:29, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Sting
I must take exception to your statement of "Yeah, that's about what I figured, a bit of bogus showmanship on the part of an obscure pro wrestler."
In case you have forgotten, this was on the discussion page for "Sting". There was a discussion about a professional wrestler's registered trademark for the name, and when somebody commented that there was no registered trademark, you immediately assumed this was the truth and posted the comment above.
In fact, the wrestler has legally registered the trademark - whatever user "Dhartung" says. It has the serial number 74629288 and it was filed in January 1995. (You can look it up if you wish.) Furthermore, Sting is far from "some obscure wrestler". He's had a thirty year career and is one of the most famous members of the industry. This is like calling George Harrison "some obscure musician". What frustrates me is that if the topic were about something other than professional wrestling: say, music; you would not just assume some random user has his or her facts straight and assume "some obscure" musican was exhibiting "bogus showmanship". You would stick to what you know and not chime in with ignorant comments. I do not like how easily you slip into bias simply because the subject matter is outside your interest. Even if you think professional wrestling is not a worthy profession or you have something against professional wrestlers, here at wikipedia we should treat everything with respect, without bias, and not jump to conclusions and "assume" anything because someone else says it is so. 69.215.150.227 23:59, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
- No, it's because a pro wrestler is obscure compared to Sting the musician. And a possibly registered trademark doesn't make any difference as to who is more notable. That's all. ProhibitOnions (T) 07:54, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
Hi There. I noticed Zapmail on your to-do list. I have just uploaded a short artice. Please have a look for review. Thanks Nelson50 (talk) 14:02, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
- Brilliant! Thanks for rescuing this from obscurity... I was surprised it wasn't mentioned at all on Wikipedia. Your article is much bigger and better than the stub I would have probably ended up writing! I'm sure there was a Zapmail logo, perhaps we can find it and add this, too? Orphaned non-free media (Image:DivisionBellMC.JPG)
Thanks for uploading Image:DivisionBellMC.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Germany
Regarding your change and comment here: Easy, yes, but already rejected once per this diff, which is why I didn't change it back to "comprises" in the first place. We'll have to see if your "easy" change is left alone, or is merely another edit in a strange semantic battle. Up to this point, the semantic changes appear to have been in good faith, but perhaps I am wrong on that, and someone is just playing a game. - BillCJ (talk) 18:41, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yep, didn't mean to sound snotty -- I shoulda looked at the edit history. I'd guess it's a German with poor English who wishes to assert that the BRD now contains Germany in its entirety, as per the preamble of the Grundgesetz, but that isn't the place to explain this (if that is indeed what was meant -- I'd agree that game-playing is a strong possibility). I didn't notice that they'd already done this once before. Regards, ProhibitOnions (T) 21:57, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:HalbeTreppeDVDCover.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:HalbeTreppeDVDCover.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

- Hmm, I just meant to remove the bullet points at the end of lines, which were nonstandard (I also added a br to the lines that didn't have one; it was inconsistent). I'm in direct contact with both her and her father, have an extensive archive of documents and other items relating to her life and career, and can usually verify any disputed content very quickly. (If you'd like to verify my credentials, feel free to e-mail me at the address given on the website...) Gidz (talk) 12:54, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for writing. Please see WP:V regarding sourcing; if you have material that has been published in reliable periodicals, this is acceptable as a Wikipedia source. I'm not sure which "factual material" you are referring to that I changed; I removed some slight gushing to conform with WP:NPOV and corrected the release date of Freedom at Point Zero from 1980 to 1979. You seem to object to the statement that "Wing is Slick's maiden name" although to spend three paragraphs explaining China's first name and omit any explanation of the middle one seems a little odd, especially as it is a common noun, and for that matter, that she also referred to herself as "Chin a Slick Kantner" while on MTV. beatrice arthur
hello. unless you can come up with better phraseology, and solid supporting references, the statement: usually known as.. is incorrect, and should be removed. i thought i left a comment, but it looks like something happened. sorry. cheers! --emerson7 03:15, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, if you can phrase it better, be bold! However, it's a fact that Beatrice Arthur is also, and probably more commonly, known as "Bea". A lot of actors, as their career progresses, find themselves preferring the long (and more serious-sounding) version of their name (see, for example, Jim Belushi) but the fact remains that they are also widely known by the short form, so it needs to be mentioned (not least due to WP:COMMON). US Airways
We have multiple sources which call US Airways a low-cost carrier. You need to cite more than "WP:SYNTH" as a justification for removing it. Even the Bureau of Transportation Statistics considers US to be an LCC. "America West Airlines and US Airways now operate under a single certificate. Joint reporting began with October 2007 data. The combined airline’s employment numbers are included with the low-cost carriers while US Airways’ previous numbers remain with network carriers and America West’s previous numbers are listed separately as a low-cost carrier." Image:DeutscheTelekomCNetzLogo.jpg
I have tagged Image:DeutscheTelekomCNetzLogo.jpg as a disputed use of non-free media, because there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please clarify your fair use rationale on the image description page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 09:16, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Madonna Louise Ciccone Ritchie
Guy was asked about her birth name in that interview. But Madonna truly added Ritchie to her name.
That's Mrs. Material Girl to you: Madonna has officially changed the name on her American Express card to Mrs. Madonna Louise Ciccone Ritchie. "I think she likes being called Mrs. Ritchie," Madonna spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg tells the New York Daily News. So remember that next time you see her.

Jason Engel from AbsoluteMadonna.com confirmed it to me years ago. He told Madonna Louise Ciccone Ritchie is her legal name. Israell (talk) 17:58, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
- OK, no problem, then. This came up a while ago and it was inconclusive (she donated money as "M. Ritchie", etc.), and one person kept adding the name Ritchie, the justification being little more than because she was married and that was her husband's surname. (I realize, of course, that many women do legally change this on marriage, even if they do not use it publicly, but since this is not universal or required, and there are other options, it cannot be assumed.) However, looks like you've got a reliable source there that explains this, so if you haven't added a link already, you might want to do so. Regards, ProhibitOnions (T) 18:52, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
Re.Japan
Hi there! Thanks for the compliment, I'm glad someone noticed and appreciated my little freshening-up of the Japan discography - so thank you. Looked like nobody had paid that much attention to it before so I thought I'd have a stab at it. But do I know my Japan... Well yes and no, I was a die-hard fan for about two or three years in my youth (and that's eons ago) and I sort of lost interest in Sylvian's solo works after a year of two. Too complicated for this very uncomplicated guy. :-) About those compilations you suggested, if I'm not wrong Souvenir from Japan was one of the many BMG-Ariola collections released worldwide, at least in Europe and Japan if it's the one I'm thinking of and do we really need to promote their Japan products on Wikipedia...? ;-) Is this the one [2]? (Speaking of horrid remixes, yours truly had a 12" of "Life In Tokyo" with a B-side that played the master tape of some dub version at half-speed.... Did that stop them from releasing it...? No. Did that stop me from buying it...? No comment.) So BMG-Ariola compilations released without the band's knowledge or approval....? I think I'll give those a miss. Unless you insist of course. That US edition of Tin Drum sounds very interesting however. Certainly a notable release if it was an official Virgin/EMI album just issued in the US, we could add a section on the Tin Drum page like release history/alternate editions or something like that. I'll look into it and see if I can locate a cover pic somewhere on the net as well.
Cheers

PS. Found one on Epic - was that the one you had? [3]? Dreamer.se (talk) 06:08, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, that's the one. I think only 1500 copies were made, and mine has got to be worth something... As far as Souvenir goes, you're right. I'll delete it. I think the "numerous repackages" referred to on the Assemblage page should take care of it... Regards, ProhibitOnions (T) 08:01, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Hi again. 1500 copies? If that's the case I'd a) hold on to it for dear life b) have it valued. Could be interesting to know what serious Japan collectors know about this release. 1500 copies made to promote a band in the United States sounds more like a promo to me - and a strictly limited edition promo at that. If I create the page (under the headline Compilations) with all the technical details etc. can you write the bio? Dreamer.se (talk) 10:40, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
So.... a fellow Scandinavian gave you a hard time over that chronology eh...? I've arranged the studio albums and the compilations separately now, plus references to Rain Tree Crow, we'll see if he objects to that too.... :-) Drop me a line if you find out anything more about that vinyl rarity of yours.
Thanks for good teamwork.
/S Dreamer.se (talk) 17:55, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- Well, he was right, I suppose. Perhaps Japan (album) belongs in the chronology, as it's a variant release for another market, rather than a true compilation. (Compare High Voltage (1976 album).) Regards, ProhibitOnions (T) 19:27, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Absolutely right. It should go between Tin Drum and Oil on Canvas. As you say it's not a compilation as such, but a studio album for the US market and thus should belong to their official discography - unless it really was a promo album that is. Sure about 1500 copies? On Rateyourmusic.com they have it listed as a compilation - but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's right. [4] You decide. Dreamer.se (talk) 20:23, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
More info: [5].
Dreamer.se (talk) 20:35, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yep, it is a compilation inasmuch as the tracks on it were previously on GTP and TD. However, it's a compilation in the sense that the early U.S. albums by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones were (and these are listed in the chronologies of these bands): It's not a "best of" because no other albums by Japan were available in the States. It did not contain "previously released material" -- at least, not as far as the U.S. was concerned. So perhaps it deserves to be an exception. Or not, I don't mind (we could just link to it from the Tin Drum page and leave it at that. Or we could follow the Beatles example and have a "Japan U.S. chronology" consisting of Obscure Alternatives and this... ProhibitOnions (T) 21:53, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Now there's an idea. :-) Terribly short chronology of just two albums though, don't you think? Here's my way of thinking; Wikipedia is an American site after all, and since it falls into the category of US studio albums (just like in the case of the Stones or the Beatles as you say) it really should go after Tin Drum. Good. Now that's all sorted. So can I go to bed now....? :-) PS. Forgot to sign that last post.Dreamer.se (talk) 09:26, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
DS. Question/suggestion: if you're up to creating a Japan UK/US singles discography some time in the future (see page "Ghosts") just say the word.
All the best,
/S

- Why don't you read WP:NPA and WP:AGF. After that, take a look at the preferred spelling of the words you cite in the Oxford English Dictionary. ProhibitOnions (T) 18:20, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:AnEveningWithFredAstaireTitle.jpg

US Airways / America West - Merger vs Acquisition (Round 2)
Greetings. A long time ago, you were involved in this brief discussion regarding who acquired whom in the US Airways / America West merger. The question has been raised again here. Specifically, was there any particular source used to support the "America West acquired America West" view that prevailed after the last discussion? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. -- Tcncv (talk) 03:18, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
BASE
Further to your question, yes, I'm fully up on policy. The MOS is not policy. It's a guideline. This isn't a trademark issue either - the actual legal name of BASE NV/SA is in capitals. It's on the Handelsregister in Brussels in capitals. So it has nothing to do with trademarks, and everything to do with Base in lowercase being just plain wrong. Rather than editwarring with me over this, please would you use Requested Moves or start a talk page debate about the name - since you don't have policy on your side and the name is disputed, it's best if you'd discuss the change first. Thanks. ➨ ЯEDVEЯS used to be a sweet boy 07:53, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, Wikipedia:Naming conventions is policy, and makes it clear:
- Use standard English for titles even if trademarks encourage otherwise: Follow standard English text formatting for article names that are trademarks. Items in full or partial uppercase (such as Invader ZIM) should have standard capitalisation (Invader Zim).
- MOS:TM and WP:CAPS, which are lined to from that page, elaborate on this, but the principle is exactly the same. See also Wikipedia:Official names.
- We've been through this many times, such as with Mini (BMW), and Base (mobile telephony provider) is no exception. I don't need to request a move when a title is non-compliant; there's plenty of precedent to do this. "Base" is not an acronym, but an English word that is pronounced as written, and is usually written as a standard word by newspapers where the brand is used (such as where I live).
- Capitalization plays no part at all in the "legality" of a tradename, no matter what a company prefers. It doesn't matter how they wrote it in the Handelsregister; the registration applies to any cap variant, whether BASE, base BaSe, etc. You may notice that there were no other capitalization variants in the listing. If caps had any legal meaning, anyone would be perfectly free to start a different phone company called "Base". But they don't, and nor do boldface, italics, or any other stylistic concerns. We don't indulge writing company names in boldface; this is not a fansite, and we don't give anyone undue emphasis. ProhibitOnions (T) 08:42, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Puhdys_2004.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Puhdys_2004.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 19:54, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
